I think crafting is going to be like in kotor, a bench where we break down and upgrade items found in the world. As for housing, think of the apartment complexes in Taris. I wouldnt mind that tbh. If the apartment windows have some nice view of coruscant would be real nice.
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
It would be great if they had a crafting minigame similar to EQII, with item quality levels and what not. A system that made you actually work to get an item rather than sit there and watch a bar cross the screen.

Crafting is there, just not discussed at the moment. Probably because it's unfinished atm.
I could do without personal housing, but a guild base would be pretty awesome. Personally, I don't see housing or guild bases happening, but I've always felt that the latter was a great means of immersion in a MMO. Fingers crossed that it comes about.
I liked those features in SWG as well, but I'm going to all together avoid the whole argument of "make it like SWG did". Personally I'd prefer if they did nothing like SWG did mainly to avoid the eventual arguments we will get into player vs player and dev vs player about "if you did that why can't you do this too.".
Now yes I want housing I think it is intricately important for a consistent world game that we are expected to basically pay rent for and yes crafting as well when done right in games is another thing I think we need (though I've been know to just avoid crafting in games where it wasn't that strong STO comes to mind) but I don't have any qualms about them doing it there own way as I don't think SWG should have any real bearing on this game.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
There is some suggestion that Bioware is seriously considering housing, or at least think its important.
From GDC:
"Walton discussed aspirational experiences, and pointed out that they didn’t necessarily have to be day to day, they could be things that people aim for over the long term. In Ultima Online, for example, the data showed that people who had houses stayed longer than people who didn’t, so making changes to offer housing to more players became important."
I saw that report on the GDC as well and came to the conclusion that there would be player housing and probably guild ships. I might be reading to much between the lines, but it made me happy to think BIO might be looking into the psych of MMOs to see what ingredients make a great and long lasting one. The more MMOs i play over the years, the less they satisfy and the less time I subscribe. My latest game was STO, and I didn't last pass the 30days. That has NEVER happened to me before with MMOs, not even POTBS made me quit that quick.

I can't remember who suggested it but it was playing housing should be a ship in space. I would really hate to see a planet littered with scattered houses destroying the view. Player housing isn't my thing, I see it as a waste of time and sometimes (SWG) an eyesore but I respect and understand those who do enjoy it. I think instancing the homes would make it great for both sides, it would also stop those pesky runners from retreating into homes locking the door. I mean seriously, this is Star Wars, there was nothing more pathetic then chasing a jedi as a BH only to watch him run in his home and wait it out Set the damn thing on fire or something.
As for answer to crafting, that's probably best response to most things asked on this board. I think they have an idea as to what they want but aren't announcing anything until they gather more responses from the community. So yes, I do believe BioWare listens to us, hopefully they're smart enough to not do that all the time.

Right, that will be the first implementation.
Instanced houses / apartments will come in second.
Don't ever dream about free for all lots placement as in SWG, it will simply never happen.
But SWG failed in terms of housing control
VG style or Shadowbane style would suite me better
What kind of style is VG/Shadowbane...? Havent played either
Is that like instanced zones?
Uhh... what?

Everything in the house or guild hall or boats is hand crafted, from the wall paper to the bricks and paint.

Don't expect any sandbox features from SWG in TOR, it's going to be very themepark and linear.
