I'll make this short because I'm not very good at typing, and I don't post often, and it has probably been mentioned before.

Now-a-days a lot of people see Aion and are instantly thinking "Another pretty asian grinder - lineage 3." For those of us who have researched the game, or even played it, we know it's not true. Or at least not in comparison to Lineage 2. (There's a grind in every game - whether it's grinding mobs, grinding quests, or grinding tradeskills.)

I have many friends who play mmo's, and whenever I try to talk to them about Aion, or if I show them screenshots/movies/etc... they all immediately come back with generally the same response "Looks nice, but it's just going to be another asian xp grind." Thankfully, I am able to tell them otherwise and re-assure them that it is not a another grinder.

But if I hear about Aion (almost) anywhere (general chat in other games; forums; chat rooms; etc...) people immediately start dogging on it for being "another asian grinder" simply because it "looks" similar to Lineage 2 and the millions of crappy F2P clones that Lineage 2 spawned.

It's really too bad. I bet there are a lot of people brushing it off because - yes - it DOES look similar to Lineage 2.

I don't really think it will doom the NA release of Aion, but I wonder how many more people might be interested if it had a different style to it.

I feel like Aion isn't getting the hype or love that it deserves because of this.

    Don't feel bad.

The people who got a clue and have actually read about the game, not counting the ones already playing it, are going to buy the game as soon as it's released in NA/EU as they know it's as far as 'another asian grinder' as possible.

The clueless gamers (though I really can't imagine a lot of them NOT knowing what Aion is about, especially during the NA/EU release a few months down the road), anyway these clueless gamers are going to take notice of the game's popularity and try it for themselves.

One thing is for sure, those people won't be ignoring it for ever, and if for some reason the game isn't a success, it won't be down to it's art style.

I am enjoying the game it is a dam good game, everygame has a grind  to it.  if they don't want to play it because they think it is nothing but an aisian grind then so be it, then they don't need to play it.   i  have  just started a mage in region7 server 104 if anyone one wants to join me, :-)

Too bad right? All games are different in some ways or another. People need to really look at a game before handing down judgement. But its just easier to say its no good and move onto the next thing right?

Btw, people who look at the topic of your thread without reading the contents most likely think you are complaining about how much grind there is. So its kind of ironic you unknowingly spread this bad information to passerbyers :[

That's why I put quotes around it, but I guess you could be right. I changed it. =)

People are going to talk like this until the game is released. When the game comes out and people start hearing how other people are having so much fun playing Aion they will also try it. Aion will do good but it will start off slow and grow over time.

It is very difficult to break this mindset when you are trying to convince them through words. Especially WOW players, majority of them that is. I have a few colleagues who play WOW and when they happened to see me play AION in the office, they're quite amazed by the gameplay, graphics and everything. I try not to tell them its a korean MMO and I also tried to be humble and careful not to say like "wow-killer" or something along that line else they'll start to be defensive :P

I don't mind grinds as long as it is an enjoyable grind, and has a decent pace.  Aion looks pretty good, I will probably give it a go if I can find my way in to a free trial or something.  The pve driven, high fantasy setting, although very pretty, isn't really my sort of thing,  but I'm open minded enough.  As long as the combat is deep, fast, and responsive.

Let's face it the lower lvls of the game is quite run of the mill MMO. It's the pvp that will bring in the masses (and that part is fun as hell thank god). The end game content and the control of the bot population is what will keep them for the long haul (let's hope they get that right).

Na i dont agree I think this is one thing that NC has got almost to perfection.

i hate games that are all out grind most f2p chinese mmo's  but i also hate pureley quest driven games (think EQ2 and trying to grind solo) Aion is really well balanced and you can choose the way you wish to play and xp rewards are similar.

If anything I would say questing as a group gives that XP that bit quicker as it should but you can go off and just grind if you don't feel like questing and not really be punished XP wise for it.

In other words xp is a bit more time realted rather than what you choose you do spend 1 hr killing mobs = roughly the same xp as 1 hr questing

I don't get why WoW players are so defensive to WoW. So stingy about it like it was the holy grail passed down from some saint. Sometimes you just gotta tell your friends/co-working. You know what, F**K WOW, It's getting old.

This is WoW we're talking about. You know your friends are messed up looney when they treat a video game like you where talking bad about their moms.

A lot of gamers will play through a marginal grind so long as they can see light at the end of the tunnel. Personally I'm not sure I'll be playing as I really just don't like the art, animation and controls.
