Male Mithra are technically in FFXI.

But XIV doesn't take place in Vana'Diel. So there's no reason for male mithra not to leave home.

Well since both games are in seperate universes and only the races LOOK similar, yeah I'm hoping too.

    /sigh I'll say it again ...

As the Mithran race goes the female are the hunters they are going out into the world of adventure to collect fame and glory for the pride. The males stay at home and defend the den. This is a parallel to lions in the real world where the bigger more demonstrative males defend the young when the sleaker more agile females hunt for food.

To have a playable male mithra would be against canon. The only real flaw with the Mithra in FFXI is that there are not more males npcs standing in Kazham.

I thought the galka's of FFXI were neither male nor female. Not saying there cant be female galkas XIV but just a thought.

In the new world they are not mithra.

    I'll say it again.

    NOT MITHRA.

SE has already stated the races will have new names and will look slightly different, for instance the galka like creature has no tail.

So its ENTIRELY possible to have male "mithra."

or girl "galka" since this is an entirely different world!

Jokes on you I edited it to make sense.  I'm sorry if you don't want to go and google to find this information but the world is an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT World.

So yes, Male cat people are totally possible.

In fact there have been rumors of a new race too!

On a side note you may be right that they are not called mithra/Galka in XIV, but dude your going to be arguing this point for a very long time, and you wont win it. People will most definatly be calling them mithra/galka until the game is released and get used to the new names. Even after SE announces new names, it wont matter people will have to play the game and get acustomed to the names. So I suggest you just conced this battle and pick one you can win. (even tho your right) If you cant beat em join em.

My only point is that the possibiltiy of there being differences in these respective races is there.

I'm not saying its bad to say Mithra, or galka, that was a joke.

I'm merely saying that everyone should keep an open mind when it comes to this game, things WILL be different.

I'd like to play a male from the "mithra-look-a-like" race myself.

I hope there's a tarutaru type race since my Wife will likely want to play one of those freaky carnivalesque abominations.

This is confirmed just based on the Trailer:

    Just saying ...

EDIT: and that "cat person" is a chick ...

  • As I'm sure you already know, SE said they wanted the races to look similar so that there's a level of familiarity, but FFXIV will indeed be a new universe totally separate from FFXI.  So it wouldn't make sense to apply FFXI's history/lore to FFXIV.

That is like making an elf not have pointy ears or half-lings not have hairy feet because they are not in a Tolkien world. There are certain things that become universal truths when you create them. I can't think of much that are cross story ideas atm so I Can't really support the idea much more than that.

Yeah ... that is fucked up. Next thing we are going to find out they gave Galka nuts too (they don't reproduce they are reincarnated) and then all that Galka on Mithra fan fiction you people write will all be possible ...

Good analogy ic0n67, but using that same analogy with male lions and male mithra, also proves that male mithra or male "cat-people" should be a playable race.  Only the one alpha male lion usually stays home to protect the young.   The other "alpha" males or former alpha males are forced to leave the pride and make it on their own.  Some male lions even kill the younger males just to make sure their reign last a little bit longer.

What better scenario to set up for an adventuring male mithra...  too young, weak or old to be the alpha male so he must adventure out to prove that he is worthy.

    I give up ... have your male mithra people ; ;

It would just be easier if there wasn't so many pathetic lonely people who see a paid of digtal boobs and start hitting on it >.>

They said to think of them as actors.  Saying you can't have a male cat person is like saying you can't have women in movies because the 1st movie was all male.

  • CydeCyde Member Posts: 41

Geeze, I step away for a week and madness breaks out. Listen, if there is going to be cat people and fatty fat fatties in FFXIV, and they are not "Mithra" but lets say "Arhtim" <--- omfg so creative! and there isn't Galka, but instead "Aklag" (with no tails of course) and the lore from FFXI isn't going to follow the two races, then I think one of two situations might occur.

    1.) We get male Arthim's and female Aklag's as a playable races/genders.

2.) They decide that they will just rewrite the race lore in FFXIV to follow the same footsteps as MIthra's and Galka's. EVEN BETTER, REVERSE THE LORE! ITS BRILLIANT! "The Arthim are a race of cat-like humanoids with acceptional hunting skills who do the whole reincarnation doo daa, and are female because they worship mother earth, zomg, DID WE MENTION THEY ARE ALL FEMALE BECAUSE THERES NO MALES BECAUSE ITS NOT FATHER EARTH?!" while our good friends the Aklag's? "The Aklag are a race of muscle man beasts who beat their women and make them stay home, possibly in the kitchen all day, while they roam the wilderness, doing Aklag shit that only male Aklags can do because female Aklags gotta stay home and watch the kids and cook dinner."

Anyway, you never really know with Square Enix. Hopefully they will add atleast one or two new races, seeing as how in FFXI they added how many new classes, concepts that require more time and effort than implementing new races into a game. Oh yeah and lets hope the FPS cap isnt 30 again because they decided to build a mmorpg around a console. =/
