GameGuard  is evil, don't put that crap on your PC.

If you cheat and hack in games, then GameGuard is evil yes.

We, honest players, who play games for fun..... I don't see a problem with GameGuard at all.

Everything runs fine as it should be. Many games, software and so also TCOS with GameGuard.

And GameGuard has so far (months later) nothing done to my system.

If GameGuard fails on your PC and thus fails to run TCOS, then usually it does for a good reason ;)

    Cheers

Chuckle...In other words Citizen, if you aren't doing anything wrong, you have nothing to fear from GameGuard? :)

Thats a typical fallacy used by all too many. Have you bothered to research just what Gameguard does, and the manner in which it operates?

This is the Problem section of the gameguard wiki. Notice the remark about its activities being like that of a *rootkit*?

There are issues with GameGuard regarding problems with other programs. Many of the problems have been solved or are in the process of being resolved.[1] Gameguard pppoe disconnection problem in Cabal is resolved using a router. Because of its method of actuation (very similar to a rootkit), it is criticized for being extremely invasive, often without knowledge of the end user. The software installs a device driver which is difficult to uninstall; even uninstalling the game will still leave some files hidden on the system, but it stays inactive without the game. In recent versions (revision 1007 and up), GameGuard fails to halt when the game ends, so GameGuard continues to use computer resources and inject code into processes. This is often unknown to the end-user, as GameGuard masks its CPU usage by hooking Windows system querying APIs. Most anti-virus vendors currently exclude nProtect GameGuard from their detection databases due to it being commercial software, however this was initially not the case, leading to system crashes as both the Antivirus and GameGuard attempted to override each other.

Many hackers attempt to find ways to compromise GameGuard in new ways. For example, it has been said that GameGuard can still be compromised by using modified game client files, modified versions of Cheat Engine coupled with server emulation utilities. nProtect GameGuard constantly updates itself and provides new protection against the latest threats. Even though it boasts such effectiveness, in truth hackers can break or bypass GameGuard faster than it gets updated, therefore rendering the system quite useless. Especially from the number of sites out there utilizing 'bot' programs to flood the game to farm the ingame currency & rare items, which are then sold for real money. Such sites and 'bots' have been known to be up and running again, having bypassed GameGuard, within an hour of its latest update.

On some games such as MapleStory, the game itself does a hash check of the GameGuard revision currently running and will exit if it does not match the hash on the server side.[citation needed] This is a security measure from nProtect GameGuard to ensure that GameGuard has not been hacked and nProtect GameGuard should update to the latest version under normal circumstances.

GameGuard is currently not compatible with Windows 7 Build 7000 - it ends up in "Error Initializing (0)", so games using GameGuard also don't work with Windows 7[2].

Because of the way that GameGuard hooks into core system DLLs, it is impossible to run games protected by GameGuard under Windows API Emulators, such as Wine under Unix-based operating systems. The key issue being that GameGuard bypass the OS safeguards in order to:

    * Hide the game application process.

    * Monitor the entire memory range.

    * Terminate specific applications without the user consent.

    * Block specific calls to DirectX or the windows API.

As for it having done nothing to your system(so far...) perhaps you are lucky, or like the man who

has jumped off of the 100 story high building, who remarks as he passes the 50th floor "so far so

good"... :)  There are MANY better(and more effective) methods of dealing with cheating.  Poorly coded apps like Gameguard prey on the gullibity of suits looking for a cheap one stop band aid, to a problem that should have been addressed at  the very start of system design.

Oh god, are you seriously bitching about Gameguard being some all encompasing evil that has been oporation for years and is just waiting for the RIIIIIGHT time to strike and steal everyones passwords because its a *gasp* "rootkit". Lemme guess, you never heard the term before the whole sony fiasco so "rootkit"=evilbadscarything OoOoooOooOoOo. Grow up and get over it.

As for uninstalling it after finding out it wasn't F2P, thats nice, go back to 2 moons and shut up about it? Do you really need to announce to the internet that you either refuse to due to some ignorant ideal or are too cheap to pay for MMO services?

PS: FYI, it's not $18 btw and the "promotional price" crap they're doing right now is just to make the $15 seem like a "good deal". When the credit card system comes in, the plan is for it to be $15. And they never said it was F2P. It was made well known that only the first area was free, but you wouldn't be the first person who is completely incapable of reading and would rather charge into a game blindly, and then cry about things when they're not what you expected.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

    EAT ME MMORPG.com!

LOL!! Do at *least* make an **attempt** to be original... :) Posts such as yours demonstrate that reading comprehension is indeed a lost art... :)  Read it again...S L O W L Y.  At what point did I make *any* statement that even vaguely resembles your puerile diatribe in your opening paragraph? The fact is I didn't. I simply made note of what was stated in the wiki article.

As for the rest, you have obviously confused me with the OP. I have no problem with paying for games I enjoy, and so far I'm quite enjoying TCoSB.   If one has experience(and has bothered to research such things...) methods of removing Gameguard once a game is over can be discovered.  That does not excuse its manner of operation in the slightest.

Next time, before you go off half cocked and make an even *bigger*  fool of yourself, give some thought to your post before you send it.

You're an incredibly cheap person, and I feel bad for whatever family you may have or end up with. Kids are gonna get fucking sticks or something to play with... 'here, go have a sword fight with these. Imagination is free!"

Technically, it's free to play, yes, you have a lower level cap, but it doesnt stop you playing.

If you have comments and suggestions for free to play, put them on the website but remember to be sensible about it.

When I was a kid, I had a stick that was my favorite. I got some spray-paint and painted it a shiny gold color. It was a sword and sometimes an arrow. I loved that stick. I accidentally lost it when I shot it (when it was an arrow) into a tree. /sadness

Back on topic, it never ceases to amaze me how people can make simple things complicated. My God... spend 2 minutes like everybody else and read the damn site!
