I finally gave in, and decided to try AoC again with the free trial. I'm using the same computer I used many months ago, and really had no performance issues then.
I have some really weird graphics bug going. I can see everything except the gameworld. I can see the UI, the movies, my mouse arrow, the text during the opening scene. I couldn't even see my character as I was making it. Though, I could see the UI. I just made it all random, and hoped for the best.
I updated drivers, changed screen resoultions, and even deleted the pref folder. Nada. Oh, well.

Hey Brostyn, are you trying in DX10 test or DX9? Full screen or windowed?
I see you updated stuff which is good, however, have you updated the DX runtimes yet?
If not (and this helps with other games) pop here: www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx for the simply Runtime Web Installer.
Simply run it after installation and it will figure out and install if there are any missing DX components.
Depending on when you last played there is a good chance since then that along the way an update here might be needed.
Might need to restart PC after, then go to the simpleconfig.exe in the game folder and verify/repair and see if that does anything. After which restart the game, let it load up if you still seeing the blankness, leave it 5 mins to see if things appear.
Are you using Nvidia card or ATI?
Sorry it is not happening for you off the bat, just trying to help out.
Weird stuff. I never heard of anyone having this problem before. Please let us know if and when you find out what caused your problem.

Well, I'm new to this game, but have not encountered any problems in the way you describe.
Biggest problem I've encountered is being killed by other players (being on a pvp server), but the best medicine has been killing them back. Feels good to get even

This will have to do with your drivers. I actually had this same issue before and I solved it by updating the drivers or switching driver versions.
