Still can't get Dragon Age to work

I bought this game two months ago. BOUGHT. I actually had it installed on my PC before I had to reformat some months ago. So I bought it off of Gamestop when it was on sale for $15 and every time I try to install it, my computer shuts down. My grandpa was able to install it on his and we nearly have the same specs.

I've done whatever I can think of. Deleting temp files, clearing up more space on my hard drive, but NOTHING will work.

Trubble shewting plawks.

halp

please

desperate to play mai gaeeeeem

    Have you played WoW?

If you have, imagine it in Single Player mode and that's what you're missing out on.

What errors come up when you install it?

  • When you say your computer shuts down, what exactly happens? Does it just shut off while it's installing, does it give you an error message? How far along the installation process can you go before it happens?

Did I not say my computer SHUTS DOWN.

I get no error messages. I get about 41% of one of the first packs it has to install. So not very far

  • Try installing a different game if you haven't already, see if it has the same effect.

    Try the usual suspects

    1. Download Malwarebytes and superantispyware and run full scans with both.

    2. Update ALL your drivers from the relevant sites. Don't count on windows update to keep your drivers up to date. Faulty  or out of date drivers can cause crashes under certain conditions

    2. Reset BIOS to factory default. Updating your BIOS can be risky but a solution as well.

    3. Check your fans for dust. Infact check if your hardware gets too hot

    4. Re-seat your ram and graphics card.

    5. It isn't clear from your post if you get the infamous BSOD or 'blue screen of death' when crashing so do this.

Right click on my computer > Properties > Select the 'Advanced' tab > and under 'startup and recovery' click the 'settings' button. This will open a new window, and under the 'System Failure' heading, uncheck 'Automatically restart.

This should halt it long enough to read what it says.

You could have a dying hard drive, faulty ram, faulty Windows installation or buggy software interferance. Any number of things. I don't think it's your PSU that's the issue if you're play games just fine and it only crashes during the installation process of one of them

The only things I have read relating to your problem is that you may have an older DVD drive. Try copying the files from the CD to a local temp folder and installing from the HDD. You will still need to use the DVD to play, but the issue is only related to installs.

    Hope it works.

Edit: Just an FYI - it looks like your GFX card is below minimum reqs. Not that it would have anything to do with your install problems or anything. But, DA:O is ugly enough without having to turn down the settings. The GFX are my only gripe.

I'm thinking It MAY be faulty windows installation. I don't have access to the computer at this moment, but I'll do these things.

And Dekron, I don't think I'm below minimum req. My friend has nearly the same specs and he can run max. And It was a download, there is no disk. I also tried getting a torrent and mounting the ISO to a virtual drive, still no luck

    Steam?

Also, I have read of some issues installing under SP3. Try setting the compatibility for setup.exe for DO to Win XP SP2. The min reqs say SP3, but there are some issues listed on the DA:O forums.
