Just curious to see if there was anyone like me who always picks the human race in their MMO. I'm not entirely sure why, but I'm leaning toward "I can relate better to a human character".
Which race do you tend to choose? Humans? The Elves (Light & Dark meat)? The obligitory "short" race? Etc.
Comments
Yeah same here. I Gravitate towards humans or elves. I absolutely despise shorter races as well as anything huge.
I tend to go for the more unique races, I really dislike playing humans. I gravitate towards dwarves, orcs, trolls, dark elves etc.
this.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
I'd fall into the "anything but humans" crowd.
Maybe it's not wanting more of the usual, or maybe it's that their innate abilities are always so bland, but I just never seem to play them in any MMO I play (unless it's the only option, ie. Fallen Earth).

I am a human everyday so I guess I tend to try to play different races when I play mmos if at all able.
That's interesting, it really shows the gaping differences in personal taste.
I actually hate staring at the back of something like an orc or dark elf. I don't really know why, either.
Strange.
I tend to choose the evil elves. I hate humans in RL, don't care to play one. I like alot of the ideas that are floating out there in MMO's about other rats. EQ1/2 with rats, foxes, lizards. Vanguard with wolves. eternal earth has a great huge list as well.
I only pick Human if there are no other interesting (to me) ones to choose. I play a Human everyday so when I MMO game I tend to step away from that.

Whichever race looks coolest and I think fits the class I want to play.
i dont actually go for race as much as i go for looks
in Dungeons and Dragons online, the humans seem to have the best hair styles and body composture. in World of Warcraft (when i used to play it) it was the night elves.
oh and they need to have a beard i have a beard in real life and i like it how it makes me look bad ass (yes im being full of myself right now)
Edit: oh and my 1st alt has always been a dwarf or the fat ugly race with a beard
Whatever fits the role I want to portray best. If it's a melee fighter swinging a large weapon I want the toon to be huge, if it's a caster I'd like something a bit more frail. Most of my toons throughout the games have been either the biggest or the smallest race.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
IDK man... Humans are the most boring race (and I say this as one), but still the hardest to get right, it seems. Anyway, I usually go for the more unique races. I.E. Sarnak in EQII, Mahirim in Darkfall, or Draenei (however it's spelled) in the WoW days.
I do the same, for gender too. For some reason I stick with male fighter types, normally female mages/druids, male necros/sorcs, etc.
I found Draenei to be the most annoying race in that game. :P
Yes, even over Gnomes. :]
^^^ How... How in the hell???
*Damn Gnomes*
I thought they were pretty cool but the male voices...ugh.
I KNOW, RIGHT??
But seriously, if I clicked on a gnome NPC, I was fine.
But as soon as I heard "Dee Naaru hev not foorgotten us" I wanted to kick in my monitor.
SHUT UP YOU ANNOYING SPACE GOAT YOU ARE SO TWO DIMENSIONAL AND BORING AND RAWR.
I'm typically after the gameplay effects more than anything. With WOW I experimented with nearly all the races over the years with my various characters. And although I still sort of think human have it best in WOW, I mostly play Horde so I've settled on Orcs as my favorite.

WoW humans were really, really fugly though. Not sure what went wrong.
I play whatever is interesting and looks appealing. Which often rules out humans because...the developers just decide "Oh they're humans, we'll make them normal with no penalties or bonuses, that'll be fair" and because well, doing an orc, cat-dude, or big ogre, is one thing, doing a human who looks appealing is another.
And by appealing, I *do not* include an overly muscle-bound thug and a bland flat-faced nobody with no character.
Oddly in my pen and paper games though I don't include non-humans with any regularity.
Before the "RABBLERABBLERABBLERABBLE!!!!!" I liked to play wookies, or zabrak, but mostly wookies.
I like humanoid races, but usually not humans in specific, I dislike short and huge races though. So I generally play elvish type characters. I dont have a problem with humans though, I dont dislike them.
MMOs played: Too many
Watch List: FFXIV, CoH:GR, GW2, SWTOR, TERA, Earthrise
It dpends how well the game is designed,in FFXI your race made quite a difference,so depending on the class iwanted to play, that is the race i would play.Traditionally the Humans offer nothing except balance, and balance is usually not the best idea in thata caster shoudl not need STR or VIT espcially if they are sacrificing what a caster actually needs. It doesn't bother me tha tsomeone will play a Human,i really don't care but for myselfi like to put some thought into WHY i choose a race.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
While I don't prefer humans, I do tend to avoid playing shorter races (dwarves, halflings, gnomes, etc.). The reason is simply that in most games the movement and animations for these races (particularly the short AND stout ones like traditional dwarves) is noticably poorer then for taller races. They seem to me far less fluid and armor and gear on limbs tend to clip more (overlap/disappear) into the torso.

I'm usually either a human or an elf. But I once played a lizard in SWG.
