Don't be fooled

Don't be fooled by the high score on this site... this game is crap.

It is a poor implementation of the Champions PnP.  In fact, it is not really an implementation at all.  This game is not ground breaking nor an improvement on earlier games.  It was thrown together by a studio who had to do something with a product Marvel dropped.  The gameplay is simplistic and gets boring real fast.  I would ask for a refund if I thought I could get one.

What a waste of time this was.

I enjoyed the game, but i never played the PnP either. to each thier own i guess like the saying goes, opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, and when its not yours it stinks.

Your OPINION has been noted. I disagree with you, but thanks for sharing your thoughts. Nothing more to see here.

Can I have your key? :)

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Thread's closed, LOL.  You are funny.

I have 20 years experience playing Champions the PnP game.  This game could have been amazing, if they had stuck with the system that worked for all those years.  The arguement I always see is well its in the Champions Universe.  Yeah I will give it that, but the Champions Universe sucked.  It was the game system that worked.  HERO games should have used another studio and the developers should have understood the game system.

Instead, this was CoH 2.0 with crappy graphics and the ability to pick powers that completely mismatch to one another.

In your opinion, the game is crap. Apparently a lot of people think it's good, hence the higher rating. I'm sorry you don't like how it turned out, but thankfully there are a lot of other MMOs to try out.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

The game is very boring. You can go up to 10 levels and never get one drop... your only with at the MOST 100 people.. thats IT..thats your Massively Multiplayer Online.. see the first word.. massive.. 100 and thats the MAX lmao... you can be killing level 8's and a few yards is level 20's.. HAHA.. small maps..

And if you pick the wrong powers.. you will HAVE TO reroll. You will never be able to respect. The price to respect for just ONE power will take all your money. Like take me.. I have 10s. For me to do a total respect is 280s. For just one is 8s.

Ok so you dont know what to think.. its going to cost you over $40 to find out. Its NOT anything like COH.. alot is copied .. but after level 7 you dont feel like a hero much.

So if you like small maps.. and NO CHAT.. just go read the forums.. there is NO CHAT.. just "doing fred anyone else?" and thats it.. things like that.. and you like small instances..

And dont worry their going to have tons of stuff at there MT.. or Store you know like free 2 play games have where you can pay EXTRA money to get stuff.. .. dont let anyone tell you different.. all you have to do is ASK Cryptic.

If you like it. great!.. me its just to small and with only 100MAX players.. and no chat.. no drops.. all I do is quests.. killing or just grinding I get nothing.. just no fun.

Ithink it's one of the best MMO's out there right now, I enjoy the freedom if the classless system, hurts PVP balance, but I'm sure that will get sorted soon.

I don't know why we should take the OP's advice rather than the one formed by popular opinion in the ratings section. Do they have some special qualifications, nope. Its just another worthless opinion on the internet.

As opposed to your own opinion...

versus the OP or the worthless ratings system on this site...

The game is good or bad based on the personal opinion of each person who actually plays it.  Not some poster here or a heavily manipulated ratings system.  Just like every other MMO out there...

Even with a "good" ratings system (one based on polls taking during login to said game) your personal opinion may differ from the "masses" and its still 100% accurate for you.

So I guess the reply seemed kinda funny to me.

For just one is 8s.  What the hell is a "respect"?  I don't think that has anything to do with this game as I don't ever remember a "respect" when I was trying to RESPEC or RETCON.  Learn the language before you speak.  Oh, and do some research before you choose powers.
It's really not that difficult as you can see what each power's stats are within the training facility.  And, you can even test them on the training dummies (offensive powers) or training lasers (defensive powers) or travel powers before you even leave.  Oh, and RETCON's are free while you remain in the training facility, so you can test away.  I'm sorry this game doesn't hold your hand and force you to take certain things like WoW, EQ, EQ2, etc...  Think before you choose.

I Agree. No point of me making a full reply on this, I did my points last month. I am enjoying CO and there is nothing wrong with it. People been trying to hurt Cryptic from the day CO release to stop people from trying CO. How can they hurt CO when it is actually good and the game only been out for a week or 2.

  • HorkathaneHorkathane Member Posts: 380

The only reason for this post is because the OP wants you to play his crap game due to the PHEAR that everyone is getting of CO taking over. ITs true, the game is on the up swing one way I test is that all instances are full all the time I can get into a PvP match in less than a third of a second affter joining a Que, non stop all day if I wished. This game is like crack, the only reason im posting now uinstead of playing is the server crashed due to over a half million playing.

  • tryklontryklon Member UncommonPosts: 1,370

Stop doing this damn stupid posts. People always have to be arrogant enough to think they own the truth and that everybody else should think like them.

If you dont like the game fine, move on, just dont come here and tell people not to play it. Im sure we are all inteligent enough to make our own conclusions after we try it.

I stopped playing CoH because it got boring. I assumed that CO would bring something new and fresh after watching all those game trailers I eventually had the urge to want my own copy of CO.

I picked up a copy finally!

My 1st impression was it was a "Polished up" version of their original work on CoH. I'll give it props for their new engine which is very unique, but the game play and style is way to similar to CoH. It's like they took what they did before with CoH and just added new features and called it Champions Online. I guess that's a great marketing move on their part, hey, they gotta make money right!

Anyhow, if you have always enjoyed CoH then make room for CO it's a game for you. I am not saying the game is bad it's good for someone just not for me.

MMORPGs aren't easy, You're just too PRO!

After a few months CO will fall in the same ranks as AoC and WAR, popularity wise.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI

CO is pretty damn funny actually.

Sure it's not incredibly innovative but it's certainly not crap. Especially considering CoX is the only other real Superhero MMO out there, this game gives a whole new perspective on leveling up etc. Instead of grinding the same missions constantly, you actually have a more open world to do missions. Same goes for gameplay, CO is much faster (more fun imo) and CoX is slower. So it depends on your playstyle.

OP is mad the game isn't an exact replica of the Champions PnP. lawl

the OP proberly is more mad at cryptic for not copying WoW more then anything.  Thats why most people start complaining how a mmo sucks.  No mmos suck to me, its the people in the community that make a mmos a bad experience.  shoot the game just came out, no mmo is perfect on release..even wow wasnt.  Im going to start playing CO myself, since ive enjoyed CoX, and beta CO.  Plus the OP or the other haters never reply back cuase they proberly secretly playing the game they hate so much, or in a cornor like emo kids.

  • tuscaroratuscarora Member Posts: 52

Fanbois aside.  I know the Champions PnP and know its potential.  That is my reasoning for my opinion.  As a software engineer, the HERO games system was perfect for implementation as a computer game.  Those of us who were loyal players of that system and the Champions RPG know its potential and have seen it poorly developed by Cryptic who had to slap a label on a game that Marvel abandoned.  The real problem is that they did not try to create Champions MMORPG, but instead Champions (formerly marvel) the RPG by changing parts of the world and its heroes.

With a poor game system, crap customization (color change does not customization make), and real crappy graphics (sorry fanbois, I am a very long time comic fan and even these graphics are crap for early age comics - can't even define an era, I was so disappointed).

Now, I want those who are loyal to the game to enjoy it.  But I am entitled to my opinion, if you don't like it... sue me.

Nothing about this game was game changing.  I would say without a doubt, that Hellgate: London was a better game and it went the way of the dinosaur.

I rarely comment in these forums, I should have more in the past.  But I felt it necessary to warn those who are going to look at that number and think my god this game is the best thing since sliced bread.  They need to know it is so bad that lifetime subscribers requested refunds and got them.  That six month subscribers demaned the same and got them.  Cryptic knows what a piece of junk this game is.

The good news is CoX is still rocking along and I find it much more enjoyable than CO is, but not could have been.  And DCUO just announced that it will be free to play, no designation on whether it will be microtransactions or guild wars type expansions as yet.  That is encouraging news given what I have had the opportunity to see, it looks enjoyable.

Sorry to crap on the fanbois parade, but this game is still not worth the money nor time given this stage of development of MMO's.

Edit for the record, I don't like WoW.  Never did.  - Sorry to the fanboi who thought that would justify the disagreement.

I also forgot to add that Champions should have released villian play from the beginning, but that would have required a reimplmentation of the game system since it is not designed well for PvP.

Well problem with adding another sideis that it ends up diluting the content, CoV resulted in no new content for CoH players for 3 to 4 releases. In the end both sides ended up sharing content rather than having anything unique because of lack devs. I don't think super hero game will ever have balanced pvp have given up on that after seeing them waste 2 years trying to fix all ATs for pvp.

Problem is there is way too many possible class combinations and travel powers  heck look how WAR turned out and all it had was 12 classes and few small difference between morales for order and dest. pretty much ruined it. Unless you plan to have just 4 classes exactly indentical on both sides like Aion you won't have balanced pvp (even AIon has balance issues).

  • tuscaroratuscarora Member Posts: 52

Balanced is a word I don't like using in these games.  I am not sure you ever have balance when classes are different at all.  Warhammer hurt themselves by trying to balance the classes when that was never the real problem.   As long as you have zergs, the side with the greater numbers will typically win in these games.  And that makes sense in a lot of ways.  Tactics should change the game, not numbers and with the possible exception of Planetside... that did not happen well.  In that game it was a game of rock, paper, scissors.  The right weapon overpowered the right enemy.  A well played infiltrator could be a great asset, a poorly played one of no use.  Snipers were effective if they played on their range and did not fight from the front lines, but instead flanked the enemy so they did not know their locations.  Reavers devastated vehicles.  Skyguards devastated Air.  Tanks devastated infantry.   While one side or another always bitched about the opponents being OPed.  The reality was each sides differences were potentially more dangerous in specific situations.  The NC has a Heavy shotgun which was very powerful in towers, but useless at range.  Etc, etc, etc...

Balance in Champions was accomplished by limiting the total points on a character.  Example a 12d6 Energy Blast would be 60 points.  If you wanted the same blast to have an armor piercing effect it would be less than the 12 dice of damage.  And you capped the points for attacks, defense, etc...  Champions RPG was one of the best balanced game systems I have ever seen.  And just like Battletech, you can't just convert it to a computer game without using the system it was based upon.  That is where these games fail.

The game developers (HERO) not Cryptic, had years to balance out their systems.  The developers (Cryptic) ignored or did not understand these systems and thus created the existing piece of junk.

OP is right about one thing; the setting is pure uninspired trash. I guess I'm just not that fond of silver age cheese. Still, I find the gameplay fun and entertaining, and I can forsee myself playing this for longer than two days. That's how long I could play CoX. The massive amounts of instancing really killed the game for me.

Not too familiar with Champions how did stats scale with items or was it all fixed value? One problem bringing over table top games over to MMORPG is the question of gear and how to scale them.

    @Neonseeker,

What zones have you done? Desert and Canada are pretty lackluster and you can see they were rush kob but Millennium city looks very good.

Don't be fooled by this post,,,,, this post is crap.

You post that you are a 20 year veteran of Champions PnP so that makes you some kind of mmo expert. Horse droppings. Who cares? Your 20 years of playing a PNP game makes your opinion even more worthless in regards to the mmo Champions Online. Sorry but 20 years playing one PnP game is a waste of time, just like you say CO is. That is my opinion just like this worthless post is your opinion.

CO is a well polished fun game. I could give a crap if it is not like the PnP game, never played and never will. I play mmos not PnP and CO is fun. Cryptic has proven they will improve this game with time. What has Cryptic's making CO have to do with Marvel? I do not even believe you have played the game. If you have you would know it is hardly thrown together. No need to respond, I know my post is sarcastic it is meant to be since you hold yourself up as some kind of expert. I could careless about your feeling about CO. You hold up your 20 years in PnP as if you are somehow more informed then all the people who like CO. Oh and you being a software engineer means exactly squat, who cares. Take your 9 post somewhere else and leave mmorpg for those that play mmo not PnP. I am simply tired of the uneducated crap people post about games I doubt they have played. To those thinking about CO this guy has no clue. Try it is is a good game.
