Looking for an EVE Online like game but on the ground

IrusIrus Member Posts: 774

I really love EVE Online in pretty much every aspect and I'll probably subscribe to it again once some "free 5 days and cheap 3 months" deal comes around. But I have one problem with it: it's always in space, and it's always in ships. I want a game like EVE but on actual ground so that I can freely move, explore, randomly bump into players instead of seeing icons on the overview, etc.; e.g., the benefits of ground based games.

I'm also pretty sure this doesn't exist but it's worth a try haha.

What I want to see that is also present in EVE:

- lack of a max level or max anything concept; wide advancement (being able to do more) instead of exclusively high advancement (being able to do the same thing better);

- (this isn't absolutely necessary, but if not present, there should be wortwhile PvE content of some sort instead then - I don't care for instanced PvP at all) open but regulated PvP. PvP where anyone can randomly attack you without any decent consequences is not my thing. EVE's division of high-low-null sec. and the mechanics around it, though, was perfect;

- world integrated complexity. I really don't know how to explain what I mean here. Things that go beyond typical combat-trade mechanisms, and things that pretty much should be unique to how every particular world works. In EVE, it's stuff like probing, directional scanner, jump bridges, planetary interaction, etc.;

- I do not want to see bind on anything except extremely rare and with a very good explanation, and I am in favor of fulldrop or full-lose on death/destruction, or similar systems;

- advanced crafting that matters;

- low/no instancing.

I don't care if it's fantasy or sci-fi. Decent graphics and animations are expected, although that's pretty subjective so I'll just say I'm not interested in playing UO in 2011, if things are really that sad I know where to look, and I kind of want something relatively new. Preferrably P2P without a bad cash-shop and it should be worth the money in terms of buglessness, polish and graphics quality. The game needs to either offer accessible betas or trials depending on what development cycle they're on, games that just launched won't work for me unless there's no client cost.

    Perpetuum is almost an exact ripoff of EVE, but with Mechs instead of space ships.

    This.

    Not sure if it's released yet, though. I don't think it is.

     Yep. Perpetuum basically has all that except that it did just launch. However, I was in beta and it was very bug free.

    I had the same issues with EVE. Loved the game mechanics, but wasn't to keen on being in space all the time. I've been playing Perpetuum since launch and it's great - should be just what you're looking for. It only costs $10 for 30 days and there's no initial purchase so it's worth a shot to see if you like it.

    Yeah, I forgot to mention that I don't mind games where you do not have to pay for the client. Modified the OP for that.

    Will certainly try it, thank you.

    When I saw the title I thought you were just promoting Perpetuum, lol, but yah that's almost exactly what you described.
