Someone else feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think an MMO like this exists. All of the MMOs I have played involve having to get some type of item from monsters in order to craft items. There are plenty of single player games that offer this though.
Even though this is a two/three year old thread it discusses which game had the best crafting system in an MMO. Which MMORPG has the best crafting system? There is also this thread on another forum that is a year old which discusses the same thing. Best Crafting MMO?

just sad news, guess Im have become to old to really enjoy killing mobs after mobs.
but thanks for the links, but as you said, they are real old
Hey there,
If you enjoying building and manufacturing, have you considered EVE online?
The ability to build ships, equipment and weapons ammo is so in depth, and is one the best around, bar-none. If building is your thing, then give that a go. I'll even put in a good word for you in my corporation if you enjoy the game.
Vanguard might appeal to you then. I only played it on release, but I crafted levels 1-32 while I was only adventuring level 10. There might be some things that require adventuring level, but I am not positive. Their crafting system uses Work Orders to give you crafting materials that can only be used to craft these no-drop items which you return to the work order guy and receive money and crafting items for.
But the best part is you never have to actually leave and go fight or gather resources in order to progress as a crafter. Of course if you wish to create items and sell them to the general public then some natural resources are necessary, but you could just buy them off the AH if you were interested.
Two more games that are open enough so you can craft without killing anything would be UO and EVE Online. In UO you choose the skills you want, so you can pick mining and blacksmithing and just keep at that and not ever worry about having to fight, as running is always an option. In EVE Online you could specialize in trading or crafting, although it takes a long time to get that far, you can usually make money by mining for ore, or running courrier missions where you don't have to kill anyone.
So... there are options out there, just not ENTIRE games based around crafting, just games that let you choose.

Well, there is one alternative. There is a game called Wurm Online. It is essentially just a world that you make stuff. You might like that. Its a game of complete crafting. The only combat at all is the minor chance you run into a bear while chopping wood for the house you are trying to build.
Vanguard and Star Wars Galaxies. SWG actually has crafting only professions. Star Wars Galaxies is the most extensive and advanced from the two imo. Player run cities/houses, factories, harvesting structures (all need to be crafted too) and player vendors (NPC's) makes it unparallelled. There are players that only have crafting professions in SWG. Bio Engineering in SWG can be a lot of fun too.
Just make sure you find an active server with a nice guild that has an active city and you are set.
Vanguard also has a great crafting system and you can be crafter first, adventurer second. But it cant be compared in terms of crafting features with SWG. It has the better combat system though.
Both games actually feel like a virtual world partly because of this. Unlike the MMO's like WoW,LOTRO,EQ2 where its more like you entered a themepark. Which can be a lot of fun too of course, but is just different.
Wurm online seems perfect for you if you can put the graphics aside
thanks alot for all answers, I will take a look at those you mentioned.
Thanks
Wurm online has a lot of direct crafting and building (houses, towns etc.)
If you didn't mind the graphics in ATitD, you'll probably survive those of wurm. Sadly, wurm is very repetitive and grindy, but you won't be forced to bash mobs..
Eve has a lot of crafting, but judging from your past experience, i doubt you'll like it. It's not really crafting, it's production, in a much larger scale. You don't get that attached to the materials and end products, as you usually just play a numbers game.
Or trye Second Life, if you are old enough. No need to collect resources and all that. You just use the built in 3D architect system they have, and you can make anything from weapons, to armor, to cars, houses, animals, or whatever.
It's a lot of fun, more rewarding, AND you can make a little extra REAL cash off it.
I take it you dont mean level building like In Halo 3 forge. Yes Ryzom has a good crafting system. WoW's system is sort of samey and boring. With a boring UI and its sort of repetative, make something to make another thing to make the item.
If you are seeking EXTENSIVE crafting - try Star Wars Galaxies trial. There are 4 crafter professions with further subdivisions: Structures (All buildings) Furniture (and decor), Weapons, Armor, Starships (all components), Food and Fashion, Vehicles, Robotics, Musical instruments, and hundreds of subcomponents for each category. Then there is reverse engineering for almost all items and space equipment as well. You also have to use factories and harvesters to get to your objectives. Also, BioEngineer-esque Animal engineering from DNA as well.
It may sound daunting -but there is plenty of help on the forums and its is actually quite user-friendly overall.
Good luck.
Wurm Online would be a perfect game for you then.
It's about building and crafting everything yourself!
Lets take for example, if you want to build a house, you will need:
The game is free, and it's being built on everyday
So if you want a game where you want to craft and build stuff yourself, Wurm Online would be the perfect game for you

Ikariam - Civilization type mmo
Ikariam is an online multiplayer empire building game based on ancient Greece that reminds me a lot of Civilization or Age of Empires – except that you can play it in your web browser for free and you don't have to download any software to your computer.
I'm glad my addition to Wurm Online was so well recieved. lol. Its not very often that people see my posts. lol.
Looks interesting - but I just saw the magic word: JAVA. Oh no! It will ruin my system. (And thus they have a disclaimer right next to the word Java client stating: we're not responsible for ruining your system!!!)
* The Java Client is supplied as is and OneTooFree AB accepts no responsibility for any damage to your system
Java damages you PC? First time I've heard of it. So i googled it. All answers i found say JAVA is safe.
As proof, i have been playing WURM for about 6 months now and nothing has happened to my computer.
