Darkfall is a finished and ready to release MMORPG.

jezvinjezvin Member UncommonPosts: 804

Is Darkfall ready for release? Yes

Comparing Darkfall to the release state of many other games on the market It meets the standard.

Stability: This game’s client is rock solid and errors are few and far between. If you experience them ever. This should be the highest standard to tell if a game is ready for release. There were several past MMOs that couldn’t even get this right. Point is, THIS GAME WORKS.

Playable world with mobs and content: It’s all there, some people say its empty but it’s simply not true. There are mob spawns everywhere, caves player city locations. The game has a lot in it.

Working Progression system: There is a skill system in place that people can progress their character though. Is it perfect and finished? No. But not even WoW had that crap down look at talents.

GUI: It has one and it works to a point. It is not very customizable but it still works. Chat is handled and you can interact with the game with no issues if you learn what to press.

Knows it’s target audience: The game caters to a certain type of player and they know it and the game is designed for such a thing.

Graphics: It is comparable to current popular games. Is it AOC super graphics no but it works and doesn’t look like its 10 years old.

I have been through a lot of MMORPG releases and darkfall is just as good as and better than some other games at the 1 week before released point. The game is there, it is playable, it is functional, it is fun, and it is ready for release.

    No, no it doesn't.

Please to realize, that in the developers words, Darkfall was ready for release since 2003, they were just "Polishing it".

I willing to bet you that you will not play this game more than a few months. Im sure I won't ever know for real how long you do play it for so a wasted statement on my part. The graphics to me looks no better to me than Asheron's Call but graphics don't matter. I'm sure the real test for the game is how truly how deep the crafting and combat and all the other things that are supposed to be the game will work. Also how will full corpse looting effect whether people will find it to frustrating and leave the game. I bet they will carebear it down in hopes to hang on to the subs. I don't expect a 10 year old game to offer the goodies that other up to date MMO's do but I'm sure it may last. Horizons lasted a long time and I think it is still around and that game barely had anyone playing it. So I figure Darkfall will be around for sometime and alot of people will say I was hoping that game would had been the one.

Smarter than the average bear? That is assuming bears are smart.

As a beta tester, yes they're better than AC.

    Agree.

A better working alignment system would be nice though, and Claus informed us that they is working on just that and the rogue one.

Rogue is when someone jumps infront of your blade flagging you grey.

It's nice to see they listen to their playerbase.

Edit - patching have been done in a impressive way which make me believe Devs is ontop of what we the players want to have improved. So far patches done just that, improvements based on playerbase reactions.

    Very professional.

I am curious, whether people would have judged DF fit for release if there hadn't been a game called AOC.

Trying to sell Darkfall to the general MMORPG crowd is like trying to sell porn to the Amish.   This game is not going to be for everyone or even most people.

I am an old man.   I suck at PvP.   I just can't compete with today's 16-30 year old.   I got my balls kicked in almost everyday in this game.   It was cruel but as I learned the ropes and how to suck up a beating, the game really opened up for me.

The thrill of knowing that my whole night of gain could be taken from me was hardcore.   It really meant alot to me to get a spare set of armor or two safely in my bank.    Player killers are the ultimate AI in a game like this and I was killed far more than I killed.    I felt bad for the people I killed because I knew they must really suck if I killed them.

I will buy this game at release.    I loved it.   It wasn't perfect by any means but it was so far more exciting than any other game I ever played with the exception of AC-Darktide.    In Darkfall, you aren't anything special.   The game doesn't hold your hand and tell you how wonderful you are.   I felt like a peon in an RTS.

The important thing to me is that despite how difficult it was at times, I really enjoyed it and because it was hard is why it attracted me.   I really think this game is a masterpiece in its own rights.   I feel that I am now going to be spoiled as no other game will deliver this difficulty to me again.

    Great argument.

I like this pie, it has the exact filling, consistancy, and texture that I look for in a pie.

              - No, no it doesn't.

    Link please.

As far as the OP goes, it seems to be the comment sentiment that I'm hearing.  That and, "I don't like the game, it's fail; I give it 2 months."  Wich is incredibly articulate and informative.

You obviously know nothing about the game.

Macro for some hours and you have max skills?

    Macro isnt even allowed.

And if it were, max skills would take weeks.

This brings back memories of my old pre-cu jedi days. Being perma overt and being hunted by every BH was the most thrilling thing i ever encountered in any mmo. If DF can bring that type of feeling back for me, then it is a success in my book.

My biggest complaint about this game was the start of it.

I do not expect a lot.  A little orientation would be nice.  Perhaps a bit more help for players to understand how the skills and controls work.

I had thought the whole idea was to have the city area and the area around it be a fairly safe zone.

Not a safe zone mind you, just fairly safe. A place for the player to get comfortable with the new interface and figure out what they were doing before jumping into the fray. It sadly is not and while I give props to the old guy above who loves to be a mob for gankers to kill I have less patience than he does apparently.

I have no problem dying if I at least have time to figure out how to control the character.  In my four hours trying to play Darkfall  I found that the game was not that fun. Mostly because I spent most of that time trying to get one quest done while trying to figure out how to control my character.

I think the new player experience is going to overshadow the rest of the game for a lot of people and turn them off playing before they even get to the rest of the game.

As many have said the game is not for everyone. Sadly, it is apparently not for me.

So, saying a game is "ready for release".. it is.  In so much as.. a game that's ready for release.
