For the last couple of days I have been ratting in 0.0 Providence, slowly filling up my hauler for a trip back to Amarr 1.0 Empire space. My hauler (Bestower) carries about 5,000 m3 with a warp stab fitted. Lately roaming gangs of pirates have been targeting Providence, and since the CVA and Sylph were out in full force last night, it seemed like a good time to make the run to Amarr. The first 5 out of 17 jumps had blues guarding the gate, and I thought, "So far so good, should be an easy trip..." Boy was I wrong! I was 4 jumps out of empire and the blues were long gone. I noticed a yellow pilot named Chalypso's Wrath in a Harbinger gate camping. Since he wasn't a red flashy or at war with our corp., I didn't figure it to be a big deal ---- until he locked me. My hauler is shield tanked with some resistance amplifiers and a medium shield booster. Once locked, he took my shields out in one cycle. I miraculously timed my shield boost cycle, and recharged up to full shields with only taking about 20% armor DMG --- 3 low sec jumps to go. He proceeded to follow me to every gate for the last 3 jumps before empire, and each time he took out about 25% armor. But my timing with my shield booster proved to me too much for him, and I just barely made it into Empire with about 25% armor left. My palms were sweaty, my heart was racing as this was one of the most thrilling hauls I have ever made. I sold off all the loot for about 70M. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Perhaps the best part was me razzing Chalypso's Wrath at the last gate by saying in local "Nice try douchebag", then warping. No other game offers an experience like this.
Hello,
1. My name is Calypso's wrath.
2. You did not "get away" through any skill of your own. As soon as I locked you, you were warp scramed. Luckey for you, you had a warp core stab on which allowed you to warp anyways.
3. I was in a Vagabond (heavy assault cruiser).
4. Smack talking is just one way to get a target on your back. 1st person to eve mail me the killmail for a shiny ship of this guys (isk value has to be over 50million isk ship and mods) + contract me his corpse gets 25 million isk from me. You can reach me ingame: Calypso's wrath.
5. After you jumped in, I had a choice: Keep going for a hauler that COULD have been full of loot, or go for the shiny Command ship that was more than happy to Agro me on the gate. (he died, and i got his stuff)
Perhaps the best part was me razzing Chalypso's Wrath at the last gate by saying in local "Nice try douchebag", then warping.
What i hate most about some people is their inability to separate real life from a game.
Insulting someone over a video game is the lowest of the low.
What do you expect him to do? Give him a thumbs up and a sparkly smile? This scenario has nothing to do with differentiating between real life and a game. It has to do with some asshat pursuing what he thought was an easy kill which turned out to be not so easy. When pirates actually challenge themselves for that so called risk vs. reward than maybe they'll get more respect than insults.
You are making the same mistake, why is the guy an asshat for playing the game his way? some people prefer to make ISK by pvp instead of ratting or doing missions and some people don't enjoy industry so they earn their ISK by doing what they are good at.
And don't pull that risk vs reward crap because we take just as much risk if not more because pirates kill other pirates we get blobbed by the major alliances and faction warfare gangs and many pvp corps come to low sec specifically to hunt -5 or lower.

My alliance will attack ANYONE we find in this space. Its our ROE - I did nothing wrong in the eyes of my alliance or to my blood enemies. If you travel Provi, you run the risk of running into either UK or our allies. Its a way of life - if you want to rat there you take the risk.

Personally, I'm biased in favor of the hauler as pirates have gotten me on occasion when my "scout" was not doing their job very well. I don't hate the pirates for killing me. I do hate having lost all my implants at the times. But, I just like to hear about the hauler that "got away".
That said, this is an example of actions and consequences whereas many games nowadays just worry about the "actions" part of that equation.

Read and listen to Intel and don't fly with a hauler when the Holders not here.
CVA doesn't bother defending lowsec entrances beyond maybe Misaba so you pretty much just gotta risk it. The intel for the lowsec parts isn't so great either because being lowsec it's usually a ghost town if memory recalls correctly.
Actually it's 'risk vs. reward' and those hours ratting wouldn't have been wasted. He'd still have all his isk from bounties killing 0.0 BS rats. You might want to learn something about the game before commenting on it.
You might want to take your head out of your ass before assuming that I do not know anything about bounties. I am well aware that he would get to keep the bounties but if you want to get into details then he would then also lose his hauler and any potential implants if he got podded.
Lol seriously, any pirate attacking me will get smack, thats part of the game just as pirates are

Flip side ofcourse is that if he had killed you then all those hours ratting would have been wasted, not fun in my book. And that is the problem with Eve, its all or nothing, and nothing inbetween.
Actually it's 'risk vs. reward' and those hours ratting wouldn't have been wasted. He'd still have all his isk from bounties killing 0.0 BS rats.

Taram is correct I gotta back him up on this. Many ratters dont even bother with rat loot/salvage. Albeit, myself I do bother to get most of my loot/salvage.
Like Taram, one would assume you are not familiar that ratters receive huge bounties for their trouble
But ok on the flipside, the OP is ratting in Providence which has worst bounties in entire South EVE. So I can see why he'd want to supplement his income with rat/salvage. I used to do the same when i lived in providence
Wait a second- I cant fathom why risk the route through low sec. OP you dont have to do this. Just stop off at misaba which is a neutral trade hub and breakdown the loot there if you must and sell. You shouldnt need to go all the way back to empire for this man its not worth all that risk. I never lost a hauler or even came close to losing one in provi. And I dont bother putting shields or warp core stabs on my haulers.
Granted you are smart for fitting your hauler to survive OP

It is all part of the game, I really don't understand you ...
Back in the day in DAoC during the SI era, we played our realm and "hated" the enemy, it made the game great, because you were actually roleplaying without realising it.
They were the enemy, they had to be killed, and if possible, some rude gestures should be made after you killed them.
I see no difference in EVE, it is all ingame, pirate wants to make someones life miserable ( ingame ), so I talk smack to them ( ingame ), I havent done that much tho, just saying.
It is all part of the roleplay, all part of the game.
Only once you go outside of the game it is different.

No, you're douchebags because you intentionally choose a profession that is geared towards making other people's real lives more difficult. Don't get me wrong, I love the freedom available in EvE that results in such things as piracy and any number of other opportunities for players to experience freedom of choice, but EvE isn't solitaire or Mario Bros. Calling it "just a game" does it and many other games a tremendous disservice.
MMOs aren't just "only games", and the same is true for many other single player games out there. They are complex, time consuming, and in EvE's case, almost as difficult as real life. There's a reason why some people who play EvE are able to go off and run successful businesses in real life, or create such businesses in-game that you don't see anywhere else. This is where the so-called "divide" between real life and a game breaks down. In point of fact, there is no such divide. Playing games is real. The whole "real life" concept (which implies that some people have "fake lives") is entirely based on your perspective.
There are many, many people who get extremely upset over less time consuming activities in "real life", such as editorials, political speeches, and other little things that have almost no bearing on anyone or anything.
If someone acts like a douchebag in EvE by playing a pirate, then I'm going to treat them like a douchebag.

Get yourself some help seriously, medical professionals are becoming aware of the psychological implications of people becoming unable to de-attach themselves from virtual environments so getting help will probably be easy.
Its really very simple EVE is a game and in a game you try to have fun, now if for some reason its no longer fun then don't play the game and that includes situations where other players who are acting within the designs and mechanics are upsetting you.
Noone makes people fly through low sec or 0.0 unprepared
Noone makes people fly with unsuitable ships full of expensive cargo through high sec
Noone makes people sit AFK in hulks in empire space
Noone makes people fly through low sec in T1 haulers
Noone makes people stay in corps when empire wardecced
These are choices that you and other players make yourself, you act stupidly and unprepared in a game that can have harsh consequences when you make a mistake but you fail to take responsibility for it and go around calling people douchebags for just playing the game.

CVA doesn't bother defending lowsec entrances beyond maybe Misaba so you pretty much just gotta risk it. The intel for the lowsec parts isn't so great either because being lowsec it's usually a ghost town if memory recalls correctly.
You might want to take your head out of your ass before assuming that I do not know anything about bounties. I am well aware that he would get to keep the bounties but if you want to get into details then he would then also lose his hauler and any potential implants if he got podded.
My gaming blog
OP- well done!

You might want to learn something about the game before commenting on it.
So we are douchebags because somebody is so mentally maladjusted they no longer see the divide between a game and real life?

Exactly. And in this thread we have several people who can't distinguish between real life and eve.
Also, i'm adding another 25m on ops corpse.
Refer to my post above.
Playing EvE is real. The choices you make in that game have real life consequences.

Currently playing:
EVE online (Ruining low sec one hotdrop at a time)
Gravity Rush,
Dishonoured: The Knife of Dunwall.

Congrats to the OP. You did very well, and the pirate deserved the little smack he got. I think he might be a bit peeved he didn't get you, though....lol. Maybe he should read the forums on how to be a better pirate.
