Hello all, and let me start by saying that I sypathize with you in the plight you're experiencing with you search for a modern MMORPG with a more group focus. When I say group focus, I mean the type of community that you might have experienced with EQ, UO, FFXI...etc. Now I myself I have been searching for quite some time now and I have run into the same wall that I'm sure you all have hit. The fact of the matter, is that MMOs just aren't the way they used to be, but you know this...people have made it a point to rub this in our faces all over these forums. Instead of arguing with them, I have a different approach to our problem.
If developers aren't going to make a game that we can enjoy, we will have to adjust to find the experience that will satiate our gaming hunger. It's time we mobilized together to find a game that suits our needs and approach this game not as solo players, but as a combined force. What good is searching for a group-based game, if we are searching for it alone and separate. My solution is for all the gamers who are looking for a group experience to come together in this thread and throw out some ideas for the entire "group-seeking" community to approach. I don't care if it's something as simple as returning to the games we all loved (EQ, UO, FFXI...etc). Some people may say that these games don't have population anymore and are pretty much pointless. Well....we'll make the community for ourselves. I know there are enough players out there looking for a mature and friendly community to play a group based game with and I say lets guild up and start the adventure again.
For those of you who like the sound of this idea, throw out some suggestions for games to try. If you have no suggestions, throw out some feedback on how you feel about this idea as a whole. Keep in mind the type of games were looking for and if the game you're suggesting will fit the need of our community. Once we all agree on a game we can start from scratch and work together as a group/guild to succeed.
Lemme know what you think.
Thanks.

I've been playing AoC off and on for the last 2 weeks. The group content is really fun, but getting folks to run the low to mid range content is next to impossible because everyone wants to rush to lvl 80 so they can get their raid gear before the next expansion.
If you have some friends who enjoy group content I would highly recommend AoC. I'm still having fun and have just decided to push thru to 80, but I would love to run some dungeons if people were interested.
You can count me in on this. I suggest Ryzom, but I'm open to playing anything.
I'm totally up for this. As you seen, I made a thread about the same category.
- I have no suggestin. Up for anything, but AOC
I am willing to try any decent MMORPG, as long as I can buy the game and time cards for it locally.

If i understand you right you're not blaming devs to set less focus on forced grouping but move on and just want to play
a mmo in a group, now the part i don't get: what do you need to search here? Every mmo offers the option to play in group,
if the community is big enough you also most likely will find people who will group up to play together so whats the problem here?
Pi*1337/100 = 42
I just resubcribed to FFXI for this very reason. Seemed to be the most group centric mmo Ive seen personally! I def willing to join in on this idea though. Sounds fun..whether it be ffxi or watever!
Well, this sounds interesting. If you can get this going OP, then I'm totally in. As to which game to choose, I honestly have no idea.. but I'm willing to try anything at this point so I'll go with the majority vote.
We should really get this going, and vote for a game (:
yeah finding the right game might be a bit difficult, especially if weve all played the major ones to death already, like I have. hmm so basically, we need a game thats playable on most systems and has a good amount of group content, but is not necessary to group to advance.. tough one
Sounds like a good idea, would be up for it.
Currently downloading Vanguard trial to give it a try after reading it has great content but lacking players to do it with, but as you say we create our own community so population wouldn't be an issue
Willing to give any game a try new or old, aslong is it has the tools for great grouping content. Will keep a check on this thread see if a game is decided

I am so in. I was just thinking about playing a new mmo.
Interesting idea and I'm curious to see where this goes. I haven't seen many suggestions listed yet, however.
Depending on the game you guys choose, count me in also.
Maybe ally in an xfire clan or something?
"Ad astra per aspera."
op!so far the closest mmo i found ,is aika online!might be other but in the f2p zone to attract the largest audience
f2p just look more possible!
Imo it doesn't matter if its P2P, but then it must have a trial option.
"Ad astra per aspera."
Vanguard sounds like a pretty good idea imo, it has been a while since ive tried it and the only problem i ever had with it was lack of community.
OK SOOOOOO
What game will it be. I think Vanguard or EQ2.
Who will get this started???
Sinn
Between the two, while Vanguard I would say has more interesting mechanics and more of that "old world" MMO feel, it's also essentially just floating in limbo as SoE doesn't give a damn about it and just wants it on the station pass.
EQ2 is a little bland in the style department, but it has a decent amount of features and a pretty sizable world. Additionally, it's still being updated regularly and just got an expansion.
If only we could take the features of Vanguard and merge them with the content in EQ2.
Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.
EAT ME MMORPG.com!
I agree
I think EQ2 would be a better choice
Shouldnt a guild be created first and see how many will join??
Sinn
Honestly I would say Lord Of The Rings Online. Grouping is needed in that game and it is very good too; you definitely have to rely on your teammates and the community is mature.
I am currently downloading the Eu version ^^.
I played it back then when it was open beta; so thanks to the fantastic account system at turbine I have no free trial time there, terrific...
"Ad astra per aspera."
I think we should put up a list of say 3-4 psp games and 3-4 f2p games and see what everyone thinks.
i dunno, im kinda against most f2p games. the only decent one i have ever played is ddo, but its a bit grindy if youre not paying for anything.
sorry to hear that. I am US, Brandywine.
So lets throw up 4 p2p games and go from there
Lets put a start time and end date for the poll.
