My post is relevant because i wonder why they have so many problems with botters and goldspam..... You can't argue its not a big problem in all of the games ncsost has developed... Even the game they host has issues (GW) with massive item trading and gold sellers (out of game)
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.
There is also the conspiracy theory...erm....theory...
A certain game did extremely well in the MMO market, and it was thanks to it's timing, it's history in games (1, 2, 3 AND expansions) that not only did alot of people join, but they stayed - partially because it was the first MMO that 'everyone' seemed to want to play (although many of us left after a couple of months of walking). Couple that with a constant (and quite misleading) marketing campaign and the game grew immensely.
The golfers (gold farmers) steadily destroyed the economy before Blizzard really knew what was going on. Eventually, stuff that used to be a few silvers in WoW became a few gold, and the monstrously abused economy became the norm. Rather than combat this, a whole slew of people with no self-respect actually went and spent real money on virtual money.
However, this was good for WoW. People had spent more real money and any desire to leave swiftly became overshadowed by people who never realised that sometimes it's better to cut your losses.
Of course - many people do actually enjoy the game, and despite the first year of misery with idiots and the regular hassling of a**eholes who seem to define their personal status by challenging a level 10 to a duel with their excessively over-paid-for-level 80, WoW isn't doing too badly.
The elimination, or near-elimination of golfers wouldn't be all THAT difficult, but other game companies have decided that golfers are good for their economy, provided they're subtle and non-hassling enough that the players don't leave.
But that IS what has happened. Many, many people have left WoW because of the ruined economy, the tedium of golfer adverts and hassles and the self-righteousness urge to not support these scum (yeh, I'm one of the self-righteous). What the other game companies failed to realise is that those people who left were looking for a game that hadn't been 'ruined' (in their eyes) by golfers and their ilk.
The point with all this - how is related to the topic? I'm definitely suspicious of NCSoft's motives as regards to their games, and from everything I've heard about Aion they really tried the WoW tactic. There were silly amounts of adverts up EVERYWHERE for the game before it even came out, marketing ticked. The allowing of golfers to fill up the economy, need for stuff ticked.
NCSoft's best MMO was the Cryptic-made City of Heroes/Villains, which made influence/infamy so easy to get that people just played and enjoyed it. The farmers were farmers who were there to get their perceived glory more than anything, and (originally) the golfer market just wasn't there. It did grow a bit later on, but they just weren't worth it - it was too easy to get inf by playing.
So I don't have sympathy for NCSoft really. Once game developers/producers start actually thinking about their games and not seeing MMO-players as cash cows, and putting their money into developing more than just another Everquest clone (WoW is one, like it or not) then they'll do better, because people will come back and play something that develops without leaving anyone behind.
Aion has over 3 million subs world wide... it's you whom you should feel bad for, they made a hefty profit. Do you not know why US out sources to other countries for pretty much everything? Far less expensive. So take that, throw in a MMO that has a hefty price tag if made within the US with the US salaries, remember how much more our dollar is worth than theirs... and then remember we (Western society) paid our retail prices for the product.
If 75% of the player base in the western side unsubs... I presume they will be perfectly fine still making profits. what game fails with 200k subs?
"Sometimes people say stuff they don''t mean, but more often then that they don''t say things they do mean"
All the games they have been developing has been infected with severe botting and goldspamming issues... Its almost as if they want to have them?
There's the same amount, if not more in other MMOs. It was a nightmare in L2 and that rep stuck. Notice how many times people say "all NCsoft MMOs have bot or RMT problems" as if there is an MMO that DOESN'T have them or if there was rampant botting in COx, GW, AA, TR, or Exteel. However, it was a big issue in L2, so it's a convenient torch and blanket statement to throw at Aion. It's the nature of MMO gamers to get stuck in a period of time or specific thought and not break away from it. Another classic example of this is with multiple acounts and EVE. People say EVE's numbers are inflated because so many people have multiple accounts. It doesn't make a difference that they have absolutely no basis of comparison for such a statement and that the comment would mean every single MMO sub number is inflated by probably the same percentage. EVE offers specials for those that want a second account therefore they have more dual boxers than everyone else.
MMO gamers lock onto a talking point and will not let it go. The fact is that the more successful the MMO is, the more bots and spam you will have. You can't even log into PotBS without gold spam in chat in the newbie zones.

There was goldseller spam in the goddamn closed beta periods in Aion!! Last time I logged in, you couldn't even see what people were saying because the gold spam in all the chat channels was causing too fast of a scroll. Downplay it all you guys want, but don't you think people will figure it out if they believe the crap you guys spew, buy the game, then log in and witness all this garbage?
Seriously, i don't know if some of you guys are in denial or just flat-out lying.

Just proves you don't play log in and you won't see any spammers in trade. I've seen 1 in 2 weeks.

South Korea, where most of the development took place, has a large economy that is very comparable to that of the United States. Aion cost something like $28 million (USD equivalent) to develop. Compare that to large, content-rich and better supported (at least at the time of release, for waning games) like WoW or Warhammer ($80 - 100 million, years ago).
So, it isn't hard to see why Aion literally has about 1/4 of the content and sophistication as other MMOs.
So far I've ran into three bots and I've only seen one gold spammer a day, which is a lot better then EVE, and all I have to do is right click their name in chat and select block. One thing that gets me though is the guy setting up his market in the middle of the city advertising gold, but that's it.
Couple things, first i see probably one gold spammer a night in the chat channels now and that is taken care of with a simple ignore. There is a couple private shops here and there advertising gold but doesnt really bother me.
I can attribute this to a few things, first off most bots are now in the mid to high 40's and most players have not yet reached this point so it appears there is less bots.
The chat filter has apparently been greatly improved, chatting in the chat channels is no longer a hassle.
Gold prices from what i can see are now down to 3 or even less per million... either people are not buying or they have just farmed so much of it that it has deflated the gold market.... maybe its becoming not worth it for the gold farmers...
Anyways the botting issue is really not an issue anymore for me .. i see a few here and there but its not like the first couple weeks where they were constantly kill stealing me and 4 levels above the current mob level.
One of my major complaints previously was the amount of bots and the constant scrolling of gold spam in the chat channels ... i had actually turned them all off at one point.

I guess u have to play a game to be able to speak about it , and in mmorpg people tend to know it all , even for games they never ever played , or played in beta to level 10.
yeah Aion has been infested with bots with little to no end in sight, till last night i got a glimmer of hope. i play on Yustiel server and was on my Assassin alt i had recently made. and there was an ACTUAL GM in the sin chat channel, appearently he was going around banning bots. people would say where there was a ton of bots at and the GM would port out there and bann the bots it was very nice to see something FINNALLY being done about the bots. the GM was actually pretty cool too, was bsing with us while he was searching for bots. there was actually 2 the one did chime in once but he wasn't as talkative as the other one.
it was the only time i ever seen them do anything about the bots tho, but hoping its only the first time and they're going to activly hunt the bots all the time like they did last night. just figured i'd share with you guys what i saw last night on my server.
I feel bad for them too, being constantly attacked by the faceless usernames of the haters in this forum.
NCsoft are a good company, I have enjoyed numerous games from them, especially Aion and Guild Wars and I am highly anticipating Guild Wars 2 as are many of my friends.
They had problems with Aion, and they solved them. There is a massive reduction in gold spammers and bots, and they sorted the server issue out as quickly as could be expected from any company.

this is very good news considering the fact that only real solution to bot problem is full-time in game gms. Every automated solution is just a hinderance to botters which they find a workaround pretty quickly.
