This will be borring. I will not buy this crap. game needs to be more interactive in being a MMO.
Example:
Helmsman
Science OF
Tactical
Security
Chief etc and so on before the ship can do anything!
I don't want to pilot a 200+(even 8,20,100) crew wessel by myself.
Cryptic! Please wake up and go back and visit this before you ruin this game!
Crafting same thing: You have to earn technology.
Example: You and your 300 guild mates. Some craft and others pilot the wessels and get to higher tier mineral areas. you build bases ,stations and whatnot. Then you get crafting stations. Hell even put a crafting station on the ship.In a/instance
Ships are built at Starports/hangars! Figured I'd let you in on that secrete.
The crafters earn the right to craft a Voyager or a Brown Variant Valdore. It will not be an easy task (or at least it shouldn't be)
Make the crafting engaging with stimulai it should be groundbreaking to any craftin in MMO to-date.
let the noobs start in smaller Pick up group like wessels (non DS9 Defiant etc). They can queue for a 5 player wessel and go earn exp and get some sell loot. When they have enough credentials they can become a crewman and train and specialise for what the Captain of the Guild/ship the Vessel needs and actualy have or be earning the expertise needed to be apart of a better wessel and it's crew. I'm sure you could have UFOP (Klingon Acadamy etc) as NPC starter guilds( federations, clan ,corp wtfever). Guilds looking for new or replacement crew members could look at these new players see how they are progressing and use this as a recruitment pool. Others who like to solo could possibly do like Guildwars did with NPC crewman. They might not be good at 1 thing but, they are good enough for a solo'r and not overpwered if done right (PVE only). MMO's are not for solo(lonewolf) type players but, there is money in it as having them a subscriber.
Seriously, I would love to meet the guy incharge of ideas over there. I don't think he has a clue about what an successful MMO is.
Use your brains over there!
I will definitly not play this crap if its mostly Away Missions on some instanced planet. Cryptic better get on the damn ball or this will be another huge failure.

seems nobody wants to touch this topic much. You guys sure don't expect much.
No, its just that there are about a dozen other threads on this subject already and anyone who would argue with you (like me) is already sick to death of hearing about it. I only came into this thread because I was wondering why you would reply to yourself. Also I'm getting pretty sick of the same handful of posters on this forum trying to turn every other discussion no matter what the topic is into a "bridge crew" debate. You know because you just did it yourself in this thread. This has already been discussed to death and really didn't need another separate topic started about it. Give it a rest already.

Yup. This topic has been hashed, smashed, rehashed, kicked, and thrown around since Cryptic made their intentions known, and even more importantly it was done over on the official forums to death. At some point, you either accept it or you don't, but continually bashing your head against the wall isn't going to be healthy.
Im here in this thread to try and figure out what a wessel is.
You need to go and ask Pavel Chekov about that one.

I agree with the OP. This is free advice STO could use. Why do they want to fail?
Being a drifting piece of ugly is BORING! Trekies are the wrong audience for this. Wake up and fast!
I basically agree with the OP. Making a Star Trek game a mere EVE2 kinda beats the sense of a Trek MMO. Something that has little appeal to me as to so many others.

i want to be capt, no wait i want to be capt, no you cant be capt cause i want to be capt ....
So yeah theres your answer, at the end of the day STO needs to have the ability to provide EVERYONE the chance to be Capt!
Go thing your not a game designer!

Yeah too bad SWG didn't take your advice, nows its a heap of crap crawling with AFK Jedi.
Captain is an earned position, just the same as when SWG was good is when jedi was not easyly obtainable.
Like I said before ,the way the devs have gone on this ,I expect a flop. I bet AWAY Missions will be instanced.
as poster stated above EVE pimped the 1player (whore) ship out good. STO might make a horrible attempt at the same thing but, with an Star Trek theme ?
One thing about EVE Online is its economy and crafting system (manufacturing) kicks ass. It's somthing even a Ferengi would be proud of.
I like the hell out of some Star trek but, seems now some company is gonna ruin the game of one of my favorite shows?
OMG, AWAY missions are so gonna suck. I bet its worse than tablusa Rusa.
I bet a CSS mod can sum this game up in a nutshell content wise.

Once again spreading lies I see. Captain isn't just a rank. It is a postion you hold on a ship if you are the most senior officer on deck. We saw this many times on the series. You will still have to advance thru the ranks in order to be the rank of captain, but you will also be captaining ships where you are the highest in rank.Very surprising that you didn't know this considering your claims to being a fan of star trek. Guess you missed the episodes where Crusher,La Forge and cadets were captaining ships.
And by the way, the "SWG VET whinage forum" is that way------------------>

They weren't the "captain" of the ship, they were in "command" of the ship, serving at the captain's pleasure. The captain (Kirk, Picard, Janeway, etc) is still the captain even when someone else is in command.
I was kind of worried about both STO and JGE messing with my EVE population.
Now that I've done research on the games I can just laugh and keep enjoying myself.
The devs of both STO and JGE have made terrible decisions, STO with no Crew/ship interiors and JGE with instanced pvp and no world pvp.

Looking forward to: Nothing

I question if what you say is true. Many will want to be captains (ship commanders) but there will be many who burn to be helmsmen, engineers, weapons officers, etc...
Not that it would be easy but its conceivable that ships above a certain class require multiple crews, however those stations can be run by players OR npc's whos skills would be goverend by the captain's skills/lvl whatever, but generally at a lesser effectiveness than a player crew of the same skills/level.
Also keeping in mind the IP in question, it seems counter to the theme to not provide dynamics for players to play aboard a ship together. I kinda thought that is what Star Trek is all about. I have difficulty seeing the game being satisfying to the fanbase as it is in its current incarnation as I understand it.

The most Senior officer on deck is the captian. Period. In this game your character will be the most senior officer on deck, so you be acting as the captain.

Negative. The most senior officer is the Duty Officer or the Watch Officer. The captain is still the captain when he's sleeping in his bunk.

As am I. In Star Trek, as in Real Life, the Captain was always the Captain, and always considered on-duty, even if he wasn't on the bridge. The First Officer, Second Officer, or the Watch Officer in Star Trek were never considered to be the "Captain", even when they were in command of the ship. Hence why they always ask the Captain to come to the bridge in an emergency.
