I've been bored recently with the same old fantasy grind and was wondering if anyone recently had tried re-installing an old game like Freelancer w/ mods and if the experience was enjoyable. So far from what I've seen it looks like their is still a community for the game, even years after its release. My interest was sparked by a comment in a recent Kotaku thread regarding BSG online (which there is a mod which creates the universe for Freelancer - http://www.bsg-galactica.com/)
I've also been looking through this mod site: http://www.moddb.com/games/freelancer
Thoughts? Suggestions? Currently I'm just hoping with a mod it would allow for LAN play and work on Windows 7 64bit...

A while back my buddy tried to run Freelancer and said he couldn't find any multiplayer servers. Weather or not he was doing it wrong is up to debate but if I were you I'd do some digging and see if there's still a way to connect to the multiplayer stuff.
Be sure to let me know if/how. I have fond memories of that game and wouldn't mind playing it again.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
