I just went back and read some of the posts in this thread. How it is every conversation about WoW ends up being a "WoW Killer" prophecy thread? I don't get it. Why the big obsession with WoW being "killed?"
I think this obsession has more to do with 'who will snag the first position from Blizzard' rather than killing WoW. Kinda like in sports about who will break the next world record, or which hockey team is going to grab the Stanley Cup for this season

Purely a business motivation.
They want to create a WoW killer, i.e. a MMO that is as successful as WoW.
I dont think they would really mind if they actually kill WoW, i.e. if they manage to create a game that is that "good" (though I dont believe WoWs success has anything to do with quality) that people stop playing WoW and play their MMO instead.
Just as long as it would be as successful.
Personally I dont think its possible to create a WoW killer. Because it is not quality that keeps WoW players playing.
I am figuring WoW did not want any competition with the up coming RIFT: Planes of Telera, so Blizzard retreated quickly and change the face of WoW completely and they just hit the 12 million sub mark. I read a lot of the post on WoW community and a lot of them I mean a lot, hate this change and a huge some are quitting! As for me.... I am going to stay around for about one month and see how this unfold.
As for RIFT/Dev-team if you are reading this, be ready for a MASSIVE number of players mostly from WoW, I prey that the severs can handle the flooding on release day. If the severs crash do not panic.

Naw lol.. to make a game sell than that one it has to be easy to play. an friendly for everyone. people buy more wiis than xbox's, ps3's, lol. an people buy more nintendo DS than than any system out. if your little sister or brother can play it your mom and dad will buy it :P. Ratings sometimes matter also. E for everyone LOL. T for Teen. there are some M for mature games that sell good but not very often at all. so the next big game will be something your little brother can play also :P without having to think to hard. Rift prob wont be as easy as WoW so no :P
RIft isn't going to kill WoW, now that is just silly since all MMO's start off small and grow if they earn the respect of the MMO community and prove their worth. However one thing IS for sure and this is a fact... Rift is gonna give those players who just lost the ability to make their own hybrid class builds in the lastest WoW patch an even greater class customization option.
Choose an Archetype such as Warrior, Choose from 8 "Souls" (8 different warrior based classes) and mix and match up to 3 with a sort of talent point system. Heres to hoping this system is done meaningful!!! Will be playing this one on launch date!
lol Rift isn't going to do crap to wow. Wow can run on an abacus for one thing.
Why do people care that so many people are playing a particular game? Are they that insecure that so many people don't agree with their choice of how to spend time playing a videogame? I know it's nice to have your thoughts and beliefs validated by being around likeminded people, but this wowkiller stuff is pretty sad.
**inb4 gb2 wow, I've never played it past 30. Doesn't interest me.

(I'm parodizing the usual behavior of WoW-Fanboys, I'm not one of them, in case you wonder)
Um WoD wont come out 2011 or 2012 ... I think we are lucky if it would already be released in 2013.
