I am sitting waiting for Thursday to play RIFT. I have played several mmo's in the last 12 years and for the 1st time since EQ1 I felt like I was being pulled into a world. Not everyone will like RIFT. The fan-boy-craft players are in tears and bashed it all through beta. If you don't like it ..it's ok. Love the PVP-PVE and the RIFT invasions are just simply sweet. Bash RIFT all you want . 6 months and no one will even remember...what was the other coice you had .... ?

Agreed- I preordered Rift after beta 6 because it just genuinely felt fun to me. I haven't been able to play Xsyon but I've seen numerous youtube videos and it just seemed boring to me. For those that enjoy it though, no insult to you- have fun and I'm glad you found your game!

Haha you're probably right... and really that's the sad part. There's not enough "thinking games" out there, especially in the MMO department, mostly because there's not enough "thinking" gamers. Which is why these games will most-likely never escape niche status.
LOL Rift is a turd but Xsyon isn't... Hey i love Xsyon's concept and with a few more years it might be playable but to call Rift a turd is laughable compared to the state Xsyon is in.
Best Regards and happy Hunting...
And what is inovative about Xsyon anyways, it's a really poorly made sandbox game and is doing nothing out side the box..
Or is this your first go with a sandbox type game?
I have plenty of experience with sandboxes. I've played UO(2A), Haven and Hearth, Wurm, the whole lot. I see innovation in Xsyon in the details of the game. Sure it may be unpolished but you're mistaking what I'm saying, Rift is a "turd" to me because it's a boring, outplayed, overdone, rehashed design in a just as unoriginal lore setting not doing anything original not paying attention to details. Xsyon is trying unpopular (but good) things with gathering, completely player-driven world, player interaction and cooperation and a cool setting. And it's not poorly made, I've seen poorly made and Xsyon is in really good shape for the size dev team it has.
I could say the exact same thing about Xsyon.. Unpopular doesn't make it good and haveing a completly empty world with out even a chicken is not inovative, The size of the Dev team might explain why it's in such bad shape.
UO PvP worked in '98 and Xyson can't figure it out in 2011.
There's nothing Xsyon does better then any other low budget Sandbox title except giving people who want to live by themselves a place to call home.
"It would be awesome if you could duel your companion. Then you could solo pvp".--Thanes
They look both ok. But I won't buy Xsyon as of now, as I have doubts in the server stability and stuff, so I will wait until the worst bugs have been fixed, and then have a look again whether I think it's worth purchasing. I guess I'd have fun playing Rift for a while, but so do I have fun playing many other games, so I won't get it either.

You obviously don't knwo what you're talking about. It's very challenging to strive, let alone survive on your own in Xsyon. So before you go talking about it's flaws, how about you play it to a point where you understand the fundementals of the game? And if you'd read at all, you'd know that the Xsyon creature spawners have been turned down temporarily while they fix the lag issue and after the final whipe they're adding 20 or-so new creatures into the game. So please, shhhh.
i like how people bash Rift for using the 'same old unoriginal' high fantasy setting, then people come along and compare Xyson to Terry Brook's 'Shannara' books. if you don't already see the irony there, then you have never read them, or have a very thick skull.
i understand it's 'post-apocalyptic' but unless Xyson has ancient fairy creatures, druids who practice magic, dwarves, trolls, gnomes, demons, magical talismans, and a slew of other mutations and monsters, then there is no reason to compare it to the Shannara books. a better analogy would be something like the movie 'The Postman', to compare Xyson to.
the main theme of the Shannara books is the power of magic, and how it changes the owner. this is the theme in EVERY Shanara book. post-apocalyptia seems to be where the similarities between Xyson and Shannara end. but maybe i'm wrong, and in Xyson i can make a druid, study at a druid's keep, and speak to ancient spirits in a haunted lake who will show me how to recover some magical artifact that can save the world. maybe i just misread the info..
Terry Brooks is awesome, Xyson looks fun and interesting, and i will be playing Rift, because oddly enough, i actually LIKE magical, fantasy worlds, and play games that i enjoy. imagine that...

No it's not hard to live in Xsyon, if you get hungry then log out and make a sandwich.
I get what your saying and i agree that Sandbox games are fun in there own right, and Xsyon has a great base to that style of gaming. The crafting has depth and it's very hard to get anything done without trade or massive amounts of time standing ontop of junk piles...
I do respect the concept so i'm not going to bash on the game and hope they get a decent amount of sub's in hopes that someday Xsyon will have enough funding to put a little more time into it and polish it up a bit. I could care less about the graphics, i still play my UO accounts from 13 years ago on Catskills, but there's still alot of work that needs to be done i feel before i'm willing to put that amount of time and care into a game like Xsyon.
I hope you enjoy it and trust me when i say i have spent countless hours reading up on Xsyon and watching the how too videos on you tube so i'm not completly talking out my ass, but to call Rift a turd cause you don't like themepark games doesn't make Xsyon a better game play then Rift...
"It would be awesome if you could duel your companion. Then you could solo pvp".--Thanes
Well Xsyon story is basically the beginning of the Rifts storyline - an apocalypse happens and then during the new dark ages mankind slowly grows back to power while the "outsiders" are slowly seeping into our world and conquering it.
... and "Rift" has nothing whatsoever do do with "Rifts" except name similarity which got it into some minor trouble with Rifts copyright holders.
But all that aside... Sorry, I find it really funny that those two games are now in "competition" of any kind. Imo they are in two completely different categories and hitting different player funny bones. They are not "hamburger A" vs "hamburger B" - more like hamburger and milkshake lol.
I actually bought both...im going to play RIFT mostly and wait for xsyon to get some updates. I bought Xsyon because its super neat and i want them to flesh it out more.. ill probably play off and on with my girlfriend because she bought a copy and she loves it.
I will be playing Xsyon. Having beta-tested Rift extensively I have found that it makes the same evolutionary jump from WoW that WoW made from EverQuest (approximately 2 inches). There’s nothing to see here other than cute graphics.
Xsyon is quite unique and original, it offers far more immersion.
Realy depends of player's play stile. If you would like very polished, AAA mmo go Rift. If you like indie MMO's, do something different for a change, but don't mind the bugs, and some other problems that come with that type of development, go with Xsyon.
Xyson is the better game in a lot of ways and represents to me more where this genre should be going by now (and would be if other games were designed by passionate players rather then accoutants and venture capiltalists).
But, a lot of people want virtual knitting simulators with convienience and heavily structured guided play in their play experience, so sadly Rift will win this vote (though maybe not by so much as many would assume imo).
Xyson should really be admired though for what it has achieved.
I'm betting the same people voting for Rift right now will be substituting Rift for Guild Wars II later this year, I bet the majority of the Xsyon voters will still be playing Xsyon though...
Rift brings nothing new to the table. At 1st, when I played Rift, I thought the class system was a nice change from WoW where you have to follow a strict build and be a robot teaming up with other robots to work as one big robot. I still think the system is nice, but that's all it has. The rifts got old extremely fast, the dungeons are WAY too easy, and the way it's built does seem to allow it to have a community like WoW where it all feels connected.
Xsyon on the other hand is somewhat of an original concept. Scavenging through scrap piles, looking for the materials you need to survive is a post apocalyptic world with you tribe. Having an alignment system(not that it's that advanced) for tribes is something fresh, almost reminiscent of pen and paper DnD.
If I were to play a game like Rift, even though the graphics don't compete, nor does the class system, WoW is overall a better polished game with much more content to go through. Rift certainly doesn't win any battles. With only promises of endgame content and thin gameplay that won't let me bare more than 45 minute increments at a time, I'm going with something that is conceptually more original than what is on the table right now. IMO of course
I derive my strength from passion. Do you feel that? That is what seperates you and I, Jedi!
Heh, the irony. Xsyon fanbois appear to be even bigger fanbois than Rift or DCUO ones. People seriously lack the ability to self reflect.
It wil be interesting to compare the poll result with the actual sales and sub numbers of Rift and Xsyon, I guess we'll see how much the general MMO playerbase differs from the small secluded group of MMO posters here on the mmorpg.com forum.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."

Sales really determine quality. That's why all the shitty blockbuster movies get big money in the box office, while all the good independent movies are released in small, art theaters? You mentallity makes me cringe. I'm certainly not a fanboi of any game right now. I just prefer it over Kesha and The Black Eyed Peas.... I mean Rift.

I will be getting Rift, my main decider is that my friends are also getting Rift. However, if I had the money I would have liked to try Xsyon, I have heard nothing but good things about it.
I play LOTRO in subscription mode. I can't stand the free mode limitations. Hopefully AoC will stay subscription mode as well, or otherwise it'll follow a hybrid model as LOTRO. EQ2 I subscribe as well. The rest, I don't care.

what I find funny is you have 3 pages of OMG Xsyon!!!!
then Rift if kicking the shit out of it in the poll like 40+% to 20+%......
very confusing, a lot like why I didn't capitolize anything in my post..

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Hehe, one thing just occured to me..
Remember that old pen and paper RPG Rifts?

Rift = WoW clone
Xsyon = Awesome sandbox
If you like WoW-like games but you don't want to play WoW, then play Rift.
If you like sandboxes then play Xsyon, you won't be dissapointed.
Rofl..
Rift wins this battle.

i'll wait for other mmorpg to be released.
Which FF Character Are You?
I will be getting Rift, my main decider is that my friends are also getting Rift. However, if I had the money I would have liked to try Xsyon, I have heard nothing but good things about it.
Between the two, Rift for me, I prefer my MMOs complete.
EQ2
POTBS
LOTRO
Champions
DDO
AOC (soonTM)
This is list of high quality western MMOs that are free to play ...
So tell me why should I pay 50+15$ to play a MMO that brings nothing new to the table ? Nothing i dont have in above MMOs ?
Xsyon on other hand...
Its to early to plunge in. But down the road it may be worth a sub.
I play LOTRO in subscription mode. I can't stand the free mode limitations. Hopefully AoC will stay subscription mode as well, or otherwise it'll follow a hybrid model as LOTRO. EQ2 I subscribe as well. The rest, I don't care.
