I thought that was pretty clear in my initial post.

I was a WHFB player when 40k came out, I am well aware of their relationship (or lack thereof).

Ah cool, I truly did misunderstand you (I had perceived your argument to be agreeing with that other dude). You remember Rogue Trader - now there was an MMO begging to be made I had always thought (same with Necromunda really).

Looking at that video, I get an impression that the game play is about you as a hero character, leading an npc henchmen team.

Many of the game play shots had 5 man teams running about and they appeared not to be player controlled.

If true it would be a neat way to balance races out - Ork player starts a mission with  10 Boyz and Marine player leads a  5 marine team for example.  Group cohesion would be maintained as in the table top game. Also henchmen would fire at henchmen while hero character could naturally fire at anything he chooses - as in the table top game.

Would be a great way to make it balanced while not ignoring the fluff, thinking of it the faction system doesn't seem that bad, they could after all add a pvp area that's free for all and leave the factions for pve(of course that faction pvp doesn't seem bad neither) tough this seems unlikely, hopefully they'll balance the game race wise and not faction wise.

Sorry but have to agree, two factions leads to monotony.  Add a 3rd or 4th and see some fun chaos happen.

Wait, so Dark Age of Camelot was a WoW clone with 3 factions?

Don't even start with the 'clones'.

    - official website

Uh oh. We got another WAR on our hands.

So, now WAR clones too. Oh jesus what has this website come to!

WAR had two factions. Order and Destruction. And according to the official website the WH40k game, will also ahve two factions names Order and Destruction. Coincidence? I think not.

Coincidence? I think so, THEY ARE IN THE SAME UNIVERSE! (Warhammer incase you didn't know)

If i remember correctly: Order and Destructions was an alliance special made for WAR to justify the reasoning behind the alliances that were made.

To assume Vigil isn't taking some kind of inspiration from mythics WAR after having said that would be outrageous. Unless this is a concept that GW came up with to justify any and all alliances in future games (WH40K and beyond.)

You are completely missing the fact that Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Online are in the same Universe just different time periods.

    Order/Destruction

    Humans/Space Marines

    Orks/Orks

Gay Space Elves / Gay Elves

    Get it?

    Got it?

    Good.

that being said...I hope to god its not a wow clone, but you know as well as I that there are far too many clones and so many games have let us down. Why wouldn't they add a 3rd faction if it goes with the lore?

Anyways I refuse to get my hopes up...right now all I want to do is play a game thats not even out yet......IT SUCKS.....

They should redo ultima online in 3 d

Factions had nothing to do with Warhammers demise.

There are too many people CLAIMING WoW clones.

    I agree.

Actually they do not take place in the same timeline...officially...the only thing they mentioned is that WH:40k is like a parallel universe to WH:FB.

MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.

Im sure it will be your typical PvE to get the best gear-Heavily gear based-No point to open world pvp-most pvp content is instanced removing the epic battles- game

no thanks.   I have no faith in this company after the failure that is war.

THQ or Vigil didn't produce WAR. So, if you weren't so narrow minded you wouldn't have to hold onto your faith so tightly.

WWII had two factions.  It's a WWII ripoff.  Oh wait, Blizzard invented WWII.

It was definitely one of the strange, and ill-fated, decisions Mythic made when designing WAR. And the use of the exact terminology for the factions (Order & Destruction) has a rather foreboding feeling to it.

It kind of worked in WAR, from a lore point of view. Chaos and Dark Elves and Orcs could get together (though it is a real stretch). But for a 40k universe, even to have Eldar fight alongside Space Marines is not just lore-breaking but law-obliterating.

Sure there might be the odd time when there is some cooperation on a small scale, for a skirmish or a battle, when they band together to fight a common enemy - but this more often ended up in these factions ultimately fighting each other anyway. But if they are going to attempt to have the Order side be anything other than the followers of the Emperor (Imperial Guard, Space Marine chapters, Sisters of Battle, Inquisitors) then the game will be a shambles. All alien races are the enemy of the Emperor.

We have no idea what the playable races will be. But any real grouping of races into a faction is going to be crap. All races must be able to fight all races. If they want Orcs - Faction 1, Chaos - Faction 2, Space Marines/Imperial Guard - Faction 3, Eldar - Faction 4, Tau - Faction 5 etc. Can't see Necrons or Tyranids being a playable race :)

I disagree. Chaos especially would never "get" along with anyone else. The Orks would only agree to work with Dark elves if it served thier Bosses purpose. Frankly the statements about why WAR failed in relation to the factions is partly right. The other BIG part was, Mythic didnt create a world. They created a theme park. You took one ride(zone) finished that and got on another ride(zone). It was frankly the most stupid way to design the game world. There WAS NO WORLD. What Mythic did right in DAOC was the frontier and the homelands, Frankly id have wished you could breach the frontier gates to get into homelands but Mythic didnt allow for this, what they did with the frontier though was create a huge canvas for PVP/RVR. Add the relics and forts and walla. I lived in the frontier in DAOC.  In WAR it didnt even seem like a MMO to me.

But hey look up.  40k isnt made by Mythic.  So it wont be anything like it.

Huh? Are you clueless? WW2 had at least half a dozen "factions". Read your history nubcake. The French and Britsh had thier own agenda. The French wanted to invade USSR...the English didnt want to do shit. THe Japanese didnt want to invade USSR even though thier allie(Nazi Germany) wanted them to. So for you to condense WW2 into a "two faction" analogy is wrong cake.

I think the factions will be mostly for pve purpose, some pvp and most pvp will actualy be everyone against everyone.

I mean it seems like the game will start with 4 races,if it does they can actualy try to balance each race instead of balancing it factions wise but dividing the pve population so much would be a bit bad.

THQ has done some prety good stuff with the warhammer 40k ip(it did a prety good job of introducing me to warhammer 40k and making me an addict if anything) so far, this game still has 2 years of development ahead and I can atleast have a bit faith on it.

Also there's a huge lack of info right now anyway so in the current and quite soon future...there is only wait.

I love the Warhammer 40k world. I hope they do a great job with this so we can finally play a great Warhammer mmo. Chaos space marines ftw!
