The fact that if you work it, you get the best warfare simulation out there!
The fact that the developers actually play their own game, listen to players, and have no problem implementing player funded ideas
The fact that the developers holds sessions on TeamSpeak where you can listen in on their future ideas, ask questions and be a part of the whole community, not just the player driven part.
That the gameworld is totally open, all depending on how much you put into it, the more you get back.
The UBER damage models that are not pixel based, so it takes real SKILL to kill your opponent.
That the best player usually wins, less random stuff.
The incredibly cool flight part of the game, sawing wings off your enemy knowing that:
a) he is pissed off
b) you saved a buddy on ground or in air
c) what you did made a difference on a larger scale
And so on and on and on.
Its NOT all bad in our beloved game (trust me, the rats - the developers - hate me because Im a pain in their ass on their own forums, granted there is a lot to work on in that game. But it is STILL the best damn game out there!!!)
Comments
I love the forums. Playskool alone is worth the sub.
What I love about WWIIOL is the choice of units. Love 1 day to spawn in a Pz IIIH and the next day to grab a Stug.
I also like taking out Churchill's with a Stug! That APHE is nasty!
LOL no its not worth it. Szyporyn here posted a thread over in what we call playschool so expect a bunch of fan boys to be here soon to defend the crappy FPS play. There is no tactics there is no overall direction and there numbers are piss poor. We are talking like 7 players low pop time zones. And lets not even get into what there going to charge you to just do a month to month plan 17.99 for a still bugged game which is now useing its live server base to beta/patch test new ways to turn this game into quake.
I love the immsersion in the game. I love the era in which its played, an era thats probably most important in all human history. I like the rats, personally. I may not like many of their decisions but i think they are good people intent on improving tha game. I like the weapons they have available but sure wish they had more.
I ove the epic battles when both sides have parity and tactics and teamwork win the day. Sadly this doesnt happen as much as it used to. All in all this is a good game with good immersion. I dont see big crowds in there much anymore. And thats a shame. I think it really shines as an infantry game. Ifyou like playing infantry then for sure its worthwhile.
Its a good community as well.
It is a fun game to play but the numbers are too low. I bet if it were F2P there would be more people playing.
Zbus shows class
Dude you called a guy out on the game boards for posting here and suggested all the guys there go post here just to prove him wrong dont talk class to me. This is not the PS fourms with all its talking heads that kiss up to the rats in everything they do.
I dont know if you where around when the gave us the road map so many years ago. But can you honestly say they kept there word on anything they perposed back then. I gave them support for 10 years enough is enough. The only voices they hear over in PS is the guys that go along with there now flawed vision of gameplay. Anyone else posting gets a TOS or banned or there post deleted.
Hm, i think Szyporyns thread "disapeared" in PS. (which may be another example of rediculous moderation in PS)
Well, i can understand Szyporyns motivation to bring more players into the game - it is worth to suvive for shure. Even when i started the "What i dislike at BGE" i still think, that it is by far the best game idea among these genre (but heading the wrong way)
But let me say another aspect: for new players, the diversity and variety in the game is still overwhelming (only when you play for ages with the same equipment it is getting boring - plus i do stay to my other points)
I have played WW2 Online twice. Once back in the early days when the game first was launched and again about a year or two ago with my son. Both times, I enjoyed it. Much better game the second time around then the first. My son and I were even lucky enough to meet up with a really decent group of vet players that helped us learn/relearn the ropes. Our biggest problem with the game the second time around was not that the game was bad or unplayable or anything. We just could not get our friends and family interested in playing...even the trial version. So, we eventually quit. Too bad really as I thought and still think that WW2 Online has a lot of potential and is probably one of the true sandbox games.
Let's party like it is 1863!
zbus, you have some serious bitterness towards this game for some reason, if, as you claim, you gave it your support for 10 years it must have been doing something right, not many games hold people for that long and clearly you still keep your nose in the forums even now.
Just because you no longer enjoy it doesn't mean other people shouldn't give it a go, it gives you a free 2 week trial so what have you got to lose.
There's no other game like it that I know of, whether you want to charge into battle as an infantryman wielding an automatic weapon, find a good spot with the sniper rifle to pick off the enemy from a distance, stay even further from the battle as a mortarman dropping explosives or smoke onto the enemy, or maybe you want to grab yourself an Anti-tank gun and bring death to the enemy armour from 1-2 kilometres away, maybe you want to be in a tank, there's plenty to choose from, maybe you like to play more of a support role on the battlefield, you can drive a truck towing or ferrying other people into the battle or resupplying people with more ammo.
Maybe you prefer being in the air, the game caters for you too, there's lots of different fighters or bombers to choose from, you could join a group of other people and fly deep behind enemy lines to drop bombs on their factories, which hurts their supply of units reaching the front line.
There's so much depth to the game, there's so much more than I've mentioned above, it caters for everyone no matter what you style of play, give the 2 weeks free trial a go, what have you got to lose.
