Gameplay Similar to Shadowbane?

ghaleonx128ghaleonx128 Member Posts: 145

I haven't read a ton about the game but for those that played Shadowbane, is it sort of similar?  It sounds like the politics might be a big part of the game since there is a limited number of spots to build a city.  I'm not sure how extensive the city building is in this game but in Shadowbane it was, and perhaps still is, the best for city building.  To take down a city is was a pretty long process that needed some good strategy.

Shadowbane didn't have a ton of content but the city building and the politics made it one of the funnest mmos I've played. Your guild was actually important since everything was centered around the guild city, unlike in other games where a guild's most important characteristic is a shared chat channel. Raiding and protecting your and an allie's city was always really fun I found.

One of my favorite moments in Shadowbane when a new guild moved to our server and settled down right next to our city. I read on their website a little about them and their goal was to basically create havoc and it was a really large group.  We had the opportunity to destroy their city since they just started out, but the guild leader said it wasn't nessicary.  We had a pretty good size alliance in our part of the world, but we waited and it gave them the time they needed to build up strength and wipe us off the map, lol. Hindsight is 20/20... No recent game has been able to give a similar experience but I'm thinking that Darkfall might possibley be a good candidate. Any Shadowbane fans enjoying Darkfall?

I was in beta and played SB. As much as I agree it was funit got to the point where 1 guild owned the server. Hell I was in the guild that owned the server and it got flat out boring. I think this will happen to this game as well, I can guarentee it. I did at first really enjoy SB and mildly enjoyed DF in beta, but it got to the point in both games of been there done that. As all MMOs do eventually, the difference is I found in those 2 games it hit alot faster. I will say I found SB a way better game though.

At the moment its one big mess most clans dont have majority of there clan mates ingame becouse its just to damn hard to get a copy.

So some lucky clans that have many ingame and it seems many macro like crazy now will own large areas prolly but world of AGON is huge and i doub 1 clan or some clans in alliance can hold the whole world in there grips.

1 server is just mor test server with most clans just learning and waiting untill rest of there clan in next few months hopefully get a copy of game if this takes to long they leave no doub about that.

    Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

I played Shadow Bane, and enjoyed it.  However the guilds that ruled a server, in my opinion, did it more by controlling the best farming areas than by controlling the whole map.  It was the experience that I had with the game.  I left more because of problems with the guild and a desire to try EQ2 than any major problems with the game.

I have not tried Darkfall, but if it is Shadow Bane-esque  that would be a good thing.  Currently I can afford only 1 game at a time and EVE is the most fun for my buck at this time.

This should be clear indication to everyone that Aventurine has NO idea what they are doing.  In a game like this, i.e., full loot, ffa pvp (and most importantly) territorial control via clanstones and sieging, it is absolutely vital for the health and longevity of the game for all players and clans to be on even footing and have an equal chance from the games launch.   Nothing even close to this happened.  Some clans have most of their members in, some have only a few, some have none.  It just gets worse with every passing day.  The game mechanics help to prevent zerging and to keep one clan from controlling everything, but the way this game was launched ensures that a few clans have an unbeatable advantage and most have a crippling handicap, and that will never change.

Not only that, but they are going to repeat the same mistake when they launch the North American server.  Those who have been playing all along (some even with a built in super advantage because of the already fubared EU launch) will get to transfer everything over from the EU servers, thereby gaining an insurmountable advantage at NA launch as well.

Good game, Aventurine!  You have no effing clue what the hell you are doing.  I (and my guild of 50+) are never going to play this game primarily for this reason.  If they care so little about game balance with respect to this, then they won't care about balance at all with many other aspects of the game.  We don't want to pay and play for a game where the Dev team is so unprofessional and cares so little about underlying fairness and balance in their game.

Mourning server and the server wars, trying to catch the infamous thief Stratosfear (Ithink that was the spelling) as he was caught on track, late night farming/levelling sessions, the Tribunal and their cleansings...so many memories.  Good times.

I think this game will need some time to see if it ends playing like SB with the political side of things, but if this game makes it, then I can definitely see something like that playing out.  Though, this is exactly the reason I won't be playing this game.  SB was a bit of a timesink what with staying active and productive in the guild, city defense, etc.  I have no desire to get involved in another game where I am getting calls at 4 am to log on and defend the city.  I needs my beauty sleep.  It was fun while it lasted, but not a thing I care to revisit anytime soon.

As for SB peeps playing it, I have heard of at least two Mourning guilds working on getting in the game, the Tribunal and UDL.

Shadowbane and Darkfall have almost the same graphics but they are very different games. Shadowbane's city sieges, player skill and PvP are so much more than Darkfall Online.

Telling Dark Fail fanbois they are wrong is like telling the Taliban they are wrong.  A complete waste of time.  Both are so stupid that you would have more luck teaching a brick wall how to dive for tuna.

Homework assignment for you when you get tired of playing with your crayons and blocks....when did Shadowbane come out? When did WoW come out?

So by your cough cough logic, which one is the same as which one??

BTW WoW is not point and click unless you enable it. Tell Tacos to at least provide the correct shill information to you with your paycheck so you don't look quite so ignorant.

WHOA!   Phrank no need to put the nerd rage goggles on right away.  I think the poster just meant to compare WoW and Shadowbane's similar style of movement and character progression.  I don't think the poster meant to declare any chronological order, but used WoW because many players have played it, and it would be easier to relate too than Shadowbane.

    On Topic:

TBH, it looks like the OP is more interested in the interaction between guilds than the combat style.  Last time i talked to someone in game ( 3 hours ago) he said that city siege was broken, which means the only entertainment value is mindless PvP.

  • ILOVEPVEILOVEPVE Member Posts: 33

I was saying point and claick + auto targeting are way different from the FPS like gameplay in DF. And we cant have PvP  or siges without a combat system.

The thing is that some old SB players bragged to me how much they will rule in DF, since they ruled in SB. But when i talk to them the nesxt time, they could not kill anything because they had never played FPS before.

    Thats what i meant.
