I'd say DDO, LOTRO is a close second.   I'm tired of developers making boring games out of great IPs in general.  I wish I could say I'm done with major IP based games all together, but I know I would be lying if i said that.

not games, but PEOPLE! those oldskoolers who act like grampy old mans afraid of tecnology "whut auction houses? in my old sness vietnam wars we used to stay under the rain of bullets in the middle of nowhere holding our merchindise so everybody could gank us and steal all our merchandise who made us nerdrage quit the game to never go back, that was 'fun'" kind of ppl =p

    now: GW2 (11 80s).
    Dark Souls 2.
    future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
    "Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

I would take it a step further and actually destroy an entire company... NCsoft. Unfortunately in the process Guild Wars would probably be lost but it is an acceptable loss as NCsoft is such a garbage company. It would prolly save the MMO community a few hundred dollars as well as half the MMO's they make are shut down within a year.

Also the West would be spared from current and future Asian F2P games in disguise as P2P titles which only take the genre in the opposite direction it should be headed.

    I'd destroy DAoC.

The game was once amazing and perfect.

Now it's nothing more than a bunch of old tired 43 year old elitists whose community is so small that if you get blacklisted on one character, that character is OUT of the entire game.

I was blacklisted because I grouped with a 13 year old (literally) who was really radical, immature, and energy. Of course, np he's a kid. Well, he "loved me" and thought I was "the coolest!" within 1 hour. After 2 hours of grouping with him, I said a small remark such as "Well, I don't think [insert character name] is that cool, she was kindof a jerk to me." (The women in question did not know me, as I thought she was a jerk based on her attitude towards my group once, and I never said anything but "Thx, cya later!" so she had no opinion of me.)

Well.. he went BALLISTIC. He started screaming at me saying how perfect she was, and how she is never a jerk and i must have "deserved it". I tried to get him to calm down to no avail. He began to threaten me and "telling on me" and so I logged out.

When I logged in, I was kicked out of my guild. I asked the guild leader why, and he said that [she] told me (and ALL guilds) to blacklist me. I forgot the reason why, but it was something along the lines of I'm a "bad person". I messaged her maturely asking what was going on, and found out the 13 year old DID in fact "tell" on me. I have no idea what he told her, but within a few hours not only did I see all kinds of highschool drama (which I didn't partake in. I tried to maturely and rationally reason and humiliatingly apologize citing it must have been "just a misunderstanding.")

I figured that perhaps he said I did something I did not do. I told her "I didn't steal kills, trick him, or scam anything from him." and she responded "I know you didn't do anything like that. He told me you called me a jerk and was very rude to him." She actually fully acknowledged that the only thing I did was say she was a jerk. She didn't care though.

Well, she had no mercy. I don't know if she was cyber-pediphiling this kid or what- but that SINGLE line of  "She's not that cool dude, she was a jerk to me." and logging off (voiding any defense on my part) set off a huge backlash which resulting in me being banned from my guild.

Well... I tried the next 8 days to find a new guild. I got "accepted" in to about four which didn't immeditely respond with "Sorry, you're blacklisted. I don't know why, but they're telling me not to allow you in." The three which said "Sure, we welcome new members!" all replied a few tells later with "Oh... sorry... you're blacklisted. I apologize, but there is nothing I can do. Guilds are hard to keep together and I can't invite someone who might destroy what is already very hard to keep together."

I got in one guild- and didn't say anything besides "Thanks! :)" after the guild "Welcome!" and within an hour got a tell from the guild leader saying "Sorry, I just found out you're blacklisted, we have to let you go."

I couldn't believe it. One small "Sorry dude, I disagree, I don't like her." got me banned from every guild. It also made me feel like a leper. If you can't get a guild in DAoC, you might as well just not play. You need a guild. I felt humiliated, hated, and completely shunned. I am not a sensitive person, but it actually kindof hurt to be so rejected that guild after guild refused to have me.

When I couldn't find a guild after 8 days, I messaged the women again. I sobbed to her how I couldn't find a guild, and it was really hurting me and ruined my game experience. I tried apologizing and responding "Come on, can't we all just get along? :)" sucking up... and her reply?

"That's what you get for calling ME a jerk. You don't know who you messed with. Ignored."

Apparently I didn't know who I messed with. I never imagined a single guild leader could have so much pull in the community, but it's possible when the community is so small. All the guild leaders know each other. The only guilds that would accept me were PURE PvE guilds, which there were only one or two.

I've never met someone so heartless or sensitive either. She took pride and joy in the fact she destroyed my ability to play the game (PuG's suck, so guilds are really important in DAoC.) A 13 year old with the ability to make a very popular guild leader ban anyone he wishes...wow.

I had to stop playing Midgard because of that, and go back to Albion.

Albion never had this problem. Guilds would be more apt to hate each other and would say "LOL, well good! You pissed her off? WELCOME TO OUR GUILD! We hate her too!"

That alone is worthy of destroying DAoC. Let alone the million things the Developers did to destroy the game.

How about we keep all the games and just have a team of devs on each game to go through mmo forums, figure out who the trolls are, and permaban them? :D

And I already said one but I am adding in Ultima Online after it tried to go "3d". It looked ridiculous, even by that days standards.

The bull that was and is corpse runs. harsh death penalties, boring raids that take hours and hours, and you need a military drill instructor to scream directions out to the rest of the robots that fight like puppets.
Take away the majority of the things in EQ people did not like and you get...the game that must not be named in this thread:)
Take out EQ and we may have gotten a UO type game with millions of people playing.. just saying:)

Are you serious? ... Did you raid demiplane or GoD.

Everquest was the only game where over 100 people came together to kill 1 mob in PVE. You call that boring because you might have to wait 2 minutes for someone and you need to organise it.....WELL.....you think?....how else do you suggest doing such raids?

The grind and corpse runs were somewhat true, but most were too busy having fun to mind the grind, the corpse runs were probably your only point. But that's why you had clerics and that's why people grouped in the first place, to avoid corpse runs.

If you would have said that the game was addictive, grindy and you are against that in principle, I probably would have agreed with you to some extent, but then that's a general MMO issue, since WoW is just as grindy as EQ.

You can certainly make an argument that Eve is a TOY rather than a GAME.  This isn't really saying something negative about Eve.  If you take the time to look in to the distinction between the two, you'd see why some people feel that Eve is more a toy than a game.  basically a game defines your goals, where a toy needs you to define them yourself.... ie, a deck of cards  is a toy, poker is a game you play with them.

It seemed so great because it was new, and there was nothing -better- or like it at the time.

I find it dificult after reading this to believe the drama was not of your own creation.

Definitely WoW, and not for the reasons most would think. To save the WORLD!

Imagine 11+ million people who hadn't literally wasted the last 5 years of their free time sitting in a chair, each and every night and twice on weekends. Could you imagine the loss to the GDP of each and every country that game was released in? How much improvement to their homes and yards they could have done? How many relationships/marriages got into trouble or died over the abusive amounts of time they played it? Not to mention the health issues caused by it, a near 30% jump in weight related health problems in every country it has been in in the past 5 years. Sure fast food had some to do with that, but seriously, sit in chair for 5 hrs a day and 10 hrs a day on the weekends or...go outside and ride a bike!

What WoW did that was so terrible isn't what it did to the gamers and/or the gaming industry, it was what it did to the people who played it. Now I know tons out there who play it, and some will tell me I'm crazy for saying it, but let me ask you this one question - what did you accomplish over the past 5 years in your real life? And you can't answer with anything that has to do with a game. Seriously, anything productive...can you even think of anything? Or have you been sitting there for the past 5 minutes just trying to think of an answer?

Blizzard created a marketing environment for WoW which encouraged millions of players to sit in a stupor in front of their computers for years like they were taking drugs, and to some extent you could even say WoW is a drug from the effect it has had on society. And for that alone WoW SHOULD be destroyed!

(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)

I think the consoles are much more detrimental than WoW for that matter. At least in WoW people type and interract with NPC. Xbox and PS3 players just shout stupidity at each other.

Btw, studies have shown that MMO players are rather healthy, less fat than the average american even.

Albion never had this problem. Guilds would be more apt to hate each other and would say "LOL, well good! You pissed her off? WELCOME TO OUR GUILD! We hate her too!"

That alone is worthy of destroying DAoC. Let alone the million things the Developers did to destroy the game.

I cannot beleive I was sucked in by the wall-o-text above.  Perhaps you could have summarized by saying "I was unhappy with the community after being being removed from a guild and then blacklisted due to a misunderstanding."

I find it dificult after reading this to believe the drama was not of your own creation.

    1) I find it difficult after experiencing this to believe it even happened.

It could not have been due to "my creation" based solely on the fact that I limited my responses to perhaps one or two /tells saying specific quotes I can actually remember.

Believe whatever you want, if you don't have the faith to believe that stuff like this happens to mature, innocent people, then oh well. It happens all the time regardless if you believe it or not. There are many overly sensitive, dramatic people in charge of guilds who will take even the smallest thing and make it a big deal just to feel special. The 13 year old also might have been her son, which would explain why such drastic actions were taken. I have met many mothers on WoW which have become extremely vicious to people at the sheer mention of anything happening to their child.

    2) I don't have to summarize a story if I want to share the entire story. It's an absolutely ridiculously dramatic story well worth sharing just for the sheer "Wow... I can't believe that happen... LoL!"

The OP asked for a reason why, and saying "I was unhappy with the community because of a misunderstanding." doesn't even come close to describing such confusing, weird sequence of events. If I had anymore to do with the situation than saying "I disagree, she was a jerk to me." then the story obviously wouldn't be worth sharing, as a situation where I brought it upon myself would just be a lame story, not a "Wtf? lol wow she must've been crazy. I've met some psycho guild leaders in my time too, lol!" story.

I can understand why you would have a hard time believing it because people often exagerate one-sided stories, but some times unbelievable stuff actually does happen. Have some faith in your fellow human beings for god's sake! Not everyone is a liar.

Next time you want to complain about someone sharing a story being too long, you might want to start by not reading it at all. No one forced you to read any of it. Unless it was the evil monkey....

Many consider it boring, which I can understand, even though I love the game. Claiming that it is not a game just makes you sound like a fool.

I agree with Salvatoris with reguards to something being called a toy instead of a game not being an insult in any way. For some reason his name eludes me, but the creater of Spore said at some point even that it was more of a toy than a game, because of the amount of freedom it offered I believe. I think I would have to go for the toy mmo instead of the game mmo now everytime I get the choice, because I am able to find ways to make my own fun, so give me the freedom and let me play.

thing is practically none of the new mmo's would have been out if WoW didn't take mmo's into the mainstream and prove that its profitable.

My pick would have to be SWG the game sucked the moment it was installed

You can't say that WoW is the only reason new MMO's are coming out. You know there were a lot of MMO's before WOW that were profitable?  Take EQ or UO for example. They set the bar for MMO's. I think at one point EQ had 1 million sub's which was unheard of at that time. Those were both profitable MMO's. But I'll agree that WoW brought MMO's into mainstream (unfortunately) by means of South Park...and other intellegent advertising- this in turn attracted a huge teenage playerbase that I'd rather do without.. Until WoW it was mainly college students and bored blue collar workers (and me at 11 and I know I was more mature back then than most teenagers on WoW currently), but MMO's as a genre would still exist and prosper with or without the WOW machine.

I think the consoles are much more detrimental than WoW for that matter. At least in WoW people type and interract with NPC. Xbox and PS3 players just shout stupidity at each other.

Btw, studies have shown that MMO players are rather healthy, less fat than the average american even.

And the average MMO gamer is asian...they are typically less obese- btw 78% of statistics are made up on the spot, but this one isn't I can prove it's 100% true.

I would destroy EQ1 so that it never existed. Then, UO would be the "template" for all future MMOs.
