What was your favorite Moment in your mmorpg experiance..?

What was your favorite moment in mmorpging? What is that one moment that you will always look back at and say " god damn I wish another game and or company could recreate or top that moment." For instance my favorite moment was in world of warcraft waiting for the boat to come and I talked to some other guy waiting for the boat also. We talked for a good 2-3 hours about current events politics within the WoW world. It really made me feel like I was a part of the WoW community. The game itself. I'm still in touch with this person and we are also part of the same guild in several other MMOs now.

SO in short what was your favorite moment in your mmorpg gaming? oh and why!

My favorite moment was in EQ 1. The game had only been released for 2 days and I made a gnome mage, got him to level 4 and decided I had to have gloves of the gatecaller. Well, to get the gloves I had to travel from akanon to odus, at 4th level. There were moments in HHK and Southern Karana that were heart stopping. If I died, I'd be sent back to akanon. I managed to make it and get my gloves. Was my favorite moment because I actually felt accomplished and I received many tells asking me about my awesome black plate gloves.

In SWG, base defense. We had an Imperial Base on one of the outer planets...maybe Dantooine. It was a huge base, in the middle of nowhere and it was one of the biggest and most powerful on the server. A few months into the game a huge gaming syndicate built a rebel base decently close by and for months it was constant war. We even had an on-call/watch system in the guild and I remember pulling shifts. if the base got attacked, we had a call order. it was the most realistic gaming experience ever and I miss it a lot.

God that sounds like some awesome PvP. :)

    The Dev Company: Turbine

    The Game Asheron's Call

    The Event Live Dev Events

Every once and a while Turbine Dev's in order to move a storyline along would bring out the main storyline enemy and control it and issue an alert in chat about the event and where to go to participate in them. My Fav Event was the Martine Event. No one could damage him and he killed players at random.

"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"

Mine was the day SWG launched, or there abouts.  I was hanging around Mos Eisley, and started to talk to a few people around me.  One told us they had found an Imperial base way out in the desert.  Anyway to cut a long story short we decided to go investigate.  After hours of getting lost, running from Squills, and other fun adventures, we made it there.  There turned out to be Bestine, including its nice new shiny shuttle service.

think i've replied to this exact topic before awhile back but here goes anyway lol

easily Everquest Online Adventures years ago they had an Orc raid on Freeport. for weeks random orcs would spawn in the lowbie town and just wreck low levels till a high level player would show up and kill it. we knew SOMETHING was going on and something big was gunna happen we just had no idea when. then one day a BUNCH of those orcs showed up lead by a group of named Orcs. to this day I still think the named was being controlled by gms, they was just too smart and didn't follow any sort of agro. they would target random people and just aoe nuke them wich one shot most people and they seemed to go after healers every time for the center target..lol

it was funny because for the weeks leading up to the actual raid, a few people thought it was funny to run through other towns shouting "the orcs are raidinf FP" several times a day...everyday. (we had no global chat in the game) so when they finally showed up it was more of the boy who cried wolf and no one believed us at first and took awhile for enough people to show up to fight back..lol by the end of it i had max exp debt but had more fun than i ever had in any other game :)

Best moment in my mmo experience is hands down; unlocking Jedi in SWG pre-cu, pre-jedi revamp (when jedi wore composite armor). Best feeling ever, nothing has ever come close to that.

This is hard, I can narrow it down to two moments.

    1)  Old Frontiers DAOC, 100+ Animists of all levels, mostly free level 20's with virtually no armor, formed up in front of AMG in emain and held off massive zergs of albs for about 2 hours.  Normally I am not a big zerging fan, but having 100+ animists popping 15 pets each.  It was definitely a sight to see.  For all that are curious, this took place on Lancelot.

    2)  1FG of us were headed down deep into NF POC to level some arties and ran into a big raid of 50 that didnt see us.  Blanket mezzed all of them and then bombed them.  Wasn't a whole lot of skill involved, but it sure was cool to watch haha.

Favorite moment by far was when our AoC mismatched guild of all ages, 15-61, and different nationalities finally beat Vistrix after about 5 months of trying. In my mind the best moments come out of interaction and not by the game itself.

All statements I make is from my point of view unless stated otherwise.

    Hm...I got a few favorites :)

    * In WAR, in a scenario as I was a squg hearder & faced the opposing faction range bowman on a little pathway, we both used our knockback spells and we both fell in the lava

-Also a moment in WAR, I was a marauder & a magus did his pull-in,I raged my keyboard and killed 8 people xD

*In Eve, I was being ransomed I didnt have any moneys to give them so instead we settled that I sang the Oscar Meyier song in their vent. I enjoyed it lol everyone was sporty.

-Eve:  I was being attacked by 3 people & they couldn't kill me. Spent a hour or so chatting in local had some good laughs lol.

-Eve: My first time  launching a bomb. Into a big gang of very small ships putting nearly all of them into structure(last HP bar left in a ship) & then prompted by 10 convo's & mails, all in were russian I had gimped translations and they said...well not to pretty words for them to be posted here.......1 mail was actually a threat.Lols.

Leveling for the first time in EQ1. The "DING" was Pavlovian.

Strangely enough the one memory that came to mind first when I read this topic was when I was playing LotR back in its early days.  Most of the epic quest lines had seemed rather easy until I got to the chapter where....

    *spoiler alert*

You confront one of the Nazgul and end up fighting him.  I had tried it in two previous groups and we were obliterated both times - several attempts in both those groups to no avail.  Upon the third attempt to take him out with a different group we did but it was still rather close. We literally defeated him just seconds before we were going to wipe due to low hp and no mana for healing.   That fight and the other quest line where you had to try and keep Legolas alive used to be tough as hell back in the day.  For better or worse, when I last played the game and went through those they apparently nerfed those events quite a bit for better or worse.  I was stoked though when I was in a group that was finally able to take him down.  A bit surprised that was what came to mind.  I would have thought something from EQ would have been at the forefront but apparently not.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I have a few, and they mostly involve WoW raiding lol.

    1) Raiding Onyxia for the first time when it was one of the hardest encounters in the game. Of course we didn't get her that try, but still it was really memorable.

2)Raiding BWL and MC with really funny friends

    3) LOTRO roleplaying. Great stuff.

All my bst memory were in EQ before luclin.  Raiding nagafen and Lady Vox with 30+ player, Kedge Keep, Unrest, Crushbone, Lguk ect ect ect...

I haven't found a single MMO that had this much of immersion since then... An of course, SOE had to destroy it all..

I can't forget moment when I tried to down Fel Reaver in WoW (BC).

Me and guildie spent hours trying to get him in to the Honor Hold fortress and eventually got him. Suddenly about 20 people came and start hitting him, we died, rezz, died again... but eventually we downed him:)

It was an truly epic battle.

There are tons of good moments, even on mediocre games you always get some good moments of them.

Around ten years ago, Everquest raid in Chardok one of the mobs flees and we cant finish him or follow him due traps on the floor, a few seconds later the mob comes with some friends, something like this:

Long history short... we won and was hella fun.

This guy 'Alfa' was attacking nearly naked noobs at the first goblin spawn after I'd been playing Darkfall a couple days. I started ranging him from tower range to hopefully annoy him into leaving and finding someone his own size to pick on. After a while of taunting him with emotes he actually ran into tower range to attack me. He was so well geared he actually didnt even get killed but did get down to 1/3 health, I ran out and finshed him off with my noob sword and bow. I stole enough gold and regs off him to last me weeks.

Best part was I even told him I had absolutely nothing of value on me. He went on to curse me for a while and then went emo begging for his stuff back.

"Never met a pack of humans that were any different. Look at the idiots that get elected every couple of years. You really consider those guys more mature than us? The only difference between us and them is, when they gank some noobs and take their stuff, the noobs actually die." - Madimorga

    Lineage 2

    - Playing my Shillien Elder ... I never had enjoyed playing a healer before

    - Finishing my Tier C set for my Tyrant. I dont even remember its name. But he looked so great in it ! IIRC I also had very beautiful first weapons.

    - When I created a maxlevel L2 Necromancer on one of these crazy xp Freeshards. Man, that class was fun to play around with.

    - Creating an endlevel Tyrant with +20 weapons on the same freeshard. Crazy dps ! Really fun lol.

    Rest is Vanguard:

    - Finishing my first set of heroic Tier 5 armor on my Death Cleric.

    - Getting my flying mount on my main character in Vanguard.

    - Finishing my Death Cleric Swamp Armor set in Vanguard... took me 1 1/2 years from first to last piece, as somehow nobody ever went there.

    - Killing the dragon at the end of the Vanguard raid dungeon Ancient Port Warehouse.

    - Finally having a complete APW armor set on my Death Cleric. IIRC I finished that one first, before getting the Swamp set lol. I mainly wanted the Swamp set for looks and soloing, though, so it was OK.

    - Killing off my Gnome Blood Mage and restarting him as Darkelf Blood Mage ... changing an incredibly ugly character into an absolutely gorgeous one. Yay ! In retrospection, I should have started as Blood Mage, not Cleric.

    - Playing my female Highelf Paladin in Vanguard. I didnt liked Highelves before and I didnt liked Paladins before, but this combo was just so beautiful. Sadly it was at the end of my MMO career in Vanguard, so I never even managed to get her an unicorn, let alone maxlevel or even just much grouping.

    Everquest year one!

My first boat trip and conversation with a dwarf.

"I hear there is a dock around here"

"yes follow the path and youll come to it..it has a jetty. stand there and wait for the boat to come in"

" thank you kind sir...by the way! how much does it cost?"

    " haha!"

Then i get onto boat with my RL friend and listen in to two other chars talking. And we hear the word "DRAGON"! oh my god there are dragons in this game? Five mins later the char in front of us suddenly turns into a dragon! we jump of the boat in the middle of nowhere!

When we finally get our stuff back after about 2 hours of swimming and searching we just sit on one of the islands and chat about what happened for hours. Must have been a GM on the boat with us.

Shadowbane - The siege of Bethla Garrison

War was all over the place. Our guild dominated the server somehow, with our total control over Dread Island. The game was still young, and strategies were still underdevelopped. Cities were still enormous. Then the first giant siege against our archenemy started as an offense against the city of Bethla Garrison.

It was enormous. The city walls were standing strong against our army of 250+ men. As a fury, I would take small crowds of elite squads over these walls (I had the ability to make a whole group fly) so we could massacre the defense. The siege lasted hours until some walls started crumbling. Victory!

Back in the early days, guilds had a pact of non-destruction to help them establish themselves on our server, so we did not destroy anything else than walls, and guilds were willing to build massive cities even though their 'Tree' could not protect all the buildings.

A month later, our guild split in two thus forming a civil war / guerrilla. Sieges stopped as players found out you could abuse the 'stuck' command to move across. Guilds would just use the bubble strategy, which consisted of stacking all of us on one character, creating a client-side lag when the computer of our ennemies would need to load all of our characters at the same time. We still had to restart our own client after few hours to get rid of the memory leaks. Our archenemmy would abuse a GM event to destroy our city. After that time, most player cities consisted 5-6 buildings protected by their tree not even needing any city walls. But still, great times :)

was playing EVE and sitting in gallente chat with MSNBC on the moment Barack Obama was declared President-Elect of The United States. I announced it to the room(most eve players are outside the u.s. and weren't paying as close attention to the results as we americans were) and, I gotta tell ya, it was a surreal moment.

Guess I'll go with the first one that came to mind:

    City of Heroes, Day One

Been waiting for the game for months, super stoked about a Super Hero MMO, make my toon ,running around Atlas Park checking out the lay of the land, and on some random side street, there's the Statesman ( Main Good Hero of the game) just standing there. Gives me a salute and just flies off. Total "oh shit" moment. Hooked my on that game for 3 years.
