I can't believe its come to this..might come back

Hello, I quit shortly after the release of WotLK and was looking forward to playing some of the other mmos that were coming out.  Well, none of them worked out that well and nothing out right now is that appealing. I don't see the fuss about Aion, I didn't think it was that fun and I really can't see it being fun (if it was fun to begin with) in the long run, but who knows.

So I heard awhile back that they were returning the semi old school BG grinding, which was sort of my thing.  I enjoyed AB, AV ect. more than anything else in the game.  So could anyone briefly explain if they wouldn't mind the changes to BG pvp?  I never did arena, so I had crap gear in BGs even though I did them all the time. I got to about 4 ranks from the top when I was really into pvp, I loved the niche that developed from the hardcore pvp people.  After ranks were taken out, that niche disappeared which was pretty disappointing.  I assume that by doing BGs now you can get some good pvp gear that has Resilience? I hate that stat btw, pvp went to crap for me after that went in lol.  Also, is the pvp gear at all useful in pve?  I'm guessing that hasn't changed so probably a no, but thought I'd check. Thankies.

well yeah, open world pvp is the best, but thats really old school lol.  I guess there was some when achievments came out, but really world pvp happened pretty early on.  Good ol' crossroads and that sorta thing.  No rewards for that but still really fun. I was a feral druid so I always ran the flag for wsg, that's one reason why I like bgs though.

Just do arena for 1800 then you can get yourself great gear for dueling/BGs/WPvP events.

In the PvP Panel at Blizcon they said the rating from Battlegrounds will come on a strict win / loss basis. It won't drop with a loss however, like arena rating does. I hope this will change before it goes on the PTR and make more use of the Honourable Defender buff for defending a flag for instance, or take some of the stats like killing blows, healing done, etc in to account to weed out the leechers or it won't be any better than the free epics for honour that we saw in TBC.

Also, to take part in a rated BG you have to do it as a guild. Your team has to consist of at least 75% of your own guild members or you don't get the points. This isn't good news for me as I'm in a small guild of friends and there's no way we could field a BG team so there'll be some hard choices to make. It will affect hard-core pve raiding guilds in the same way I imagine. Alterac Valley is being limted to 25v25 for the rated version which will help some guilds a little. But hopefully they will see the error of their ways and let us make teams like we do for arena. Or even have a secondary 'pvp' guild.

The other aspect I think they have wrong is they are only having one rated battleground available at a time, similar to the existing holiday weekend system. They said this is to give us variety and they may be right, but it could very easily go the other way. Once one BG gives you rating would you play any other? Not much variety there.

I'm a big fan of rated battlegrounds but they need to get them as close as possible to perfect from the outset or it they simply won't work. They still have plenty of time to fine tune things before they reveal all on the PTR so for now I have faith that the early details they've released aren't set in stone.
