Originally posted by Overlord1 Originally posted by elocke I haven't played WoW since April. Today I was bored and was looking at different games. I decided I would try World of Tanks, so I got the beta key, downloaded the client. Installed it. during the installation there was an odd moment where it said it had to repair the Microsoft Visual C++. That was a bit odd, I have never seen that before and I've installed lots of software over the years. So I decided to resub to WoW. I go to my account to resub, and find it's been resubbed, TODAY!. But with a completely different credit card number I've never seen before. I was even able to log in, fortunately nothing had been changed yet. I called Blizzard, they had me change everything etc. so I am Extremely blessed today. Not saying it is DEFINITELY the World of Tanks Beta client, but it's the ONLY thing I can think of that changed today on my PC. I have promptly removed it from my computer and am even more wary now of trying any FTPs these days.
Greetings,
there are more than 100.000 beta testers in World of Tanks at the moment. I'm sure you are not the only one of them who has WoW account as well. There have been no such complaints on the official forums or anywhere so far. As for Microsoft Visual C++, it is official licensed software, that just can't do any harm to your PC or steal your private data. You were asked to repair Microsoft Visual C++ only becuse you ALREADY HAD it installed. It was just the update. There are many opportunities how to hack private account in WoW or any other MMO-game. 1) beware of real people. They are the most dangerous 2) special account hack software 3) fishing software ... Free2Play doesn't automatically mean suspicious or shady. This model just allows the majority of players enjoy the game without investing any cent. No subscription, no compulsory payments. This game gives you freedom, you can invest either efforts/time or money to be rewarded with a better tank/equipment. I see that your are not blaming World of Tanks direclty for your problem, but I thought it would be better just to clarify this. I still hope, there is a chance to meet your in the battlefield elocke!
Ok. Thank your for your response. I wish there was a way I could clearly define how this happened, but I can't. The fact that you have responded to my "cautionary" post speaks volumes and gives WoT more credibility and a thumbs up to your Customer Service.
Harm to whom? The WoT company? I hardly think my "warning" is even going to be heard by but a handful of people who try the game. Hopefully, it is helpful in some sense that future devs and WoT devs can take a quick look at their installers, security, whatever in order to stop this stuff. I'm not "out to get them" as some people come here claiming. I'm just being a normal consumer/customer who had a problem that was either coincidental or not but it still happened.
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you were out to be malicious or trying to harm someone. Yet spreading false information does no one any good. Just because it doesn't cause widespread harm doesn't mean it is any less harmful. If your misinformation causes 10 people to avoid buying the game it is still harmful.
Honestly, I just don't understand what you think your warning is doing. That you don't know what happened and you will randomly blame anything possible until companies react? What are you thinking it is that you are stopping?
This is ridiculous. How can a thread like this be allowed to stay in these forums? It is causing damage to this new game on the marked. Everybody that logs on to this site and are curious about WoT will see the title of this thread and many will just move on and never look at the game again. The thread should be deleted as the OP do not have a hint of proof that this game caused problems at all. At the very least the thread title should be changed.
You are most likely right, good sir. I have also downloaded and tried the WoT beta. But today my hotmail account were hacked, and Blizzard confirmed they did hack hotmail first, then my WoW account.
At least now I know what did it. It was idd unexpected. I'll easily get my WoW account back, but I just don't know how to get my Hotmail back They changed the secret question into chinese..
Edit: I checked the email I got for the WoT invitation. It came from a site called www.ShatteredCrystal.com - which I see now it abit of a scetchy site. That's where I got my beta code. Could someone check up on that site to see if they find anything bad?
The link I got for the invitation in the mail came to another of my emails(not one that is hacked):
BEWARE: DO NOT ENTER THIS LINK IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!
