Has the game launched in the US, like can I buy it with out having to wait for the shop to open or w/e and be able to play on the US server? Will I be able to buy and DL the game tonight?
How much does the game cost?
I recall hearing that skill grinding is worse than leveling in EQ, is this true or rubbish?
Is the UI going to be a nightmare, or for that matter any other glaring aspects of the game that are problematic I should know about?
My favorite mmos are AO and EVE, so I can deal with pvp, some quirks, and just ok graphics. I want to try this game tonight, so any info is much appriciated.

Yes DFO has launched in North America with the server NA-1, you can go here to download and purchase it click how much does it cost? I think about $50 although you can download the client for free the account and first month is about (not sure of NA price exactly) $50.
Never played EQ so can't answer that.
UI is satisfactory in my opinion and easier to use than the last MMORPG I played (AoC), certainly not a nightmare in my opinion.
You can read my thread of my first 24 hours in DFO click my best advice is get into a clan ASAP there is a clan called NEW on EU and NA servers that will teach you the ropes for your first month if you don't want to make any commitments early on.

I just picked up the game tonight, and the first thing you'll need to know is there's a lot to take in and possibly edit in terms of the UI/controls to fit your playstyle. Take the time to tailor it to your needs before you go off getting your ass kicked by goblins; they hurt and team up!
Edit: I also was ganked for my first time about an hour into playing. Some magic wielder chucking fireballs, but at least I took him down a few notches. He took my armor, but it really didn't phase me too much especially since he left my axe that I just bought. It was the most intense and adrenaline filled fight I've had in an RPG in years, even if it only lasted 1 minute or less. Hah.
Alright, $50 is steep, but I guess it standard fair so what am I complaining about? Any word or rumor on a free trial of DFO comming down the line, how old is DFO now any ways?
good advice and nice! welcome to darkfall
My blog:
costs 50 bux and includes a free month without having to set up a subscription
Alright, I think I might be giving DFO a try out. Question about the world size, I recall hearing that it would be the size of Ireland (like the real size of ireland), did this end up being the case? Would I be able to go explore for days on end before hitting a coast?
$50 but they are holding a special which is $50 + 6 months sub for $87 (you save 30%)
if your on foot, it takes ages to get from east coast to the westcoast, apart from the dangers that lurk :P, you can also sail with a selfmade ship. i don't think its the actual size of ireland, but the world is huge, HUGE. when i wanted to trade with someone, i was in the dwarven capital, and the trader was in the human capital, he said it would take half an hour for him to get to me, i was like lol don't you have a mount? but he did have a mount, just a long ride ^^.
other ppl can kill your mounts and hunt you down, you can do the same, and with the new expansion coming up youll be accompied by wildlife on your travels (moozes, squirrels etc. etc...)
I'm not certain of the exact size of DFO, the only games I've played with larger non instanced worlds are WW2online and Dark & Light. The map is very big and there is alot of exploration with underground cave systems, caverns, valleys and mountains. The map is really big and there is months of exploration to be had in my opinion!

depends on where you start, but if you are mounted, it takes approx 20-30 mins of a stright shot from one coast to the other. Walking/spritinging around it could take days. Also, the world is huge. Its something like 500km^2 land mass, not including the ocean
Games:
Currently playing:Nothing
Will play: Darkfall: Unholy Wars
Past games:
Guild Wars 2 - Xpiher Duminous
Xpiher's GW2
GW 1 - Xpiher Duminous
Darkfall - Xpiher Duminous (NA) retired
AoC - Xpiher (Tyranny) retired
Warhammer - Xpiher

That sounds awesome. One last question, can any one give me some info on skilling up? Is it a really long laborous process? what's it like etc?
EDIT: Thanks below guy.
Skilling up is a pain during the first week. Aside from the first 2 spells you gain, all spells requires Reagants to cast. Those reagants can be dropped by monsters or by harvesting but it does take a while.
Anyway, small tip on skilling up:
Get Lesser Magic to 50 first
Get Archery to 25-35
Get Polearm to 25-35
Get Greater Magic to 25
Get Witchcraft to 75
Get Greater Magic to 50
Then follow your own path.
Note: When raising a "Skill", it is a good idea to use only the low ranked spells as they often require less reagants. (Reagants are only used for Magic)
This is a build most players I know have and are following as it is the most stable way to start out in DarkFall.
above guy means all spells use reagents not all skills btw
on grind: to max lvl in every skill char in DF is going to take years (no one even has achieved that). but its not the sort of game like wow where you need a max char. won't take you too long to make a competitive character. and darkfalls skills matter less than levels do in other mmo's. so generally I would say there is less grind in darkfall. depends on playstyle, some people just play some people just grind 24/7. plus killing mobs in a challenging/edgy game takes away alot of the feel of "grinding" for me.
My blog:
Awesome stuff, thank you madness. Since I can't afford to buy the game til tuesday, I figured i should ask a few more questions to get preped.
What are the racial advantages? I know they are slight, but I don't just mean what the game gives you; ie would being an Alfar make me a better sneaky type character because I am small, dark, and can see well at night?
Is one race more popular than other races? Are some races going to get me ganked/griefed more than other races?
Do some races have a higher proportion of d-bags and noob campers outside their cities than others?
There you go.
NEWborn on Agon
I've just trained 2h swords from 0 to 75 (75 is required to get "mastery" skill) during 6 hours. I've found mob that it's not too hard, not too easy, don't use ranged attack, and drop good loot. In the end I had 40000 gold and high level skill. Few times I had to run away from PKs - but otherwise it would be too boring :-)
During 3 months of playing I've raised archery almost to max (sharpshooter 86). I've never tried to "train" archery - I was just using it in PvE to get the stuff I need for enchanting. If you're using some skill in PvE, it will raise to high level in first 3 weeks, no matter if you're "grinding" it or not.
Leveling elemental magic from 0 to 50 takes 4 hours - if you have unlimited supply of reagents, or if you choose mobs that drop reagents you need. There is also some risk involved - because PKs know about every good spawn. And you're making a lot of noise casting spells.
Raising skills in DF feels completely different than in other games. If I have 86 sharpshooter, and other guy has 100 sharpshooter, there will be a lot of other, more important factors deciding outcome of combat than difference in character skills. One of us may have better aim, better bow, better food, better armor, may buff himself with "impetus", "agility", "guiding wind" or "arrow ward" spells - and so on.
There are few skills that require serious grinding, and give serious advantage in PvP - like having multiple schools of magic maxed, and Archmage skill. But they will be nerfed in this month expansion - so I don't feel like grinding them :-)
So I just started downloading DFO, and it's going to take a while... 9 hours.. oh well, I guess I'll do some reading while I wait. Wish me luck!
