thinking of trying the game

So yea i'm pretty much done with the conventional mmo, i played wow for just over 4 years. Got bored of it, and i've been trying to fill that void ever since, i played WAR/AoC/Aion each just didn't hold my interest for a variety of reasons.

So now i'm thinking maybe i'm just sick of the same mmo, and i'd like to try something different. I was considering either this game or Darkfall. Anyone have suggestions if you've played them both?

humm i waited many months for darkfall to come out read many forum posts and tried for the first few days when it came out to get the game. After about 4 days i gave up after seeing vids of a game that did not look much fun and bad reviews, but now after the media hype has calmed down it appears to be ok and i like you am considering playing it from the look of it some people love it a LOAD of people dont so very speciallist might try it and see if i fit there niche.

i thought age of conan was ment to be new and exciting...

You forgot to mention the other game I think.

It's a ruff start with Darkfall. Just be prepared for that if you go with it. If you sign up with NA-1 you can join the NEW clan for 30 days and get tonnes of help.

"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb

Just remember DF is completely different experience then WoW!

No xp, no levels, no classes and no quets*.....its up to you instead!

    * There are quests, but not in te same way as in WoW.

Also - Remember that Darkfull is full loot.

If you die, you lose everything, unless you get to your body before someone else does.

Example:  Your out harvesting resources for an hour, about to turn and head back to town when 3 people ride up on mounts and kill you.  They take all your gear/items, as well as your freshly harvested resources.

I love it, absolutely love it, but it's not for everyone. The first time you play you'll notice that the controls feel awful, like fingers on a chalkboard awful. I've come around to thinking it's designed well, but it took a long time for me to get the feel for the controls.

The biggest part of that hate I had was for the swapping of interface to combat mode. I believe it's initially right click. So at first you'll want to do something and click to get it, then try to swing and nothing happens. This of course always happens just when you need to act fast. For me at least it just becomes 2nd nature.

The start of the game is just there, you'll get a quest or two that'll lead you to a few more and they set you loose. Nobody adds a glowing icon to lead you to another area, that's appropriately your level. This is good for freedom, but bad for entertainment. You have to decide where to go, and what to do. I know I've gotten frustrated before by this lack of having something to do, and somewhere new to go. To enjoy this game you have to self-motivate to go out and do things and enjoy. This is where a clan is huge. If you have one the collective group can usually figure something to do.

The last thing I'd say to a new player is to grind later, at the start just enjoy for a bit. You're almost certainly going to die, just know that every time you get hit you raise defense, vitality and strength and you'll be stronger the next time you fight. Dying does get you something.
