Well my laptop died ( writing this from work) and awaiting a new one. I have jumped ship from vista and have joined the apple family. Im not here to debate apple versus PC but just ask about EVE and the PVP element.
Im looking at this game because Id like to play an online that supports Mac and its between this or COH or WOW. I really love sci fi so will be trying this when my new system comes in.
My big question is do i have to heavily PVP to enjoy this game. Im handicapped and my hands are very slow to type due to an accident a few years ago. So my reaction can be very slow so you can see Id be an easy PVP victim and i really dont want to play a game that i will have to keep trying to come back from this. I dont mind some defeats ( im very use to it ) but like to play a game where at least some of the time i can mine craft and explore some.
So wll i even have a chance to enjoy this game or should i look else where. Again cant test it for a week or so till new sysytem is in but would like some insight of players. Thank you

Nahh you don't need to pvp to have fun in eve.
You can easily join a pve corp that does missions, mining Ops and random stuff like Exploration. I know players that spent years just playing in high sec.
Just learn the basic mechanics and Pirate tricks because players in eve will try to grieve you but If you play smart you can have a virtually peaceful game play experience in eve for a long time.
If you get bored of the pve thing you could join Faction warfare and do some light pvp (if you get frustrated you can leave FW at anytime and go back to pvp).
Eve is a sandbox play how you want. I hear the Mac client is pretty good. they just recieved the new graphics overhaul so they game looks really nice.
Hope you enjoy.
Ask someone for a 21 day trial to get urself started
Edit: also Eve can be totally played with the mouse (unless chatting) so that might be a good thing for ya.
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
Another great thing about EVE is that it's all driven by the mouse, so you don't have to worry about individual finger dexterity. Just the speed of your clicking finger (which doesn't even have to be that fast).
Combat can be fast paced, but it also can be quite slow. You tend to always doing something, but it's more about thinking ahead and pre-planning.
It's been said that if you enter a fair fight in EVE, then you've done something wrong.
depends where you go in the game, in lower security areas there can be quite massive PvP, in high sec there's still some but not nearly as much as a 0.4 system and lower. Secondly everything is basically "hot keyed" so you don't do the mouse click thing nearly as much as in wow or other games, you can run all your basic commands just by pressing say "1 for gun a, 2 for gun B and etc*
Well ill see, even mouse clicking can be slow for me, i want to click but my hand doesnt respond ( only sometimes but can be frustrating) and i dont mind getting beat, just dont want it to be at the point where i cannot progress in the game and always trying to recover.
Ive seen the graphics and looks really nice, if cant get a 21 day i will certainly at least try the 14 though i feel 2 weeks is not enough to test agame. Ill probably just get the retail box that comes with 2 months paid, worst case i blow money that could have bought a couple of meals.
If any one can provide good links to read a beginner that be great. Thank you
You can also go into production (you generally need a bit of money first), which just requires your wits.
Of all three, I think eve requires the least amount of actual dexterirty.
The eve forums have some read resources to help. They can even show you how to outfit your ship and what skills you should train.
OP:
A few years ago I broke my left hand. I was playing WoW at the time but had played Eve before already. Anyways because of my broken left handtrying to run around and activate spells in WoW was near impossible. So for the next few months while my hand healed I played Eve and worked out fine.
I don't know how your hand injuries compare to mine (maybe worse for all I know) but anyways I was able to playe Eve when other games were not playable for me.
Hope this helps you out.
Since your looking for PVE, I'd be more than happy to help ya out!
Just shoot me an ingame mail - my character name is Eizmund Drohner.
hope to hear from ya. and dont worry - you can have plenty of fun PVE'ing. expecially since the Apoc release.
If you like things like mining, production and trading Eve might possibly the game for you. No twitch involved in any of these activities. Though 'Eve trading pvp' can be very harsh as well .

There is a ton more out there, also various podcasts etc, but it might be a bit overwhelming at first .
Have fun and let us know how you like it !
Yeah, in reading your post OP, I think EVE might be the perfect game for you in light of your disability. (playing games on a MAC)
Oh yeah, regarding slow reactions, I'm old, slow, easily confused, and I hate to press buttons quickly. EVE lets you take your time in most cases and you can set up both mouse and hotkeys and run everything.
You can avoid PVP for the most part, but be warned, someday you'll probably get killed from a griefer, war dec or whatever.
But it won't be constant, and there's lots of fun to be found in Empire space that I think you'll really enjoy.
Do give it a trial and I hope you enjoy the game as much as I do.

I'd have to say of all the MMORPGs I've played, EVE is the least 'speed' dependant. I've only been playing a few days, so can't really comment on PvP.. but the pve side of the game is fun, and doesn't require very much dexterity at all. it's actually fun playing a game that feels more tactical then twitch for a change.
