I am just responding to the title and I am sure it probably came up somewhere in this thread, but: Since when do I have to pay 1$ for a FREE trial? Where I come from free means Free not .01 cents not 1$ but free, .00 is free.
Too bad Aventurine never said it was a FREE trial, and it costs $1 to protect the current user base.
Protect the current user base from what? Falling sub numbers less cash coming into the company, the threat of server closure, how is paying a dollar for a trial going to offer any protection to the current player base? I mean like the game but please avoid trying to use BS logic on the less enlightened.
Preventing gold spammers? Keeping track of users CC #'s who might abuse the system? Hello?
Do you guys even try to think things through or just come in to bash whatever the topic is at hand?

BTW gang there is a such thing as age verification systems that take CC info without charging anything so please again stop using that as an excuse to charge a dollar, if 500k people try the 1 dollar trial you do the math on what they will make and tell me it isn't about the money, especially again since age verification software exists that doesnt have to charge you a dollar even.
Yeah, and then you would come in here and bash Aventurine for taking CC #'s in the first place.
$1 to try a game and people still have nothing better to do but complain. Can you go to McDonald's and try a Big Mac for a week? What about buying a car for $100 for a week? Can you go to a movie for a buck to decide if you like it?
I've never seen so much mindless trolling, it's ridiculous.

Hahaha, now I know you're an obvious troll.
Falling subscription numbers? I see new people everyday, and most agree the population is increasing.
Threat of server closure? Hahahahaha.... wow, the Darkfall haters are going to new lows now. I guess it must hurt that Darkfall has survived for a year after all the "vaporware" troll days and "Dark and Light" troll days....
And yes, there are age verification systems, but you obviously have never heard of a credit card number generator that will use ages for verification as well.
The $1 charge for the 7-day trial prevents random hackers/bots/gold farmers from ruining current subscriber's experiences, because with the person's actual information if their account gets banned, then their main account or other trial accounts would get banned to. Plus, if you're not willing to pay $1 to try the game out for a week, then you obviously aren't interested in trying it anyway and are better off never entering Agon in the first place.

if they seriously wanted people to try the game, then imo, this was definitely the wrong way to do it. i dont know about everyone else, but im fairly cautious when it comes to giving out credit card details - one of the reasons i tend to use gametime cards rather than credit card transactions, paranoia on my part perhaps, but, it works for me.

Perhaps they want to offer people who are serious about wanting to play a good deal while at the same time keeping out the gold spammers and multiple account exploiters. Make sense?
And from reading some of the replies, I'm really glad they did it that way.

He didn't say he was responding to Aventurine.
That being said, you are correct in that even before release technically Tasos said he "HOPED" everyone would be able to try the game for free before they needed to buy it. It was quite an issue back before release, and there was much discussion on the subject of a Trial at Release.
Obviously that didn't happen, and it was where a lot of the initial distrust of Aventurine and Tasos started.
If I have time, I'll go back through my posts and see if I can find the exact quote. Doesn't really matter either way now... but I like to try and be accurate with my information.
If someone else has a link to the exact quote post it up.
Quite a few of us who posted a lot before release were talking about the statement made by Tasos, but there was no link to it. I'll keep looking for a link to the quote.
Thats right.. 7 day darkfall trial for $1.. check it out!
been playing this game for months really fun
Man AV is not the only one,i have run into this incompetence before.Tell AV there dam NEXT and BACK buttons are in the way of being able to enter birth date. This is so bad because whoever is in charge of setting up the web forms, did not even try their own work to make sure it works, they just assume it works.I tried everything including using TAB,no way can i register. The reason is their icons need to be pushed at teh upper position, witch makes you auto press next or back, why they put those two so close to the register keys is beyond me,some noob web admin.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner. And trust me, I'm glad they did too. All these whiners crying about $1 don't even deserve to try the game.
Let them keep whining on forums though, I'll be in game having a blast with all the new blood around Agon.
On the one hand I understand it that they want some money (for the credit card / ban thingy, and then because: money is money). On the other, a trial you have to pay for will never be as successful as a free one. Between not paying and paying, no matter how much, is still a huge difference for many people.
I think there are a lot of things to take into account on this one. I mean, success of a trial can be measured as conversions to subscriptions. While you might get a lot more people trying out a free trial, I would think that people paying a nominal amount instantly express more likelihood of converting to a paying sub then someone who just wants to check it out for free. That is just my assumption though, I could be completely wrong.
Additionally, I think you need to take into account that this is a two server game. How many trials could they really accommodate all at once? Maybe they could handled thousands? tens of thousands? a hundred thousand? I couldn't tell you, except to say that a free trial would create a much larger initial rush then the $1 trial and would stand a chance of saturating AV's capacity at this time.
Now, don't get me wrong, I am as critical as anyone when it comes to the company behind the game, but I really think they deserve some credit on this one. They are offering a trial and they did not create a significant barrier to trying out the game. And, they created a means to welcome potential new players while mitigating the impact those players might have on stability. I agree with a few others that it is likely a good idea to give it a week or two and let the initial rush get out of the way before I try it myself though

I seriously cannot believe the number of people in this thread STILL bitching. Geezus Xmas people....GROW UP. And no, the grow up part is not directed at the person above who is uncomfortable with using a credit card. You can't even get a decent candy bar for a dollar, and you guys have the NERVE to whine about an entire WEEK of playing a game to try it for a BUCK?! That really makes you all seem ridiculously petty.

I'm gonna have to agree with girlgeek, here. For months people have been whining for a trial, and now that AV is offering one, people are still complaining. One dollar to try out a game for seven days is rather cheap, and A LOT less expensive than buying the game for 50 bucks and then realizing you don't like it. I must give kudos to AV for once again listening to the potential playerbase and offering a trial. They may just yet beat the stigma of that awful launch.
I can understand the complaints. 1$ isn't a lot of money, but its still money. Make it 50 cents if you want, you're still having to put some sort of payment information into the system, paypall or otherwise to try a game for 7 days (which is debateable on whether or not thats even enough time for a skill based, PVP based, sandbox style game.
Yes, spending 1 dollar is better then spending 50 dollars, but somewhere down the line AV went from "we'll let everyone try the game before they buy the game" to "You have to pay a dollar just for the 7 day trial" really just doesn't sit well with me.
Still, anyone who's serious about trying the game, this is the only option they get, soooo.. not much you can do other then shut up and pay... or don't.

Dude, I don't care who likes the game. I'm enjoying my time and thousands of others are. We're merely saying there's no reason to complain about a $1 trial. Because there isn't a reason to complain about it. Those complaining, we look at as trolls, since the money versus entertainment ratio is quadruple. You pay $1 for a week or maybe after that, months of fun.
