That was lot of stuff. This expansion is looking better and better with each update.
Wildlife AI sounds to be much more complicated than I had originally thought it would be. Hunting will actually end up being really entertaining. Can't wait to test out these new AI monsters too. From the article...
" The first thing that they stressed is that the monsters have been rebalanced in such a way that now, players will need to use a variety of tactics, depending on what they are fighting, to be victorious. To be more specific, monsters will now have different weaknesses and strengths that players will need to figure out. Some examples of this diversification of the monsters include skeletons being more resistant to piercing damage while being very susceptible to bludgeoning damage and fire elementals being next to immune to fire damage while ice damage will do the job a lot better."
Sounds awesome.
EDIT: @Parrot....yes brilliant idea, DF needs a test server. Hasn't exactly hurt CCP.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
The PVE is lacking even though right now the AI is far superior to any other mmorpg ive ever played, even in today's version....if DF ends up having the best PVE besides having the best PVP i'l be laughing my ass off.
I'm glad Darkfall is finally looking like the game it should be. A great place for the hardcore PvP crowd to find exciting PvP.
But of course I still chuckle how at all the fanboys who are brainwashed into calling a patch an "expansion".
Dude can we just discuss the update?
Maybe not decompose every damn thread.

Who gives a fuck if it adds more interesting stuff then a typical expansion of a MMO game ? I rather stay with DF patches then WoW expansions. Another bunch of "exciting" quests, items, levels to grind and some instances. Yay !

Seriously GTFO my sandbox.
So we've Wildlife, updates to the PvE, and an AI overhaul to supplement the greatest PvP game in existence! My problem would be: why on earth are they putting so much effort into PvE if the game is supposed to be PvP-centric? It's not too long ago that DF fans rebuked any "DF PvE sucks" argument by saying PvE is not what makes DF interesting, and now you've all suddenly changed your mind and PvE is the reason this 'expansion' (read: random collocation of bug fixes and implementation of generic game features) is awesome?

You haven't read the expansion notes, have you? Or do you not care? Wildlife AI is anything but generic. The only other MMO I've seen with similar AI is Ryzom. When you've got wildlife that acts like real wildlife and adds a new dimension to harvesting and crafting, then it's not generic.
Mobs will be immune to certain kinds of damage based on what kind of mob they are. This isn't ground-breaking, but it also isn't common. Again Ryzom has it, along with a few other MMOs I've tried.
I'm new to DFO, but I've already posted in another thread that DFO can't survive on PvP only. You need to have a world built up around it and real reasons for the PvP. This is a strong point of EVE and why it's slowly but steadily growing. DFO needs something like this too or it will die.
Current: None Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

In my experience PVE and the players that enjoy it can be a huge necessitty in a PVP game. My hope with Darkfall is that it eventually develops an economy similar to EVE's. In this case all of the hunters/gatherers/crafters become essential to drive the economy by keeping the PVP'ers constantly supplied and equipped.
The game could appeal to different types of players as the game ages.
Aging can include evolving you know?

Why is it so difficult for some people to understand that Darkfall is a MMORPG. The DF devs have said for years that calling it a PvP MMO is to sell it short!
There is everything as in any other MMO in Darkfall. The FFAPvP is nothing special when you are in the game....its just as natural as everything else.
So if you want to hunt animals in a MMO....you can try and do that. And that is what some players will do for living. Some players dont even see PvP, they do other stuff. Stuff as they cant do in any other MMO.
I'm glad Darkfall is finally looking like the game it should be. A great place for the hardcore PvP crowd to find exciting PvP.

First I never said that DF is supposed to be PvP centric game I personally always expected something more from it and it was/is always visible in my posts in DF's suggestion section.
Second those of DF players who use the "this is a PvP centric game" argument have no idea what potential this game has, most of them are mini-maxers stroking their e-penises over who "owned" who. They are narrow-minded and are not interested in anything which is not releated to pvp.
Third even with no focus on PvE Darkfall's AI is much better then any other MMO ever released.
Forth all changes have the important role of making DF more immersive and enjoyable game which offers entertaiment for people of various play styles, hopefully that trend will continue.
The fifth and foremost basing on your post, you seem to have no knowledge whatsoever about features of incoming expansion.
I'm not arguing on whether the expansion is of a considerable size or not (and you are indeed correct in assuming I have not taken the time to look into what this expansion has to offer) but with a topic title like this, you can hardly blame me for assuming these are the main features of the expansion (which, if they are, is disappointing at best, if you ask me). Furthermore, I am also not arguing that DF should be PvP-centric and no attention should be given to PvE. I'm just wondering why DF fans first seem to turn a blind eye to the lack of appropriate PvE, stating it's not what the game is about, and now that it's being implemented hail it as the greatest discovery since the introduction of the dishwasher.
That said, I really cannot agree on DF having superior AI to any other game, nor that intelligent wildlife is a big pre. Sure, it makes things more interesting, but, for one, it's certainly not unique to DF and Ryzom, and secondly, it would be an insult to the sandbox MMO to say that intelligent wildlife is a trademark of the genre.
The game is supposed to be a sandbox. The huge amount of dissatisfied players they were making sure to please first were the hardcore pvp players. However, a sandbox is supposed to have more than just pvp. IF the devs can make a game that people will be happy to play FOR the pve(and you may consider nonaggro mobs that you hunt separate from pve)... then the pvpers have more people to kill, the existence of true anti clans is more likely to occur(blues who kill reds if you dont know), and the population in general goes up. Not to mention varied pve adds to world diversity and creates new hotspots around spawns, or at least alternative methods of using spawns that aren't seen of as as good as others. Also, the diversity in goals in the world means people can choose their own focus and probably enjoy rping more which brings another whole crowd to the game.
All in all, pve content enriches the game and if they are starting to find a good pvp balance they can't add too much without pissing people off so they want to work on improving other parts of the world at the same time.

Exaggerate much? You lump the entire DFO community into a bucket that fits your pre-conceived notion. Not everyone was turning a blind eye to there be a lack of PvE elements. The hardass PvPers were, but not many others. Those that were looking for the old UO feel have been asking for this for a long time.
Next you make it sound like we're all hyperventilating because some PvE elements are being added. From what I can tell people are happy and excited, but you make it sound like everyone's gone gonzo about it. Why shouldn't the community get excited about this announcement? It will breathe new life into the game they enjoy playing.
I'm sorry, I've played my fair share of MMOs, and none besides Ryzom (and soon DFO) have the wildlife AI they're describing. If they do it right, it will greatly increase the atmosphere of the game world. It will make it feel much more like a real world.
In Ryzom, wildlife herd together. They migrate and sleep. They protect each other, if one gets attacked others come to its aid. There are predator animals that also run in packs and hunt other animals and you. Most MMOs' mob AI is pathetic. You can pick mobs out of a herd one at a time. They don't roam very far, or migrate or sleep or protect each other. They're just dumb fodder. There's no challenge. No thinking involved. They're just another harvesting node.
And who is saying wildlife AI is a trademark of the sandbox genre? I didn't. Only that it adds a whole lot to the game and makes it much more enjoyable, different and challenging.
Sounds to me like you've just got your panties in a wad because a nice expansion is coming out and people are getting excited about it. Why do you even care how people react to it?

Wow, nice wildlife AI updates! Sounds similar to Ryzom's which is one its unique features and one of my favorite things about it.
If they pull this off correctly, it will rock my socks off as well as a lot of other people.
