Feel of the game

paterahpaterah Member UncommonPosts: 578

I got accepted into beta some months ago but never actually got to play this game, you know it's always this other little thing to do. So I was wondering how the combat feels and generally the game, I read that this game is a bit like EVE just on ground, whereas I was actually looking for more of an action type mech mmo and fast paced. Would I have a chance to like it?

Combat is certainly fast-paced and full of action, morse so than Eve which while I love it dearly, can be like watching paint dry when you aren't actually fighting.  You need to keep your wits about you a bit more too, as combat if  very close-up and in your face, with most fights early on taking place with your target about 150 to 200m away from you, and if you aren't careful it can be point-blank. I certainly have no problems on that score.

It also has tthe other aspects I like, such as planning skills to squeeze one more weapon into the chassis, or maybe fit a Power Drainer or Sensor Booster.  Additionally, a squad of small Mechs could be a serious threat to a larger Mech if the squad was correctly fitted out with a nice mix of weapons, drainers, energy neutralisers, demobilisers to drop an enemy's speed and sundry other gadgets.  Nicely tactical, and you're never sure what the other player has up their sleeve.

It feels faster than EVE to me also but not twitchy like Exteel or anything.

I'm saving up for my first vehicle upgrade at the moment, so there's not much variety. You do get to loot/buy new ewapons and modules to try out and there are definitely tactics you can deploy in combat, such as using cover and range to restrict mobs attacking you while you're taking your target down.

I love the game though so far and it feels like it could have a real amount of depth in your play style, cooperative and PvP play and customisation options. I haven't seen much about a storyline or sense of purpose yet - am I just there to get a bigger robot, bigger guns, kill/sell/make more and bigger stuff, or is there something I am aspiring to or working toward?

I get good vibes from my first experiences in-game and on the boards.

The comminity seems very good through the week, but this last Saturday it was full of flamers, players trolling just to annoy the rest, people taking the piss out of newbies - in the Help channel, no less! - and one poor guy who is crippled with arthritis asked if he could bind forward movement to just the right mouse button (easier for his hands) and was mocked and insulted for it.  I was shocked.  He was told to f**k off and get a job because he shouldn't be paid simply to stay in the house and game online, plus sundry other charming comments in a similar vein.

I hope the usual invasion of the munchkins, retards and griefers isn't underway, to the ruin of the other communities that I've seen in so many other games. I was just getting used to actually talking ingame to rational, helpful people.
