I found the Vanilla talent trees!

AmarandesAmarandes Member Posts: 104

So while waiting for the 24 hour maintainence on my realm to end, I browsed the web and guess what i found!

http://wowvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Talents.View&category_select_id=8&build=1.3

It's the old vanilla talent trees dating all the way back to Patch 1.3. I found myself loling at how poorly designed these talent trees were back then compared to today's trees.

Some notable stuff:

Resto Druids had some feral talents in their trees.

Resto druids had the combat endurance talent that actually allowed their health to regenerate in combat.

At one point in WoW, the priest's lolwell did not existed.

Blessing of Kings was the pally's 31 point ret talent.

Divine strength was deep in the pally's holy tree.

There are many more that I will let you guys see yourself.

This just shows that Blizzard had no idea what they were doing with class balance back then. I think all current and former players need to take a look at these trees and see how much the talents have evolved since then.

WoW has evolved over the years. Warriors were the only real tanks back then as well. Vanilla WoW is not as great as people make it out to be. BC was my favorite period in WoW so far.

yup I remember my main a preist, all the same stuff.  I mostly had shadow stuff.  I remember raiding mc and having the most dmg and healing as a preist so funny.  Thats been a good while ago, back when blackwing lair was stating to just get going.  I never got to run that instance though, poo...Would have liked to goton that mace off of nefarian.  Any preists get that great healing mace off of nefarian.  Thing looked so cool, looked like fruit of the loom mace.

I remember this time.. back on my pally when reckoning would stack as far as you could... Sit and duel a rogue for an hour.. then go do ONY.  Lol

Mages were impossible with frost..   Silithus was a huge battleground trying to get the gates open.  On Eredar we finally made a truce so we could complete the questline.

I think the problem with WoW now, as compared to then, is that they've gotten pretty good at balance.

The cost tho' is taking away often solves a problem more often than giving more. Less is always < more.

I kill other players because they're smarter than AI, sometimes.

Anyone remember when pally's blessing used to only last 5 minutes and we had no greater blessings at all? Ah yes, that was a huge pain buffing 40 people in a raid.

God yes and that is why I stopped playing a Paladin. Our guild was one of the first in MC after launch. So imagine you have a 5 minute buff and have to buff 40 people. As you finish, you have 3 minutes left and you pull..then you wipe. Repeat, but this time someone goes AFK and all buffs expire. Re-buff, then a strategy change. Then rebuff. Imagine that for 5 hours and you are still on trash!

    Ah....the good ole days.....NOT.

There was indeed very good reasons why they moved away from that!

Personally I never saw the point in five minute buffs, too long to be a situational boost and too short to be a group benefit. It is just purely annoying. Hell, it was annoying to self buff, let alone a raid!

Well, to be fair, I don't think the pally buffs were originally intended to be cast on everyone in the raid. That's just what the players wanted. In the end, they changed them to accomodate our preferred playstyle.

I distinctly remember being aggitated that as a resto druid back then, I was basically told to save my Innervate for the 'real healers', aka priests. I did my best to be the best healer in our MC group, and it was pretty difficult as a resto druid back then.

Hehe I forgot how many melee talents the hunter had back then, and such crappy top tier talents.  the 51pt talents we have right now are full of fluff and fill in +0.1sec cast time on fire ball etc.  the new 31pt talents seem so much better.

I remember pally buffs in ZG, we would start the raid like a millitary mission, at 0800 hours pally 1 buff kings, pally 2 buff might .. at 0802 we move out... at 0806 we stop and pally 1 buff kings, pally 2 buff might... LOL!

    LOL @ alliance !!!

Horde had no such buffs and were still getting good on trash. and BTW the lolwell as you call it is really a good spell IF people use it .

I remind Vanilla as a real challenge where tanks needed CC to control all the mobs. That needed some skills. Now its just too easy.

I liked it better back then, get off my lawn! *shake cane*

I seriously did like it more back then, and I didn't think the filler talents were all that bad. I actually love that they made all the tanking classes completely viable at tanking and all that, but don't like most changes.
