Is is just me or do others feel that Blizzard "RUINED" each expansion that came before with a new one ?
I mean, you work very hard raiding, doing areana and BG's for that epic gear, only to have a new ex-pac come
out and wash all that hard work down the drain on your very first quest that gives you a green item as a reward.
Why do they have to have all the gear levels just blow the last games gear away .. I know i will have to replace that
hard earned gear eventually but after the first quest? Shouldn't that hard earned epics at least be worth Blue or
green gear at level 85? Why the HUGE leap for HP and gear levels after the first quest ?
Im so tired of feeling like they dont care about what they put out before and that all my hard work goes for nothing
as soon as they come out with another expansion. I can't think of any other game that does this. I wish Earth Rise
was launching when they said it would in Q4 =(

It's a good way to get new players to catch up. Consider it a "game reset".
Helps new players chatch up ? please , if my epics are worth greens or blues at 85 then by the time a new person gets to 85 they have caught up ... am i wrong ?
This.
They made the expansion and they want you to buy and play it. It's the new version of the game.
That's how they roll, so to speak.
I don't mind it and it does not seem as bad this time. Maybe I have been unlucky in drops but I still have 3 or 4 pieces from wrath on at 84. Also once a new player reaches 85 no they will not be caught up as by then you will most likely be in the 85 raid gear so they are still behind. Raiders seem to always get upset every expansion when their epeens get deflated for a few weeks.
I was mainly talking about the "hard work" stuff you have been going on about...You will change your gear at 81 so what, will it hurt your ego if you see another "noob" wearing the same gear as you? Do you want everyone else to see what you achieved until you hit max lvl? All MMOs are like that when a new expansion releases, if you change your gear at 81 or 85 makes little difference. They gave you achievements and their dates to brag about and grow your e-peen. That's more than enough.
All achievements have a date on them. Sure someone at 85 will be able to drop the lich king on 25 man heroic.. but everyone can see that it is post cataclysm.
Also, I mean do you really think that someone is going to raid for a full set of old gear? Many of my guild mates keep their old epic sets to wear not and again in town so show they are old school and achieved at a high level pre expansion.
Remember Old School Ultima Online
No, all games are not like that, ive played lineage II , EQII and more that have had a lot of expansions come out and none of them ruin the game before by bloated stats on gear,
and its not even close to the last game, you go from 9k HP with the regular game, then go to 20+ with burning, then 50+ with northrend, now i see mages with over 95+ HP after just 5 more levels its over blown the way they have the new stats after every expac
Nope.. But you're likely to gear up again much faster than a new player anyway.
But I understand your point. It's kinda silly to have quest gear to surpass your epic set But it's their way to keep the treadmill going for another 2 years.
Did you have fun doing that? If so, they assume you will have fun doing it again. Or you can look at it your way and be sour, personally, I am looking forward to having more fun acquiring epics - that's kinda the basis for 'fun' at the max level.
u dont get it yet, i dont mind and i know ill have to replace stuff, its that i dont feel i should replace stuff after the first quest, its like all that work for nothing, and its what it is, .. this game is starting to feel like its for little kids and they dont care the work you have put into things.
It happens once every 2 years and lasts about a week. QQ
Well, if you look the other way... You get a game where the newcomers never catch up... Or a game where the new gear is just as good as your current gear removing a good reason to keep you raiding every nights....
World of Warcraft was a great MMO before any of the expansions were released. I remember when BC hit the market, which I was excited for, and then I realized WoW no longer felt the same. BC eventually made me quit. When WotLK released I tried it out on my brothers account and again it made me feel like Blizzard was changing WoW too much. I miss the early days of WoW but I will never go back because of the expansions.
What are you talking about? Kunark came out and it didn't ruin old weapons and armor imemediately. Name one level 50 item that was better than the planar gear when kunark came out. If anything people were fighting in Kunark Castle and Sebilis for endish gear. And that stuff wasn't even that decent. Most of the Armor sets in Kunark had only AC with a right click ability. Whoop de do! There are items and weapons that I kept thru the Kunark expansion all the way thru to the Vellious expansions and so on. Ala Manastone, Epic weapon, Fungi Tunic, 7 string lute, Amulet of Necropotence..... on and on and on.........
To the OP ... That was my one huge problem with WoW. I quit ages ago but I remember alot of people got really geared up before burning crusade came out. That Trident thing or whatever, and soon as burning crusade comes out green con weapon drops and your like wtf.... all that tier stuff armor is just a waste compared to it. I came back during the lich king expansion and my cousin was pretty decked out from burning crusade and I figured they wouldnt mess up people like that again with having worthless teir armor compared to a green con pile... and what did i hear in my ventrillo when we did one quest in northrend..... GOD DAMN BLIZZARD DID ALL THAT WORK And a stupid green con BP is better than my tier set. Sadness.... nothing new pretty much knew cataclysm was gonna do that.
And to those of you saying how are the lowbies gonna catch up to the high end gear people theres gear out there just dont make a simple green pile of junk be better than a purple from the previous expansions.
Run to your treadmill little hamsters....
RUN RUN RUN
Well considering im a fellow bard and I know exactly what your talkin about. I can fully say this. With your last post you make it sound as if Singing steel was rainning everywhere. Now granted when the kunark expansion came out they did increase the drop rates on all mobs and stuff. However the stuff that was dropping was good for mid levels not guys who were level 50 and fully decked out from the planes. The drops were random items here and there to get people to shift to kunark however the only stats on Singing steel were on the Legs and the BP the rest was pure AC with a right click ability. For god sakes people were still using flowing black silk sashes when kunark came out. And necros giving thier pets ykseshas that was well into vellious. Epic weapons were in Kunark not to mention Bards kept Singing Steel Swords all the way up to planes of power until epics 2.0 came out...... anything else?
It's the EQ system and it's been used by most of the big MMOs.
AoC is the only recent big one I can think of that tried to break the mold by expanding outwards instead of up.
+1
Why people are still playing this after the first expansion I dont get.
This is why I don't play WoW...
I loved the old days of EQ where even 5 years later people were still raiding Naggy for the Cloak of Flames and Vox for her haste belt..
There's nothing like working hard for almost a year playing WoW and doing nonstop raiding to get fully Epic'd out only to have all the hard work and dedication go down the drain as soon as a new expac comes out..
Personally, I think all icc 25 epic gear should be the best gear you can get until you raid the hardest level 85 dungeon.. By replacing your epics with your first quest on the new expac is just a slap in the face of all the loyal dedicated wow gamers, lol..

To play devil's advocate,
What if, instead of playing it until it became like "work" you played it for the fun of it?
It just seems a bit sad that players are looking at their game play as work instead of doing it because it's enjoyable. And if it's not enjoyable, why do it?

I'm glad you brought this up before I did. I never quite understood the logic behind hardcore raiding or farming for epics. I play games until they become no longer enjoyable for me, or with the case of mmos, when they begin to feel too much like work to be any fun. I believe that Blizzard has realized that the main playerbase that's going to be sticking around consistently are going to be the casual gamers and the people who don't really care so much about the gearscore and the epic loot. Hardcore raiders eventually burn through the content so fast that they eventually get bored and quit until the next expansion, whereas the casual gamer continues to play because they have not yet completed the content and/or have not gotten bored yet.
So why should Blizzard cater towards the gamers who are going to get bored with their content in a month and quit the game anyways? It's sort of like the dilemma between me and FPS games. I love FPS games and I've played so many of them over the past years, but I never play them nearly as much as the hardcore fps crowd. When I play a newly launched FPS online, it's fun for about the first 2 weeks or maybe a month if I'm lucky. Then after that, once it becomes nearly impossible for me to even have fun and enjoy the game as I'm constantly dead by those who have much greater playtime and skill than I do, the game no longer becomes enjoyable for me and I stop playing.
So why do I bring up my horrible shooter skills compared to the hardcore crowd? Because, ultimately these shooter games are developed for the hardcore/pro gamer in mind. They don't care what I think or that I can't play for more than a month without quitting, because I'm not their target demographic or part of the crowd that generate most of their profit.
Similarly, Blizzard is not really targetting the hardcore mmo gamer here. They want a game in which people can continue play and pay money for because theyre enjoying it. They accomplish this by easing new/casual gamers into the game and making them feel like they're actually accomplishing something and being rewarded for it.
Don't worry. You'll be a special snowflake again by showing noobs and casuals how big your e-peen is soon enough. I do kind of agree that they went a bit overboard with the amount of HPs players and mobs now have.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
My 2 cents .. which happens to be correct.. lol
Anytime you have a game such as WoW that is gear driven to mean virtually everything.. It's part of that 500 pound carrot players are chasing.. Having hoops (aka raid tiers) to grind through to get to the next hoops is what it's all about.. Each expansion is a reset of the "end game".. Without it, you would have players stalled at earlier raid levels unable to find enough people to go back and raid lower raids.. Therefore, the entry quest levels of the expansion have to almost as good as previous epics.. It's one reason why you have many (not most) players claiming that some of the expasnion is too hard.. Those players might be entering the expansion zones with ilevel 200 and 219 gear, because they did not do any of the LK raids or LK 5 man heroics.. I suspect that some nerfing will be order when the new "alts" get to 80 and want to continue into 81 without farming LK dungeons and raids..
The problem here is the level system, it makes your gear useless whenever they add more levels.
Or the fact that gear is the main thing that matters in modern MMOs, you could spec horrible but if you have the coolest raid gear you are still doing fine in everything except possibly a few raids.
But that is just me as P&P player who thinks that character and character development should be the most important thing in the game.
And you just have to take Wow for what it is or play something else. My original green hornbow from GW is still as great as it always was. That makes other people upset since they can't get any new uber gear. You just can't make everyone happy.
