Aion is not too bad..but is not too good also...map design with narrow zones, very linear gameplay and some stuff i cant figure out makes the game boring...
Something is missing, and 4 y playing wow makes almost all mmos look bad...wow is still the most enjoyable..but im tired trying to find a new mmo..but they all suck...i mean i spent alot of money lately in mmos..nothing keeps me going...

Waiting on SWTOR, star trek, Mortal Online...
I personally believe you have hit the nail on the head with why so many people continue to play WoW. It's not that its the end all of MMOs, it's just the only one that doesn't suck in the past 4 years. One reason or another, every one that has come out in the time of WoW's reign, has had a flaw which caused the player base to go back to what they knew.
Personally I'm just kicking back in Fallen Earth right now and waiting on TSW to come out, if it ever does that is.
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
What I find curious is that some ppl actually believe what the OP said is true, lol
He exagerated in the 50% part. But the situation of the servers never lie.
As 60% of the people were logging on concurrenly in the first week (NCsoft source) you had queus with a server based capacity of around 180K players (12/12 * 7 K players).
The present day capacity is 14/18 * 7K players, so that means they can handle around 250K players concurrently at max load...
The sad problem is the oversampled rate of Aion Xfire players (300K sub based EVE is played 4 times less than Aion), so there is an oversampling of around 5K Aion FXire players out of the 11K present.
The game came now under 10K coming from 12K at the first full weekend ... (substracting the 5K fixed oversampling) that would mean a loss of 2 K Xfire players on 7 K real samples.
That would mean the usual 30% drop off just before the end of the free period.
30% is the usual drop in the first free month. So nothing unusual either.
The next big drop will come around the 3/4 months mark, usual ending at around 30% retention rate.
If the game has serious problems around that point it falls to War/Aoc pops (meaning around 10% of the intial burst).
If what you are saying was true, we'd be playing with gameguard right now. We are not. And this is just one thing among many additions done to the game due to western requests. Exp buffs is another one that is on test servers right now.
1.5 was supposed to provide additional PvE content and quests, which it did. The increased experience for quest was due to another patch. I think you're a bit mixed up.
From my understanding the game had PvE gaps that NCsoft wanted to address with the 1.5 patch. Whether they succeeded is another issue. I suppose that filling those gaps should have solved the need to grind mobs as the main method of gaining exp. This part they did not yet achieve. And due to this issue, they've been testing the updated exp through quests in the test servers.
Its getting close to octo 22nd and over 50% of the server is low and recommended, its bleeding of players...... Damn i was not suprised there.
I wonder how much of this relates to Anime-ish type flying characters. Most Western players appear to be comfortable with "feet-on-the-ground" Tolkienesque-type characters.
Some of these Eastern games are well-done, but a bit jarring, culturally-speaking. Were I to design an MMORPG, I think I would fit it to the market.
Just a guess, but I think the days of Tolken clones will be done for a while.
Seems more and more are just over that genre. I know my friends and I are.
Playing Fallen Earth, will check out Star Terk, and waiting for World of Darkness. If I ever see a pixeled Elf or Dwarf again it will be to soon.
I guess the server I am on, Ariel is a fluke then?
At 2 AM, I log in and get placed in channel 3 because #1 & #2 are full.
At primetime, I often get put in channel 4 or five.
There are tons of folks running around, and the gold spam has all but stopped. I am seeing less farm bots too.
50% loss could be because the bots are being reigned in and banned. As late as a few days ago, I would have to take about 3 minutes after logging on to black the spammers. Today, I blocked one. Just one.
To be sure, the newness is wearing off and there will be a loss of players as the billing cycle comes around. That is normal. However, the sky is not falling in Aion.
I'm following one of these common "will you subscribe?"-polls in another Aion community-forum. The longer the poll runs, the more the option "i will give it 1 month" climbs. As of now, it went up from about 20% to 40%+.That 1 month is almost done and i can imagine very well that this 40% may somehow show up in retention, now that these days more and more players reach the 30s and hit the grindwall. Of course one has to keep in mind that the users of any forums are only a small part of the overall playerbase and may not represent the majority.
NCSoft didn't do enough to adjust the game to the western market...but i also think that they didn't aim for more than about 300k-350k over here and planned to keep the heavy focus on the asian market anyway.
It's amazing how on these boards you can post the most ridiculous made-up crap and instead of questioning the veracity of the information people will instantly argue against it.
What are the ranges for low,.recommended and full?
Is 'recommended' good or bad?
7AM EST - Oceanic server (it's primetime for them) is full, all others recommended. We can post these all day, but without knowing what range recommended is, there's no way to form any realistic assessment of concurrent users. Is Low under 100? Under 500? Under 1000? Is Full at 1000? 2000? 3000? Of course this will prompt troll math so expect a post soon where someone picks their favorite fictional number and formulates their server pop figures from it.
But, seriously, people really need to consider the source or at least question the veracity of a statement before arguing for or against it.

Doesnt really suprise me if the game does drop. The game is good, but its a bit to slow on to get to the pvp side of things. For all that WAR failed on, being able to pvp from lvl 1 was one of my favorite features.
I unsubbed because i just cant do a game with a heavier leveling curve anymore, and I ended up not liking the class I picked and the prospect of rerolling and getting back to where I was is depressing.
I actually liked tabula rasa, and if given the choice, I would pay for TR instead of Aion. The good thing with Ncsoft is that they gave me Aion ce edition free cause i subscribed to TR till the end.
TR was a good game it just lacked a Endgame something that should have been developed more before it ever released.
I'm assuming the ranking is High>Low>Recommended. I have no idea what numbers they represent and never did say what numbers they represent.
There is no high>low>recommended
There is simply high, because their goal is to have all servers full, so, when a server goes a bit down from high, it immediatly appears recommended, theres no mid term

Yes, you are correct. NCSoft created Halloween just to keep subs.

Yep i believe in the 30% loss

I'm already level 35 and i play maybe 3 hours a day if im lucky. The game is far far from the grind that people had in lineage II.
From my understanding the game had PvE gaps that NCsoft wanted to address with the 1.5 patch. Whether they succeeded is another issue. Doesn't surprise me.
This is why I didn't buy Aion.
You guys should try Chronicles of Spellborn, it went F2P because of bad advertising and the zones are beautiful!
Please do not hype any gam.. oh wait, nevermind... forgot what forum I was on.
