A while back(5-6 months), I had read an interview on Kim, the CEO of ncsoft and his plans for future games.
The newest title mentioned, was Lineage 2, though future releases were also spoken about, including idea's for Guild Wars.
Kim stated that Guild Wars was to be the future of MMO's, in quite a few different ways, he said.
One of which being, that the game economy would be built up of International/national currency,
since there was such a market for it, especially in the US.
What this means, is... buying weapons and armor will actually end up on your credit card statement, as we will have to pay in USD for items we purchase.
Has anyone else read this article? this was a while ago, so I can't be certian the the fact still stands.

No, I did not read that.
And I doubt they'd have more than a handful of players if they do something like that. Monthly fee for most games is one thing, directly paying to be uber is a totally different, and will keep the casual gamers 100% out of the game, which will result in the game having 98% less customers than without such costs.
Imagine the lost money through the loss of sold game-boxes -> they are not gonna risk that...
