Rift Builds

I was curious to hear what peoples favorite builds are so far in Rifts. I have a Paladine/Champion/Beastmaster. The Paladines defense combined with the Champions offensive skills is a great combination for me. Having a pet that I can use as a bodyguard or a partner I can double team with is an added plus.

I'm liking the pyro/ele/domi build myself. I find it weak in PvP compared to other combos but it's quite fun.

I usually avoid tank types myself. I may try a tanking cleric like the Justicar just for kicks since it's out of the norm for me.

I've messed around with a necromancer/warlock/dominator who I got to level 21. It was basically this game's version of WoW's affliction lock with a polymorph spell. As far as PvE goes, it was pretty good. I didn't really get a chance to run any serious tests on it but I never had any serious issues fighting mobs, even some lower level elites. The pet would tank and I would throw up multiple DoTs and some of them would heal me. I've also had skills to heal other players albeit at the expense of my own health. All in all, I enjoyed that class.

In PvP is was a bit weak and I would get destroyed by rogues. But If I stayed with the main group I would offer a lot of help as I had 2 spells which lower the person's damage and lesser the amount of healing they recieved, which came in handy against those invincible clerics.

I've also gotten an inquisitor/cabalist/purifier to about level 13 and that combo was pretty sweet as well. Not only was I able to DPS pretty well but also had some decent survivability and could heal others. I was even able to tank some of those rift elites. Granted, I haven't gotten him very high, will do that during the next test, but I think that the clerics are a bit overpowered right now. It's like, they are a jack of all trades but they are great at all of them.

Since second beta I have run with a base druid maxed out justicar with any remaining points put into warden. The dps is not high but its ugly in pvp, had 3 on 1 at one point before they figured out that your better off trying to focus firing onto other targets and they did start to figure out you need to kill the pet.

Since they fixed the paragon class at  level one by adding an extra sword you can take as a reward in first quest.  I have been having fun with paragon with all the skill points you can put into it and extra bonus skill points in riftblades.

For mage type every skill point you can in fire with elemental on the bonus side for the earth elemental to help take the agro off you.

Warrior: Paladin/Reaver/Warlord...Awesome easy tanking PvE. Halfway decent PvP.

Cleric: Warden/Sentinel/Purifier..Great Healing. Shaman/Justicar/Warden. Insane PvE.

Rogue: Marksman/Range/Sabotuer. Decent PvE. I played Bladedancer/Assassin/Riftblade, haven't got it to really work for me, but it's really the spec that I want.

Mage: Necro/Warlock/Archon. Great PvE. Pretty darn good PvP.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

how many skill points you get at max level?

  • RelampagoRelampago Member UncommonPosts: 451

Cabalist sentinel was kinda sick.  During a rift invasion or clustered pvp drop a sigil on every combatant and when they all blow at the same time...kaboom

"how many skill points you get at max level?"

    66 I think.

I went full Stormcaller with a little bit of Chloromage for Bloom and Dominator for the polymorph...ahem...excuse me the "Transmogrify". It was pretty good.

I made my second role full Chloromage with a little bit of  Archon and the beginning warlock spells. I can't actually decide wich one I liked better.

I have a dual build that I like. I bought one extra spec slot so I can swap between solo/groups and BG. For solo/groups I run with Chloromancer / elementalist / pyromancer. Full points into chloromancer and  only 6 points in elementalist to get the (forgot name) skill that lets you recoup mana after a fight and of course the lvl 0 pet. Once you get 6 points into elementalist (5 in extra crit and 1 in anything you want) you can start dumping into pyro for some extra crit and nukes to compliment your healing. I have been able to solo lvl 23 invasions @ lvl 25+ . For BG's I swap over to Pyromancer / Archmage (takes 2500 bg points to buy) and just melt faces till i run OOM.

    http://www.riftrolebuilder.com/builder/?calling=cleric&build=warden.1231031301030213053105000:sentinel.303300501051005000:druid.2000

Pretty standard PvE healer build.  Set the pet to agressive and only turn on the autocast of the heal (the pet will not attack if the autocast on it's damage ability is turned off, only heal) to make it a healbot.  Don't bother resummoning the pet if it dies mid battle, it's expendable and honestly the 2 points in Druid gives a bigger benefit than 10+ points into Purifier would.  Use Warden heals primarily only using healing breath in Sentinel when needed, the Sentinel points are primarily boosting your heals, especially your area heals.  Using Healing Communion with Touch of Light and Divine Call on raids in between your standard Warden HoT rotations too.  The build has infinite mana, as Cascade gives you almost a full refill and it's close to impossible to run out mana in less than 2 minutes.

PvP (healer) build would have a few changes.  Mainly some moving of Warden talents to pick up talents like Unbound Steps, more points into Druid for Slumber and the Silence, and replacing Sentinel with Templar with a focus on CC reductions and survivability.

  • I've played all 4 callings (from beta 2 onwards), but put in much more time on my Cleric than the rest combined. My first build was Inq/Sen/War and I took that from 1-23. It was really solid, but not too much burst damage. I had tons of dots, tons of healing, and the AWESOME mana recovery beam from Inq.

I was trying to stay away from the pets (because everyone uses them) but I broke down around 23 and switched to Dru/Sha/Sen. All I can say is holy crap. My burst damage went through the roof, and my heals weren't affected THAT much. I really missed that mana recovery from Inq though, so I'm trying to figure a way to work it back in there.

I'll probably drop shaman to work inq back in there, but shaman and druid just go SO WELL together it's crazy.

I have all 4 roles unlocked and must have tried around 20 different resets. I took druid up to 26 to get the new faerie pet, and she was amazing.

Saboteur/Assasin/Ranger right now I like the 10 crit from asn/rng and loving the new mechanic from the sab I haven't played anything like it before.  The ranger pet is also nice for solo although it caps at level 30.

For my alt I think I will do chloro/lock/archon.

  • Also I forgot to mention before: Warriors are really fun.

I think every Warrior build should take Beastmaster, and put a lot of points into it. It works well for tanking, dps, and utility. It is just an amazing soul, and probably should be nerfed slightly. Paladin is hands down the best tanking soul, unless you need void knight for a specific fight. Reaver is listed as a defensive soul, but I really used it mainly for offense, so what do I know? =P

Saboteur / Ranger / PvP soul FTW

Level 20 Dom/Necro/Storm. Most my points are in storm for the high damage/AoE due to all the water/electricity combos. 8 points in Necro for the "Reclaim Power" ability so I can suck life from my skeleton to replenish my mana. I know that's an abusive way to treat a skeleton but someone's gotta be in charge. Haven't gone too far up the Dom tree.

Purchased a second role for a pure Pyro build because well.... fire is cool.

I played it safe and went with 3 that were suggested to work well. Has anyone tried a build that is more random and not 3 that Rift suggests go good together?

If you like winning in PvP, just roll anything cleric.  Currently very o/p'd.  On the same note...melee rogues are pathetic as it is.

Thats more at the lower levels before the DPS classes get some burst damage.

Necro/Chloro/Dom is a ball to play both solo and grouped.
