My Darkfall online Newbie guide

Hope this guide can help, also my first guide on the net. please be kind.--Ltvalidate 11:11, December 21, 2009 (UTC)

Join the clan called NEW. This will help prevent 80% of population from attacking you during the first month only and you can learn the game a bit safer

Rest, put rest in as a hot key. Most important hot key in the game. Also put a wand and melee item on hot keys for easy switching. For looting it’s best to just leave your bag open at all times. Quicker the better. Don’t want to get hit while looting if possible

Expect to die. And often. So bank your gold always and other items often.

Best to play naked go out and kill goblins. Get armor and weapons from them. Kill and loot till you have about 30 items to sell, go sell and bank gold, bank an extra set or two of weapons and armor, not more than that as you can get more from goblins often. Also make sure you use a dropped or brought weapon ASAP. Your starter weapon and wand don’t gain skills

Harvesting is the way to make money also helps raise attributes.

Don’t do trade skills yet harvest and sell first so you can buy fighting and magic and crafter skills after you save up a bit Fishing and cooking great to start. For wisdom. Plus eating food regains stamina faster, and save necture its needed for spells later Logging easiest and safest in towns. Save timber to 1000 and sell it for 5-6k gold. This helps STR and VIT attributes Herb harvesting this one helps WIS. Save mandrake and it’s the main comp for self buffs and heal others. Steed grass must save its worth about 300g each as it’s used for making mounts. Take a long time just to harvest one. I’ve been lucky to gain 4 in 1.5 hrs. but other time 1 per hour.

Mining great to help increase STR and VIT you need to save the sulfur for spells mainly for attacking types.Iron good for money and crafting your own supplies of weapons and armor Best to start out with just the stones by the guard towers. Forget about the metal ore for now. You’ll get ganked a lot for it and it’s a bit too far from towers mostly. Not all but most are. Mine the stone and just save the stone and sulfur. sell the stone after you have 1000 of it you can get about 3k gold for it Here’s why I say leave the metal for now. Starting with stone skill up to mining 75 buy mining mastery and then skill it up on the stone also to maybe 50. This will help you mine faster and more as your stamina will drop less. Now mine metal.

Never mine or harvest anything outside of towns till your stamina drops below 25%. You need some running sprinting stamina or fighting stamina in case your jumped I’d plan to harvest till I have at least 3k in bank. But keep harvesting skills going up. Here’s why. It helps your attributes go up. = better skills to start off with fighting and magic for when you leave the safety of the towns

Now hunt goblins again using the reagent you harvesting to skill up your magic. Even if you plan to play melee or archer still skill up magic. It’s great for buffs and small heals.

Use a non-start wand and cast mana-missile at the goblins. This is one spell that has no regs. And is good to level PVE all the way to 100. One it helps get your lesser magic skill to 50 which you need to buy greater magic. Then keep leveling it when you can to get lesser magic up higher. Also heal-self spell use it often. Even while just running around back and forth crafting. Harvesting ECT. Gain skill in it. Use greater magic render spell to skill up. I also like heal other spell, just cast on others for a while at a bank vault.

Skill up greater magic to 50 so you can buy the other magic schools. Other magic schools. I suggest the first spells be a buff spell. Makes it easy to skill up while in a safe town. And then when money permits buy the bolts and go attack. My main suggestion is gain up your skills attributes with harvesting crafting and easy spells near towns.

First and then go out and attack mobs till you have 25-40 in most skills. Then go pvp. But best to join a clan and pvp with them. You’ll gain the skills and have the safety in numbers. Just remember to use the T command so you swing up to down vs side to side. You don’t want to hit your own clan mates

For fun and skill ups I hit auto run and just point in a random direction. Naked of course. If I get killed oh well skill ups are first don’t worry about being good at pvp till you get them up.

Oh almost forgot swimming. A must. Not that it helps you get away. But it’s great for Quickness and VIT and STR attributes, running and sprint help quickness also. Plus riding

Of course you don’t have to worry about any of this. You can just go out and fight and gain skills. I just think you’ll live longer PVP wise against those with higher attributes. But in the end it does all come down to skill. The right timing and combo of hits. My first week on NA sever I took out a small guild leader. Killing his mount with magic mana-missile only and then him with melee 2 hand sword. It was luck I’m sure he just missed me a lot. Jumping away helps and use your environment.

Enjoinment trees protect you from arrows and magic. Higher rocks great to keep melee down. Think of the higher ground often. Most will also suggest using a 2 handed weapon melee wise. Longer range and easier to hit with. But also train at least one 1 handed weapon. As you can only use one handed weapons on mounts.

Crafting wise. After buying you skills. I would say to train up weapon crafting and armor. It’s good to have extra items in the bank when needed. As for the other crafting. Well maybe wood for arrows if you go archer. Otherwise just buy arrows. And sell timber.

THIS guide is where I’m at most harvesting is close to 75 and just getting the master skills. Plus just bought all magic schools except necro and arcane which you need 75 in witchcraft and chanting to get so be awhile till I get that. Melee 2 great sword 30 nice to have knockback skill with it. And training one hand sword now 20. Swimming and run both 100. Sprint 60 all attributes except dex is near 40 now which will help me buy more skills soon.

I plan to amend this guide as I gain new exp playing this game.Best advice is expect to die, don’t complain about it. Go out and get revenge. Or get you clan to get revenge on them. This game can be a lot of fun. Please don’t judge this game until you played the whole free month. And most of all remember this is a PVP game like FPS, not a PVE game. PVE is kinda there but that’s just to help skill gain, and a bit of loot. I currently solo this game. Yes I joined a clan NEW, just for safety while I learn. But other than chatting I haven’t grouped up once since beta days. Only reason is to just gain skills though the harvest craft way first. I can’t wait till next weekend, when I leave new I plan to join a clan and group up and find all you newbie’s and kill every one of you if your away from your towns

New info: dec 21st

as a newb i only sell at my races capital city. right at the vault keep the items in the vault til they arrive. so you don't get ganked and loose it all. then grab only what your selling and make sure you have no weapons on. must not have weapons in your hand. or at least make use your not in combat mode. point at the buying and press g . g will attack if you have a weapon and ready to attack. bad thing towers kill you and they get loot free. so no weapon in hands , yes three times. i make mistake once. never again .lol

ok press g then mouse over to trade with button and put item in but make sure the accept button isn't clicked. my windows 7 is double clicking on me so i almost give away free every time. or better yet have them put money in first and then you put in goods. both press accept and then vault money right a way. incase of ganking. can happen..

this is way we wait till we have 1000 units. make the time for them to travel down worth it. as they may get attacked them also.

hopes this helps.

one more thing when offering trade in chat. make sure to pull the link over to the chat. i kept saying i had wood for sale. but it was timber. i chopped from trees. i didin't turn it into wood. they may be mad if they show up and you have wrong item.

More info: dec 22nd

a funny but hard lesson to learn from last night right before server reset. i recalled back to clan town so i could bank the ton of ore and a few gens i just mined. and when i came in i was ganked. and looted. i thought what the heck. clan town who's attacking me. i found out a skilled RED player came in to the clan town and started ganking all the AFK players and anyone else. as most of our clans skilled players logged off for the night. all us newbs were getting killed so quick. plus respawn and die agian with in seconds. i took the time to run and hide and regain health and then pulled my staff and attacked back . i did ok getting his health to 50% while a few others attacked him he ran off. but came back and found me and nuked me well. then the killing us started all over 15-20 min of this.

not a huge deal. but a lesson, don't recall to clan town unless you know it's protected. plus becareful going to clan towns near server reset time. this seems to be newb hunting time for the skilled players

New info dec23rd:

Settings options. just remembered this should have typed it in the beginning. turn down 3d sounds all the way. and ambience sounds off. this will help you hear attackers near by.

video settings , turn vegetation setting all the way down and i turn off shadows. i like a clearn view of my surroundings to see the PVPers coming

More info dec 26th:

key bindings help

/bind F12 bindstone_recall is one

in the options i just went to keybinding and used my hot bar 9 to set up F1 to F10 keys

i put rest in F1

starter wand F2

starter weapon F3

mana missile F4 and heal self F5

F6 and F7 i put my weapon skill attacks there because skill over 25

i then used F8 for skinning knife wise to always have a skinning knife on you when PVEing extra money from the items

F9 and F10 i just hotkeys axe and pickaxe

doing this is good for you slot 9 or 0 , just making a naked setup for harvesting and if you died and need to get going fast

plus nice now just have to click F1 when i want to rest, not having to be on the right hot key set .

i use to always have rest in slot 0 and healself in slot 9 on all hotbar sets. now thoses spots are free for other spells

DEC 27 new info:

Today I left the clan NEW. And decided to die quickly so I could, in hopes respawn back at my starter city way on the other side of the world and not have to rick dying again from trying the run

When I died I didn’t go back home. Instead I respawned at the nearest Race Alliance city, in the orc lands vs my wolf lands. Odd. But was cool to see their home.

I geared up and grabbed my mount and used the internet to see the best route to take avoiding mobs and the dwarven cities. I was attacked twice but made it away, and found 2 chaos chests along the way.

So the lesson is don’t count on getting back to home town if you leave your clan and was bound to their stone. You may need to make a long run home.

Oh and I also learnt that you can swim in lava, you take 5hp dmg per sec but still odd.

Also the guys in the clan were saying that resources respawn time seems to be 3 hrs. So if you mine metal rock and its out just check it in 3 hrs if you’re still around. Not sure on this though

New info DEC 30:

When you have money buy bags, and put them in the bank. Rename them by clicking on them twice slowly or click once and press backspace key.

Use the bags to keep your bank organized.Don’t waste time keeping bags in your backpack. That just makes it easier for PVPers to loot you faster.

I like keeping a ton of loot junk in the backpack making them take longer to loot. As the pack doesn’t stay organized in their view of your loot.

If you can afford it buy tailoring skill and make your bags. You get skill up and WIS pts

Armor. I have noticed today. After having over a month of playing. That the type of armor you ware and they game play you do matters. EG.Wearing chain, plate or better armor is great for melee and seems ok for bow not sure why. But sucks for magic. The penalty rating on the armor will increase casting time and reduce dmg dealt. Wearing padded armor has no issues at all really. Leather a little bit. Not sure on studded yet. Still trying to get skill there. But‘d assume a bit worse than leather.

In the end if you plan to use magic as your main pvp or pve then tailoring armor is better then armor-smithing armor

Crafting info so far from what I can tell you have two ways to do it, fast and expensive or cheap and slow.

i.ve raised tailoring from 25 to 75 today I used the cheap way using 1 cloth to make 1.0 item 100’s of times and skilled to 55 and cost me 19gold per , as I got1gold back from selling item back. Then from 55 to 68 I used leather 3 pcs and made 100 or so items. Then back to cloth to cheaply skill up taking over 200 cloth to lvl up from 68 to 75. I altered between 1.0 1 cloth and 25.0 2 cloth items. This cost me I think about 30k gold in the end. I hope to mine iron soon to work on studded and then get bone armor.

Dec 31

While harvesting I noticed that it’s a lot easier to zoom in a bit to the resource .

Was asked in game how to loot by a newbie today. I thought I’d say it here. First get close to the grave stone . mouse icon should go yellow press F key and then drag it all over. Keeping the backpack open B key at all times helps makes thing quicker too.

Working on the starter quests. Will give you a set of armor and some harvesting tools. Plus about 500-800 gold if you loot a few goblin kills while on the quests.

Jan 3rd

One really good way to make some money and gain 3 sets of armor/weapons/harvesting tools and skill up a bit while doing it. Is simply finish your starter town quests till you finish the mana missile quests at least and then go to the other starter cities, and redo all the quests there again. By talking to the npc by the binding stone. Doesn’t take to much time. And to be smarter collect 3 time the number of what you need to turn in. 12 axes 15 bows 60 arrows , 15 sulfer, 15 resin, 15 mandrake, 2 trout and 1 cod. This was wolflands info. Not sure on other races yet. And don’t cook the fish till you get each quest, you have to do them one at a time.

Staying out of clans for a few weeks is wise. Prevents you from being attacked. And helps you go gain skills with less attacks. I’ve seen crafters ganked in starter towns by rival clans and looted all their goods. Best to stay out of clans until you plan to live and stay in clan cities.

One other thing play in window. Small one and window Firefox or IE beside it. While you harvest read up on the game. Just keep watch on your character. NEVER conduct unattended macroing. You’ll die and worse you can be banned for it. Hope this helps some of you. enjoy and see you in there, Validate ..

Great guide, i was looking for something like this...

One newb question... how do I sell the harvested materials (ore, timber, etc)? Where do players meet for trading?

Nice guide im sure it will help out alot of new players.

  • rpgamer13rpgamer13 Member UncommonPosts: 73

just learned pack-mule skill. allowes you to carry more . to skill up must be over weighed and just walk around.

one way to reach a clan city is to attack a fellow race mate. you go rogue and then let the towers kill you if your alignment is in the neg. you get booted to clan stone and bound there.  to get back home RUN or kill to get alignment back and leave clan and die.

Just going to correct a small information though, I'd say that 80-90% of that population doesn't attack in Starter Zones to begin with.

What makes NEW safer though, is numbers. if there's a PKer near Hammerdale, well group up and kick his ass so hard his mother in Shoal will start bleeding (Oblivion reference). There's also the ability to easily group up for mob hunting and get your questions answered a lot faster than by using Race or Race Alliance chats. It is true though that, while 80% of the server will not attack you while in NEW, should you choose to attack them, you are free game and wll learn the hard way.

  • rpgamer13rpgamer13 Member UncommonPosts: 73

haven't confirmed yet but. i'm currently starting to train all weapons to at least lvl 25. not just to see what i like and incase the end game of weapons i end up liking something else. but to see if training them all helps raise attributes STR mainly .

oh and if you plan to craft good armor and weapons get your WIS to 40 fast. go fish a lot and cook them, plus other crafting helps raise WIS too, you need 40 WIS to buy the 2 skills for good equipment crafting
