Anyone else get the feeling that the party is over?

It just doesn't feel right this time around.  I was bored 3 weeks in. Didn't  have any desire to start the hamster-wheel grind again.  Then on top of that, the community seems worse now than I ever remember it being.

*This is not intended to invoke the same old, same old "Tehy sold 4.7 miloone copees" or "12 miloone ppl cant b rong!" routines.

Just posting my thoughts.

This is called burnout, it's normal with games you've played for years and years.

Either your break wasn't long enough or it's time to move on.

I kind of get this impression from several people who are playing. It seems to be kind of 50/50 among the people who bought Cata. Me and a couple friends opted out of this expansion. For me, the party is kind of over. Not sure about anyone else, I expect there are 6.88 billion more people in the world that haven't tried WoW, so there's plenty of new people to replace us. :-)

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

The party has been over. Only people left are the 4 mill diehards in the game. It still is pretty impressive as far as numbers are concerned but it truely is time for Blizzard to give us something new.

I've been playing since Cata and I'm still having a blast. Six year vet here. I started on a new server to level a worgen druid and I'm not bored yet. Just won a VIP beta invite to Rift yesterday and only had time to download and play it today. Played to about level 8 and went back to gearing out in WoW. To each his own I guess.

You know what? I think I agree. Don't want anybody to tell me it's burnout. I know what burnout feels like thank you very much. Besides, have only been playing again for three weeks. Cata was not really for the long time players in my opinion. It's for a new crowd who want diferent things. Not having a go at Blizz or anybody who still enjoys it. For me the magic has just gone.  Have been playing the Rifts beta for the last two days with some real life freinds who are in the same guild as me in Wow. Was really surprised when they said they where finaly getting board with warcraft as well. Have had some great times with it and whatever has been said it's not changed that much in my opinion.  I think I have and just want something else from my mmo of choice that Warcraft just can't provide anymore.

Sounds like burnout to me. I'm not one to defend WoW but the feelings you're getting aren't from WoW alone- you're just hitting the end of your enjoyment for that particular game.

MMOs are great the first couple or three alts through- you try each faction, different types of characters, level through different areas and see new things. You hit endgame then raid or PvP (seems to be the extent for most, there are always choices to craft or get achievements I suppose but those don't strike me as endgame-focused activities so much as diversions) but especially after WotLK the gear treadmill and grinding heroics and raids ad nauseum has gotten very, very old (to me)- but back to you- burnout.

Best advice is to take a break or move on to another game, that's how it works. No MMO is going to last someone forever and no matter how much a game changes content with expansions the core mechanics and base classes don't change, which gets boring.

The part is NEVER over in WoW. Thats why everyone leaves to try all the new games, and in 2 months there right back. me included. They do it right whatever it is they do. Don't fight it.

Coming back to Cata, I actually felt the game was TO polished. If that's even possible. It felt to neat and complete, seeing old azeroth all sealed up and glitch free and re-done. It ruined some of the charm an MMO has, when you can fall through floors and enemies glitch out. It made the game special. The dungeons, they are to refined and set in stone, it leaves no room for players to think of creative ways to maybe avoid waves of enemies or beat bosses.

I really don't know what I'm talking about, but that's the only way I can describe how I feel about WoW.

What this guy said. I find it funny that people have to play other MMO's while they wait for another...it doesn't have to be that way.

Community is killing this game for me.  I had fun leveling my toon from 80 to 85, but once i hit 85 and had to team up to do anything meaningful, i quit, cant stand that community anymore.   For example you queue for a dungeon, take like an hour unless your a tank or healer only to get in a group of 12 years old who dont know how to play.

Burnout is when your bored of a game, or a whole genre (MMO in that case).   I was not bored when i was leveling up, it was actually fun, but all that fun stopped when you hit the cap and have to deal with that horrible community.

Wow, i can pretty much agree with every single thing you just said. lol I'd add that i didnt find any of the content itself boring.

However i think it was easier for me to leave the game than it would be for others since i played it for 6 years.

Party was over for WoW ever since TBC launched...

  • BarCrowBarCrow Member UncommonPosts: 2,195

I played for years. Mostly PvE and battlegrounds. No raids or arena. Enjoyed it all through WOTLK.. Stopped playing for over a year then bought Cataclysm. Played through the Goblin starting zone (meh). Then played through the Worgen zone which was really cool. Once i hit darkshore i  just couldn't muster the desire to log on for more than a few minutes. Maybe i'll go back and play to 85th level...but I don't know. I do know that I've played more hours in the last few days of stage 5 of the Rift beta (the first time I could get a key) than I have Cataclysm content. Granted I'm only level 15th but I am really enjoying it immensely. May sub..who knows.

Can't say if it's over for good, but for now it's over... don't have any desire to play right now.

  • marinridermarinrider Member UncommonPosts: 1,556

I have to agree, I bought cata back at launch for some reason (thinking I was going to play it I suppose), and I still have had no desire to reactivate my account.  But I've been though WoW burnouts, and this is not one of them.  Cata just seems to bland and boring for a "cataclysm."  Just something about it isnt like what it was back in the days Pre-bc, or even in bc / wrath.

Oh well, time to move on to better pastures.  And to be honest, I'm glad I'm finally rid of that trash.

I had not been playing for a while but bought Cata, leveled to 85, farmed a good gear set, got bored and quit. It's the same old crap all over again. Blizz can only polish a turd soo many times. Uninstalled and never going back.

I feel the same way as many of you. This will undoubtedly be the last expansion pack I buy for WoW, and my last month of subscribing. The magic, which has slowly dwindled away for me over the years, is finally gone. It's just feeling like a menial job now.

Canceled sub tonight. Played since 1 month after launch. Shaman since vanilla. Cant do it anymore. Cant put my finger on it exactly other then the fact WoW, and every other mainstream mmo(yes, I have tried every single one) dont do it for me anymore. The shiny for me hasn't just worn off WoW, its worn off the entire genre.

Will I still come to mmorpg.com to see whats what and whos who? Sure. Will I be playing any mmo in the near future. No.

OP, there are over 6 billion other people in this world.

The party goes on for 100.000 years already.
