The server is not in fact down. There are ping responses coming back. This is likely due to some networking issue as the response times to the sever are not severe. Ping statistics for 78.129.196.125:
Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 22, Lost = 78 (78% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 126ms, Maximum = 130ms, Average = 128ms
If this was a content update there would be no packet loss. If this was an infrastructure update there would be 100% packet loss.
Chances are this has little to do with anything concerning the game.
its a ddos attack
I highlighted in red where I already stated it is likely a network issue (DDOS is a network issue). Pretty sad network security if they cannot resolve a DDOS attack in what 2 - 3 hours?

Well...thanks for the info. I just woke up, so I didnt miss much.
ddos attack... how very childish, imature and all that.. Hope the script-kiddie gets caught.
Due to the nature of how DDOS attacks work it is unlikely anyone will be caught. 1/2 the time you are looking at a large number of infiltrated computers/servers unrelated to the culprit in question. The real question is how come it is taking so long to resolve? There are a number of easy network security proceedures to resolve such attacks... often within minutes. This speaks volumes to the network security that Aventurine has in place and even more concerning is the fact that they do work for the Greek military. I am very suprised by this event.

It's 10am(est) and a massive number of people are trying to check the website. And this is basically creating a ddos attack. Even world of warcraft has these problems. There's no reason to go yelling scam like 99% of you are doing right now. Because I'm going to tell you something right now. Your opinion carries the same weight as mine does. (none whatsoever)
FROM THE DARKFALL IRC: (banZor)Site and Forums are down atm due to an experiencing a DDOS attack and their ISP is trying to deal with it. Aventurine are working on it. No ETA yet.
LMAO! This day it's absolutely no reason to suffer from a DDOS attack. Plenty of hardware security stuff that quickly resolve and counter these kinds of attacks.
When I was working at my previous employer we received DDOS attacks and other hack attacks on frequent basis and we had just one single network switch with dedicated software that dealed with it quick and effecient.

There is absolutely no way this is an issue of excessive use. Any 1/2 decent business line will have the capacity to accept simple server requests. You might notice some slowness, but not a complete cripling of the site. How many people do you think are trying to access the site right now LMAO....
This is not a usage issue by any stretch of the imagination... sorry.

Exactly... Like I said previously this speaks volumes about their level of expertise. Just one more thing to chalk up as concerning about this company.

You are brain dead if you think an indy dev can find the $$ to handle this kind of bandwidth. If blizzard can't even do it half of the time then guess who doesn't really stand a chance.

Yes comparing Blizzard who has numerous successful games played by millions of people is comparable to a company that has no currently released games and a base of less then 300K. I can see where you are making that leap in logic...
Bandwidth expnentially increases as the size goes up... To handle 300K people would only be a fraction of the cost compared with what would be needed for millions. Stop talking about something you know nothing about.

Someone is not happy with the lack of info or not getting beta invite.
I was thinking it was a DDOS attack. There's no excuse for people to do that...

Yes, Aventurine deserves to have their servers hacked into
Smart post kid.

Maybe we should send Tasos and his ISP this link: http://www.toplayer.com/content/products/intrusion_detection/attack_mitigator.jsp
This is exactly the machine we had installed in front of our Firewall and it worked like a charm.
Cheers

They are up. Kind of.
It's some sort of network issue.. probably put into play by Tasos. This will be the excuse as to why today came and went.
Boy, oh boy, I can't wait to see what the excuse is next month!!
