@ the person of the pink text I feel really sorry for you. You spend real money to buy pretend items. Justify it however you want, the fact of the matter is you are cheating to get ahead. If you have to cheat to get ahead in the game, maybe you just lack the skill to play and desperately try to make up the difference with your increased income. That's pathetic. A level playing field is the only thing that is fair and leads to a game people like. No one will like to play a game where you have no chance of winning against people who drop a couple hundred. It's like bribing judges to get an advantage at a race. It's unsportsmanlike and appalling. See here: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/3/26/
A level playing field? That is absurd. NO ONE WANTS A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD. Why else do people try and get better items? To tip the scale in their favor.
Millions of people play WoW. Which has a lot of gold sellers and buyers.
Level Playing Field = EVERYONE plays by the same rules.
It really isn't that hard to understand, or maybe it is...
Sounds nice, but there is not an MMO out there with that.
Okay. You have a point there. Now, tell me why that is.
Simple... Because no one really wants a level playing field. Everyone wants an advantage over their opponent.
Well, you didn't answer as to why gold selling, buying, powerleveling, etc... exist, except to generalize that everyone rather cheat (yes, it is cheating if against said MMO's ToS, RoC, EULA), than to play the game as intended.
I think you know what the answer is.
Like I said earlier, it isn't really that hard. For me at least.
Good Luck.
That was not the question.
Think about it... You stated everyone playes buy the same rules. I ststed that there wasn't a game out there like that. You asked why that is. And I answered that question.
Actually, people buy gold and power leveling services to make the playing field more level. Most don't feel they can compete with players that play the game 10 to 20 hours a day, so the only way to compete with them is to cheat.
... Gold buying is for the weak people who dont have the skill to do it themselves.
Lets say I kill 10 wolves easily. I have proven that I can kill them no problem.
They drop a total of 1 gold. That shiny sword costs 1000 gold.
You are really calling it skill when I then go ahead and kill another 9990 wolves?
That is taking drop rates and everythign else completely out of context and is not even a valid argument so I wont even comment on it. Lets just say get a friend or better yet craft it yourself. I will say another thing. How about go work for it instead of crying to mommy and daddy(gold farmers) that you cant afford it.
And no a friend playing your account for ya isn't cheating. But are the koreans your friends? no they aren't unless I missed something. And someone giving you gold isn't but are you giving them RL money in exchange for thousands of gold? Or are they lending you some for a bit?
And in case you missed it I called paying someone to do shit you can do yourself or learn youself to get an unfair advantage over people who cannot afford it or are nto willing to pay for it cheating.
Or we can simplify it. How about using devices clearly in violation somethings rules and preset policies cheating.
Please guys, try to come up with something logical before clicking that button.
ahh i love forumfall2, so easy to get people all upset when you call them on shit they can't justify

What you are saing than is that it is only cheating if you pay RL money for it? That's a new twist on it.
For instance... If I play WoW and I buy (pay real money) 10,000 gold, that is cheating. But if my ingame friend gives me 10,000 gold that is not. If I gave my RL friend my log on info and he plays my character for me while I am at work so I can get to Max level quickly that is also not cheating.

A game is a game. If I want to work I actually go to work in real life. I don't care if its a competition to you. Not my problem if you feel that way. If I have to grind needlessly I will simply buy it. If I have to grind endlessly I will simply stop to play the game. A game where real life money affects your success is in any case bad designed.
Oh and please explain the connection of skill, grinding and "drop rates and everythign".
--- Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
If it means I get to have more fun, then yes- absolutely.
I spend hundreds of dollars upgrading computer parts, buying miniatures, video games, going out to eat, and movies. MMORPG's are an incredibly cheap form of entertainment. Not only do they provide an innumerable number of hours of entertainment- but they do so at the incredibly dirt cheap price of $15 a month.
MMORPG gold is no different. In most games, you can buy $10 worth of gold/plat that'll be more than you'll ever need. If i love crafting, but I hate grinding for money to up my crafting skill, I'll buy gold.
If I love PvP, but i hate grinding for money to get good gear, I'll buy gold.
If I REALLY like PvP, I might just buy gold solely to always have the most elite, hardcore items in the game- always. The tradeoff is rarely very much. At most you pay twice what others do ($30 a month instead of $15) and have double the power, quadrouple the freetime (no grinding, no struggling, no begging) and a hundred times more fun and less hours wasted grinding. This being a full loot game, it might be different. Also, a world of Open PvP might rise the price of gold compared to other MMO's. If it's not worth the money, I wont buy gold outside of rare occurances (Crafting or a need to have a burst of money in a harsh circumstance) That is... if I wont get caught. If they crack down on gold sellers like mad- I will not out of fear of being banned. Otherwise, I'll probably buy gold via a trial or mule account, and then transfer it over to my main account- or find out how to not get banned.
What people fail to realize is that the game is about fun, and if I consider it worth my money, there is no reason I shouldnt buy gold. Why WORK at a game grinding with boredom for 4 hours just to play for 1 hour, when you could just pay $1 RL cash and get 8 hours worth of grinding and spend 5 hours playing the game with fun. I think people are weird who grind in MMO's for money when they could just buy gold. Some people work at jobs that pay over $20 an hour, yet refuse to pay $1 to spare themselves 3 hours of boring grinding. That makes no sense. If I was a lawyer or businessman who made over $100 an hour, I'd do nothing BUT buy gold- maybe even powerlevel's too (costing hundreds of dollars) if it would mean I get to PLAY the game instead of WORKING to play the game. Games like DAoC, you want to get to lvl 50 ASAP so you can compete in PvP. Lvl's 1-50 are a boring grind that no one wants to do. This would make total sense to buy a PL to 50, then pay RL $$ to buy a template. If your time is worth over $100 an hour, why in hell would you spend 40+ hours a week grinding just so you can (after a week or two) PLAY the game? I'm not saying Darkfall is like DAoC or other type games, but I am saying that PLAYING the game is what I want to do. Anything that is boring that I "must" do is a waste of my valuable time, and if I can pay literally only $1 to $3 to not waste my life doing something boring, then I will, so I can PLAY and have FUN. Because it's all about the FUN
This is exactly the type of person the RMT industry is catering to. For lack of better terms, this is a lazy and ignorant player. Anyone who buys virtual money in a video game is essentially cheating. Sure, your reasons may be justifiable, but you are not taking the time to view the big picture.
RMT destroys video game economy, in turn, destroying the game. If you have an argument against this, please share.
The other area where RMT is completely wrong is this: you are paying someone to play a video game. This is just wrong, a crime against humanity if you ask me.
So, when you place those two pieces of information together, you are paying someone to destroy the game you love to play.
Finally, if no one buys the virtual money from the RMTers, and the RMTers realize that they have no market in this game, then they will go away. They will find another game to play which provides more income.
If, however, you do spend money on their "products," they will see that there is profit to be made in this game, and will likely flood the game with spam in an attempt to find lazy and ignorant players to buy their "products."
A cheater is a gamer whom obtains an advantage over other players, making said gamer's playtime easier and giving him/her the ability to be more powerful in a shorter period of time.
Someone who spends real money on virtual money in a MMORPG is cheating, destroying the economy, and is supporting an evil business. There is no good argument for buying virtual money in any respectable MMORPG. It is wrong in so many ways.

Never said there wasn't cheating in the Olympics. Just commenting on your justification of cheating, and should we justify it simply because it exists. If that is what your argument is based on, it's essentially a weak standpoint. I say no, cheating is not justifiable wether it exists or not. And, of the official ethic of any agreed upon rules system as modis operandi of any given event/game, be it a sporting, Olympic or in this case MMO's, there is no justification for cheating, otherwise why even create a rules system to begin with?

Why do you think ppl buy stuff to be ahead? Maybe they couldn't care less about current rankings etc? Maybe they just want to simply skip the boring parts? Its not always about competition.
Someone started to compare MMOs with the olympics but the comparison is flawed. The olympic games are by definition a competition. MMOs are NOT a competition. Its just you wishing they were.

then case closed and you wont get far in life thinking that you can buy your way out of anything. And trust me you are, for sure, no competition as I can tell from the posts you have made saying you'd rather skip over everything than work through it. And you said it yourself "if i wanna work i work if not i dont" That states that you don't work for a living as most others and are in effect living off someone else as you want to do in a game. Me myself Id rather buy my daughter something nice or take my fiance out than give those fuckers my gold. But in the end its your choice. So have fun living off other people while the rest of us go out and earn a living.
And the comment about taking it out of context is that you seem to be statign the only way to get that thing you want is to go kill 10000 wolves. This isn't even remotely true and there are plenty of ways to earn money without resorting to cheating.
Deliberate misunderstanding and accusations for the win. You are right. No point continuing.
I could care less if I'm right at all. And is funny how everyone else agrees and the ones who dont are only the gold buyers because they are being shot down right and left. Its funny how you people get so bent outta shape when someone puts you on trial. Everything I have said makes logical sense ecept to you people who think cheating is ok. Which I must go back and say that you guys must never have worked for anything a day in your life or you would know that your money could be spent on something much better, like I dont know your children? no... girlfriend? no..... hmmmm oh how about mommy whose been spoonfeeding you?
Sorry if I touched a nerve but these ideals are just flawed. Defend them all you want tho.

Mjones, you are truely one of the more two-faced posters, and apply double standards when it comes to cheating. I cheat by purchasing gold in some games. I'm neither a child, (neither are the dozens of adults know who do it) nor unskilled, nor evil, and like others say, I do use it to level set the playing field vs the folks who have more time to play than me.
Some people have friends and familty power level or farm for them. In almost every p2p MMO account sharing is a clear violation of the rules (go check, except for minor children, you usually can't share).
But even if the rules say you can, I disagree. I think this is a form of cheating on par with hiring someone to do it for you. (Hey, I'm a cheater, I obviously must not have any friends) Only difference is I'm paying someone to do it. You may disagree, but in my eyes, if you condone it, you are no better or worse than me, and certainly just as much of a cheater. (because honestly, rules are relative in an MMO, there's nothing life or death on the line)
DF fans tell us gear isn't that important, so therefore if I purchase gold to replace all the gear that I'll be dropping to others, whats the harm. Like others say, I'll be feeding their purses, they should be greatful for my generosity.
Unless of course, gear turns out to be important afterall. Or are you going to be jealous when I fly by you on my mount because you can't afford one yet. Well, you can try to take it from me I suppose, but hell, I''ll just buy another.

As the title said, I was curious how many people would turn to the secondary market to resolve any cash flow difficulties caused by a full loot system.
And we know Aventurine doesn't have the resources to stop the farmers. (and neither do the players, but they don't realize it yet)
Not a smart, thought out question.

I don't understand how this topic has continued...
If you gold-farm, myself or many of the other MMO players will hunt you down like sheep...Most of this is because of the anger from many past games being ruined.
I don't really see gold farming being an issue at all with this game...But whatever; if so, I like standing targets.

Lets say I kill 10 wolves easily. I have proven that I can kill them no problem.
They drop a total of 1 gold. That shiny sword costs 1000 gold.
You are really calling it skill when I then go ahead and kill another 9990 wolves?

That is taking drop rates and everythign else completely out of context and is not even a valid argument so I wont even comment on it. Lets just say get a friend or better yet craft it yourself. I will say another thing. How about go work for it instead of crying to mommy and daddy(gold farmers) that you cant afford it.
@Ian

NO ITS NOT BECAUSE ITS NOT AGAINST THE RULES. If you took a fucking second to read some of the other things I have posted it was mainly about using RL money. The lamess surrounding having someone else do the work for you is another part of my argument. If your boyfriend wants to powerlevel you or give you all his cash let him do it. Why would someone do that for someone else anyway? Why not play their own character? But going online and buying from these korean companies where it is done by kids who mainly dont even want to from the beginning is fucking cheating and against any MMO's ruleset. Do you that that there is no cheating in the Olympics? I would guess that it would be very hard to find any game or competition that there is no cheating going on.

You are just argueing semantics here. If you get something that you did not earn, most would consider it cheating, against the EULA or not.
And chill out. Because someone does not agree with you does not mean you need to get verbally abusive.

Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

DF is supposed to be a game where player skill (and skills) matter more then gear. Look at this as your opportunity to prove to me that you are the better man.

The reason UO has the amount of RMT/Gold websites is because EA has stated that as long as it isn't a scam, they have zero problem with it.
