1) Pre-ordering games is foolish, please try to remember that you're supporting bad games with this
2) You are right, Aion offers absolutely nothing new and took standard MMO elements from different games, mashed them all together and created a linear, boring world. I hope this game doesn't attract many players, other innovative and fun games should get money, not linear grindfests like Aion.
3) You can undo a pre-order with a chargeback usually
Speaking of Aion chat, why can't you use channels until level 5? I've seen people asking good questions in chat that I have to answer by tell because I can't respond publicly. I still get the message across, but anyone wondering the same thing is left out.
I love this feature. I hope more new MMOs put something like this in. It gives people a chance to think on their own (gasp!), while at the same time preventing spammers from rolling a level 1 toon and flooding the channels.
You know, i personally do not think Aion is a bad game, it just doesnt do anything original enough to get me to buy it. But to say the lack of a basic fearture is a good thing to get people to think on their own for the first five levels of a cookie cutter MMO is pretty lame. From the sarcasm of your previous post on this thread you seem to think everyone who has any negative thoughts on this game is a WOW fan or just tired of MMO's. Well sir, i am not a WOW fan but the fact that Aion is so similar to WOW and many other games is why I made the decision not to buy it. You are correct im tired of the MMO's that have been released in the last five years and Aion is just one of many of the same.
Just in case you are interested, I am offering pre-orders on trips to Jupiter. Get in now for the low, low price of $100,000.00. I'm absolutely serious about this. Please send me $100,000.00 and I will guarantee you a first class seat on the very first flight. You cannot possibly lose.
I am so hoping the OP did not learn a lesson. I am not going to be happy if Aion has ruined my Jupiter project.
edit: Sorry, in my rush to sell you seats to Jupiter I ignored your question of 'Why oh why did I preorder".
The answer to that question, I'm afraid, is that you are a moron.
And speaking of Lore, what the hell? I'm sorry is there some book I'm supposed to have read because apparently I'm the only one that doesn't understand the "lore".
What 'lore' exists is basically there to explain why you can't really fly when you want to. And it's around on the official site, but frankly not even worth seeking out due to it's generic nature.
What a absolute crock of crap if you bother to actually dig into the lore it is exceptionally well written and insightful and gives a fantastic background on the world and why the 2 factions came to war.
I'll be playing full speed ahead when the head start opens.
However, the OB so far has just re-affirmed my opinion that the game will not be a long term title, for me and for most who join up. The flaws are more evident, as happens once you've played a game for a while. I stick by my guns in stating that the world is too small and not very well designed. I'm also just as certain as ever that not offering more PvE friendly servers is a mistake.
There are things I like about the game, but the fact that I'm buying a game I see as pretty flawed just speaks of the sad state of the MMORPG market at the moment.
BTW, I hate the zone design in the level 20-40 zone. Very Guild Wars in the restrictive, "rat in a maze" sort of way. Also, with 20 levels squeezed into a zone not much bigger than The Barrens in WoW or a zone plus RvR lake in WAR, the very small area that hosts content for your level range (and grinding pleasure) feels very tiny after a full session.
So I have started to see what many people have been saying about this game. Just recently, "This Game Sucks" and "Aion=Migets Online". It's just sad really, I got sucked in by the graphics. But, there's absolutely nothing special about this game. I've now tried every class, gotten each to at least level 10. And not one of them seemed appealing at that point. It's the quests. It's the combat. They're completely second rate. Not engaging or immersive. Not only that, but the community isn't great either. Granted I've seen worse people, but making suggestions to those lore craving lunatics is not a smart choice. And speaking of Lore, what the hell? I'm sorry is there some book I'm supposed to have read because apparently I'm the only one that doesn't understand the "lore". Anyway rant is over, that's about as much time as I'm going to spend dissing this game.
At least level 10? You do understand that at level 10 you start playing a "new" class, and how could you judge those classes from not even playing them? Since at level 10 you just change your class, it implies that you must play at least some levels to try out the "new" classes.
It is quite funny to read this type of "reviews" or what we should call them, in which the OP relentlessly bashes the classes in Aion without having any experience of them. All your arguments are hypothetical and have really no base to stand on.
We can totally judge a game during beta! Check out this review...
You guys.... I played WoW last week, got to level 30, and there just wasn't enough content to get me interested. The game is total fail IMO. The end-game content just seems blah-se, and pvp is just not cutting it in the 29 brackets. I might not have played it yet, but I can totally tell. Why can't more games be like everquest?
Its ok addicts, Cataclysm will come out soon and you'll be back to playing your favorite game for 5 levels and tier 12 gear. I really need to build a poor assumptions of MMOs thesis maker so people can perhaps come up with more valid arguments than "it's just now WoW caliber!".

This.
OP, you hardly actually played the game. All you did was complete the "tutorial" while apparently being too stupid to read the quests and the tons of letters / lore that you get with it.
Really, I don't know what you're talking about. You're right with one thing. Aion doesn't offer many new things, but it's awesome the way it is.
I'm keeping my pre-order CE. I hate you because you are right. I want Aion to be my game for the next few years, but the PvP aspect and the limitations it brings to the genre worry me.
The basic design of any PvP oriented MMO must take in account the number of players in a PvP area. If the area is too big, then PvP suffers. Instanced PvP was the solution that didn't work. The PvP folks want a smaller, more focused world so there is always a fight ready to happen in the sandbox. That is completely at odds with the PVE crowd. Eve has come closer to this ideal than any game so far.
PVE people want an interactive virtual reality that is somehow an extention of movies or books. PVE people crave adventure and that requires a larger world. The PVE crowd wants to explore and be entertained in a dynamic way. WoW got this right initially and then just degenerated into the digital equivalent of mud wrestling.
So maybe MMORPG designers should just STOP trying to meld the two forms of virtual world entertainment and admit that there are two very different audiences.
Then again, maybe Aion has found a way to introduce the PVE crowd to something new. Someone will get this mix right. Will it be Aion?
While Aion does seem WoWish to me(MY OPINION BRO'), it's to me only. I managed to built a lot of info based on my 1-20 experience then asking some .cn players on a fansite. And it works, I will probably not buy it at first. But to cancel your pre-order based on random posts on MMORPG.com? That's a bad idea dude, there's a reason this place is a troll paradise.
Speaking of Aion chat, why can't you use channels until level 5? I've seen people asking good questions in chat that I have to answer by tell because I can't respond publicly. I still get the message across, but anyone wondering the same thing is left out.

But to say the lack of a basic fearture is a good thing to get people to think on their own for the first five levels of a cookie cutter MMO is pretty lame. I disagree. Preventing spammers from creating a toon in 10 seconds and jumping into the chat channel to spam gold or leveling services is a good thing. I think most people would agree for that reason alone it is a worthwhile feature. Additionaly, teaching people to think for themselves initially puts them on the road to self reliance, or at least partial self reliance. In these days of "me me me" and entitlement kids (and adults) who would rather have someone else do the thinking for them, this is a nice first baby step in the right direction that does no harm in the long run (there is nothing you can do in the first 5 levels that will screw up your character). From the sarcasm of your previous post on this thread you seem to think everyone who has any negative thoughts on this game is a WOW fan or just tired of MMO's.No, I have nothing against WoW fans. I am one myself. But you are right on the other point. When I see people post stuff like "there is nothing original in this game" or " it's the same old thing" or "the lore is uninspired and the leveling is mind numbing", these are red flags that clearly indicate a person is burned out on the MMO mechanics/genre and needs a break. People who suffer in this way are unwilling or unable to immerse themselves in the experience of the game because they have done it so many times in the past. It's only natural that they need a break to renew their desire. There is nothing wrong with that at all. In fact, I applaud people who step away to refresh themselves. What I don't like is people who bring their gaming baggage and burned-out perspective to comment on a game they barely played in an open beta. I think I have every right to post a response to these people and mock them for their myopicness. Well sir, i am not a WOW fan but the fact that Aion is so similar to WOW and many other games is why I made the decision not to buy it. Thanks for proving my point. You are correct im tired of the MMO's that have been released in the last five years and Aion is just one of many of the same. Thanks for proving my point again. I sincerely hope you enjoy whatever game you play in the future. Good day.

The OP is just another example of why PvP games will never succeed in the western market. The majority of players who are interested in these games are simply 18-25 year old children with no patience. They are not game players but rather they spend more time hyping and trashing games on message boards than actually playing them. They have no patience or attention span so they want everything simple and dumbed down for them. They want everything handed to them and will scream, cry and whine without end against having to put in any effort. They need constant excitement and eye candy and always prefer flash over any substance. They are the first to hype games and the first to leave when they quickly become bored. They unwittingly do their best to destroy MMOs for real gamers. Aion's success will be measured in the Asian markets not the fickle western market dominated by the PvP kiddie message board thugs.

The OP says himslelf he only played to level 10 . I was thinking of my experiances in WOW upto level 10 . All i did was go out and kill x number of creature . Find x number of items . I also dont form opinions on a beta client however close it is to release .
For these reasons the OPs opinions really arnt valid . I wonder if he actually did pre-order because its quite simple to cancel it if you ve done so online . This makes me think its a troll .
