very nice! i hope they start selling other items! I will be the first in line spending and making sure they make enough money to continue that service!

You can tell, Blizzard is getting tired of all the China crap. They went as far as to put in the Panadarn people. (note: They were the original race, supose to be added in Cat X-pac, but was replaced by Goblins for Horde)

Dear players of games by SOE, Cryptic and whatever asina means.

The companies managing your games suck.

Blizzard already charges for so many things that are not needs. Like faction/race/sex/what ever changes and a TCG that gives benefits to players INGAME (like EQ) and others that i cant rememeber and im to lazy to look up.  They have so many things to sell that I am suprised this is making a uproar.  I dont see what the big deal is with RMT that lets someone buy pots and cosmetic stuff. Now if you pay $200 and get full raid gear and a maxed out char then we have a problem. Also as long as a EXP pot is only +50%  its not a big deal. Rest exp is more then that.

I'm personally boycotting SC2 because I don't want to contribute to the downfall of the gaming market. If SC2 takes off with those sales being like that... it's going to spread like a plague throughout the gaming world. Who the hell wants to pay $150 for 1 single game?

"What is the StarCraft II Trilogy?

The StarCraft II Trilogy consists of the base StarCraft II game and two subsequent expansion sets. StarCraft II is subtitled Wings of Liberty (working title) and will include a lengthy single-player campaign that focuses on the terrans and puts players in the role of Jim Raynor, one of the series' main heroes. The first expansion set, Heart of the Swarm (working title), will follow later and include a single-player campaign focusing on the zerg and Kerrigan, Queen of Blades. The second expansion set, Legacy of the Void (working title), will continue the story experience with a single-player campaign centered on the protoss."

Basically..................... they are selling you the EXACT same game...... 3 times.

Yep. They have already announced there will be a premium version of B.net.

Subscription-only services are dying... this is the next step for them to increase profit... and in some cases save themselves.

It's completely uncomparable. How much did it cost your bank to make / protect and use the digital storage system? Prolly a lot.

How much did it cost Blizzard to make that pet? 200$?

RMT is distributed as this thin air, it doesn't have value but entices players to give in, often through peer pressure, game addiction or people are forced to participate to have access to all the content.

It's not about whether it was comparable... it was happening. IS happening.

Everyone in the world is offering extras... either in physical goods, or extra warranties from Best-Buy.

Blizzard hops on with everyone else and people get upset. Hell, the rest of the MMO industry was already considering it.

DLC? Dragon Age shipped with a few extra already available for purchase.

    Which I do enjoy...

Pretty soon you won't be able to go to a popular restaurant without them trying to sell you fast-track seating.

Oh yeah, Fast-track seating... the airlines... want to go over them too?

I hope you realize that some people really enjoy collecting pets and questing for them.  Not everything in an mmo is about the stats on your character sheet.

Open your mind a little bit.

As for it being "just a pet store"..... for now it is.  The mere presence of a cash shop opens the game up to an infinate amount of possibilities.  This is grooming my friend.   Vanity items only sell for so long.

SOE ruined vanguard:saga of hereos with RMT. couldnt like ncsoft get the hands on it instead and vanguard:SoH would be a hit.

Still it was unfinished before that and its still unfinished a bit.

No, it's principle. They are taking your money in ways that they have already stated are illegal according to their rules. They are breaking their own rules to make an extra buck. So no, it's not cool.

It would be fine if it was maybe a limited time and all went to charity, but only half of the proceeds from one of the pets do. This seems to simply be a way to pull in a full cash shop to a pay to play, which is a bad business practice when you've already renounced it.

LiquidWolf, gaming is not an airline, gaming is not shipping. Gaming is it's own business practice and has it's very own customs and rules-of-society that other forms of media and... well, you're comparing it to an insurance company, so I guess any other thing need not abide by. You must understand this, developers must understand this. Gaming is something unique, it can let you experience things that you never would before. Which means that it should not take after airlines, or movie cinemas. It needs to make it's place in the economy, and RMT on top of a subscription is not the way to do it.

You would have a good point if they released all three at the same time, that would force the fans to buy all three just to have all the game content, something Blizzard are not actually doing. What we are talking is three expansions over possibly a couple of years. That is nothing abnormal, so I would buy and play the game if any good myself. Also, if the game is a success it may force Blizzard to move beyond WoW, which is getting pretty old in most gamers eyes now.

It's everywhere. A greedy plague. Even seeing it in Dragon Age. I about crapped my pants when i installed it and noticed two dungeons for sale........

Same thing happened when i bought sims 3. Noticed how lackluster the in game item selection was only to find out that they have an item mall to purchase stuff.

Just like the warning lables on cigarettes, i think it should be required to put a big old blaring note on games that keep in game stuff out of game unless you pay for it.

I am not talking about services like sever switches or name changes, but things in games.

    It's all smeds fault.

And what are you gonna do?  Hmm..?  Quit playing?  Give up MMOs forever?  Wait for that one 'special' game that will change the genre, and be the holy grail you all have been waiting for?  That perfect game that you'll be playing from here until...the next expansion, or sequel.

    Please.

Fans of this genre have been playing the same damn game since EQ1, just reskinned, recolored, revamped, and it's been going on for a decade.  These companies feed you guys crap, and you gobble it up and ask for seconds.  Because you're addicted.  It's the truth.  People will pay $60 for a piece of recycled garbage like Aion, yet get all huffy and indignant about Blizzard selling a little bear that follows characters around.  It's pathetic, really.

Don't feel bad though, I'm just as addicted as anyone.  Hell, I'm not even subscribed to any MMOs right now, yet I come here, several times a day, in the vain hope that I'll hear some blurb about some game that might hold my interest for more than a week.  But I just do not grasp the righteous fury that some people get over crap like this.  You pay $15 a month, to sit in a chair, repeately clicking buttons to make a little character on a screen do silly little moves, for hours if not days at a time, and you want people to take any of us seriously?  Hamsters have more interesting passtimes than a lot of the games people pay to play on this site.

So just save the rage, it's hollow and weak, just like this genre has become.

It's not priciple, it's semantics. They are not selling "in game" items, they are selling "cash shop" items. As far as I know you can not obtain these pets in the game, but only by purchasing them from this new cash shop. If they start selling current season Arena Gear in the cash shop, then they will be breaking their own rule.

For everyone else panicking over the current wave of MMOs that are offering items or services for real money, don't play those games, support those companies, or (certainly) buy anything from their cash shops. The only way they will continue is if people use them and the companies make revenue from them. They will stop offering those services if they make them no money.

As far as I'm concerned, I really don't care. Not at this point. I'm not going to buy either of those stupid pets, but I'm also not the kind of player who goes around trying to get all kinds of pets in the game, either. Even if they put XP pots in the cash shop, I wouldn't care. What's the tangible difference between that and the friend thing where I could go out and buy a second box so I can get the Zherva mount and XP bonus and gift other toons with a bunch of level? Was there outrage at that? Don't you think Blizzard knew damn well that a lot of people would take advantage of that?

If they start selling top Tier items or top Arena gear in the cash shop, I'll cancel my subscription and stop playing. If they start charging for Battle.net on top of the World of Warcraft subscription, I'll cancel my subscriptiong and stop playing.

    Blizzard =/= SOE.

Just because Blizzard decides to sponsor an event for charity does not mean that they suddenly will follow SOE's example. That's your poor assumption with no evidence whatsoever.
