I like the idea, is it worth it?

This game sounds, interesting. Just watching it leaves me nostalgic for my sega. So here's some of my questions,

  • How does it play?
  • Does it have towns?
  • Where's the multi-player action?
  • Is there character depts? (Change of Avatar's, clothing, weapons)
  • Party systems?
  • Quests?

Please and thank you.

Played - M59, EQOA, EQ, EQ2, PS, SWG[Favorite], DAoC, UO, RS, MXO, CoH/CoV, TR, FFXI, FoM, WoW, Eve, Rift, SWTOR, TSW.
Playing - PS2, AoW, GW2

I'll try to answer your question from what I experienced through my Priest and Gunner

    • DFO plays a lot like other action mmo's (e.g. Lunia, Dragonica, etc.) except it is unique in that you can activate skills by doing a button combination similar to a 2D fighting game.  For instance, one skill might require you to hit "right, right, x" to activate while another will require you to hit "right, down, space".  Everything except for towns are instanced much like Lunia.  Compared to Lunia, combat feels faster and more fun.
    • Yes, there are several towns in DFO and this is the main place you can interact with the other players
    • I haven't tried out the PVP yet but I do know that you can create parties with people in town and friends and play a map together.
    • The only way I know of that you can change a character's appearance is through the item shop.  When equipping new weapons, the new weapon model will show up in your toon's hands.  If you're like me and are nitpicky about whether or not equipping new armor will change your avatar, then you should try Dragonica.
    • I haven't partied but from what I can tell you gain extra experience when going through a map with a party.
    • There are plenty of quests in DFO that give good amounts of xp and decent rewards.  They vary from usual mmo fair such as "collect # of x" and "kill # of x"  to more arcade style quests such as "beat map under x amount of time", "beat map while only getting hit x times", and "beat map with x grade or better".  The latter quests are more fun and add replayability to the maps.

Other things you might wanna know:

    •  I believe there is crafting in DFO also, although I have yet to figure that out.
    • In fact, there isn't a lot of explanations for most of the things in the game.  I have a hard time figuring out whats the difference between style and technic points, what the percentages mean, how to improve my grade on a map, how crafting works, where to repair  and upgrade gear, what upgrading does, etc.
    • I believe there is only one server but a LOT of channels.  The game is lagless so far.

It's a decent game, but maybe not as polished as Dragonica is, although I prefer DFO's art style. For me DFO is a nice mmo to play in short bursts, not for extended play.  It's definitely worth a try, especially if the screenshots look appealing to you.
