LFGame that is... balanced

AceOfSpade90AceOfSpade90 Member Posts: 88

Yo, my name is Ace Of Spade, from the 90's.

I always been a fan of RPG's since... well, I don't know, since I know.

I played video games since I was 6-8 years old, from simple kiddy games that was avaliable when I was a young lil'kid. I think the first game I played in my long history of gaming is... Tetris (the original one) on a gameboy. Yeah, that 8-bit music still drives me nuts... it's like the music that made me what I am today... a fat virgin bastard that lives on his parents basement surounded by empty cans of energy drinks and plastic bags of burritos...

Just kidding... I'm not fat. xD

Anyway. My first RPG that I played was Mystic Quest... the ORIGINAL... for the gameboy has well. I think I beated that game for like... hundreds of time, knowing every lil'thing about it. Back in that time, I didn't care much about it... actually it was my older bro that got it. I tried but I was a little bugger eating kid with no clue what the hell I was doing or where did babies come from.

Then my bro got a PC in 1998 with windows 98 and a pack with 300 little games. That is when I got to taste some gaming... along with a Master System or a Mega Drive/Genesis Console with famous ecco and sonic titles.

I grew older until Playstation appeared and I played a few games too... including final fantasy 7. I was like "woah, this is actually addicting and fun!", followed by a b*ner... wait, too much information?

After that, I was amazed by such kind of games... followed by a long injection of Pokémon (the coooool 150's) when they appeared. I mean, I WAS a kid.

My older bro decided to put internet on the PC back then. When I was around 10-11, I was like "internet! COOL! Now I can play chess online!" (now I facepalm, but back then, I was like... a kid in a candy store?)

After a year or two, my PC was not "online" anymore because of some drama related to mIRC or something because of my bro beying a teenager.. you know, puberty and stuff that kids nowadays scream just to grow hair on their... ya know where I'm going with this. Anyway, the point is, I got offline for quite a few time.

I continued to play single player RPG's even though the "internet" and "playing with people" was not on the list of things I could do at that moment.

In 2005, I got internetz again. That is when I explored "games"+"internet"="even more fun" theory deeply. My first REAL online game was Age of Empires II when the servers belonged to MSN zone or something. I had a blast but not a long "yippy". Then I tried RPG+internet=MMORPG. That is when I got the "Hell ye'" on. I tried the "Free to play" category and had fun... but never REALLY leveled anything usefull or tasted it deeply... just scratching here an'there.

My first and REAL MMORPG I tried was... Guild Wars, when Eye of the North just got out. I was in school and I heard a guy "Hey, why don't you play a REAL mmo, like guild wars?" And I was like "Guild Wars? What is that?". I played Prophecies, then I tried Factions and lastly got Nightfall. It was fun but... I "struggled" to get gear or to even accomplish something. Don't get me wrong, I like challenges, it makes the games last but when it falls into the category of "un-funny grind to accomplish X" isn't really the way to go for me. I like fun things.

After a few months, I heard a school mate talking to the other about... herbs and making gold... which I was HORRIBLE at guild wars. I asked "Gold? Are you talking about Guild Wars? I seriously need to learn to earn gold in that game". The two nerds *coff* I mean, school buddies, snorted and smiled and say: "Isn't it obvious? We are talking about World of Warcraft!" I was like "?" and I asked: "Can ya tell me more about that game?" but the nerds just ignored my questions and decided to talk about... gold and herbs. The other guy that played Guild wars with me said: "Ignore that... World of Warcraft sucks" and I said: "But dude... you don't even play Guild Wars anymore! I have been alone in that game since a week after I bought it because you never got online!". Then a argue started about the dude havin'a life and some worthless stuff...

Finally, there was this day that I set my foot down and gave up Guild Wars because of the reasons I told before. PvP was NOT fun, there was no real economy, I felt like I was alone because of that instanced world... I mean, cmon, most of the time I was playing with bots and had a huge interrogation point above my head each time people talked... and it wasn't a quest!

So I tried more free to play games... until I finally decided to give that very infamous bad game named "World of Warcraft", it was Burning Crusade time.

I loved it! It filled the empty-ness in this thing you guys call a heart... but I call it a black-A-hole... wait wut? How do you fill your A-hole with a video game? Stop trolling!

It had economy, the game was not a grind to level, there was cool races... the graphics could be better but I was like "meh, it's unique though". That time I finally understoud what those nerds talked about years ago... herbs and trading for potions and gold! Of course... one of the dudes was herbalist, selling to the other dude, probably a alchemist that did potions for the AH and splitted the profit with the herbalist! All makes sence!

I had a blast with wow... but then I stopped after Icecrown, never even completing it... not because it was hard, since everything was "given" to everyone, casuals or non-casual, but because it was... well... repetitive: "Level with a quest helper, do some instances, get your marks for better gear, find a guild, flirt with the guild leaders, offering s*xsual attention to them so that they could put you on their raids, do their raids, fail a dozen and do even more raids with some idiot babling on Teamspeak or other chat... program about how important it is to stay in position and do simple things like... standing out of fire or moving here and there or staying away from that an'that... things you should know but still people fail and you have to pay because people lack common sence, get more marks for even better gear and STOP! Mana time... I mean... Waiting time for next content."

I didn't even tried deeply into PvP because that... excuse my language, sh*t is a bunch of people crying over unbalance and people standing in middle, gaining honor points instead of doing what is... well, intended in each scenario. If in PvE, people lack common sence, imagine a bunch of people that also lack common sence... but they still earn for beying... ignorant fools.

I even tried Roleplaying in World of Warcraft but it is like watching kindergarden kids representing a play of Shakespeare: Or they fail or everyone wants to be the top bad/good guy of the script and they start a fight about how charlie bit my finger instead of taking a pile of sh*t from Justin Bieber.

I tried Aion in the middle of that WoW fever.

I have no comments to Aion... I DON'T LIKE MINDLESS GRINDING! but the customization system haves a awsome 10 out of 10! Flying system was a complete fail to me... why add time to fly and recharge? Why not fly all the time you want? SERIOUSLY?!

Then I stopped with the MMO's for a few months, played a few single player RPG's because I turned into a Lore fanatic of videogames. (And I still am a little).

Of course, when you leave a addiction... there is a urge to return smoking... I MEAN.. play MMO's.

I tried DC online Universe.

First I was like this: =D

Then I was like: =O

Then I was like: =S

Then I was like: -.-"

Then I was like: Double facepalm.

And it took only one week and a half.

I was like

"hero mmo? AWSOOOOOOME! Let's break the ice of fantasy mmo and do some fighting crime dudes or son of a b*tch with bad attitude or with mental issues!"

"Coooool powers! I want to be with joker! I mean, how cool it is to blow stuff and laugh at someone's face? I'm going to make a super powered Mime! Oh oh! Mental powers! Hand blast! gogogogog pew pew pew!"

"Wait... where is the customization? Where can I pick my char face? Wait what?! I can change skin, even color but I can't change that face? So what... I have to be a midget, a regular guy or a bison?! Seriously? 2010 anyone?!"

"Cool, The flying system is great, the fighting system... not soooo great and why I have the feeling this belongs to a console? Ohhhhh right... SONY. Silly of me."

"Oh cool! My first instance! I wonder what I must do or go... *team mates run around kickin'brainiac forces and spreading around on their own, one each side* oh... okay... so who is the tank? I'm a dps... who heals? *no answer or clues* Meh... *Joins the mindless destruction* Oh wait! I'm dying! HELP HELP! *dies* Where is a healer when you need one and why the hell there was no tank doing something about this huge cloud of enemies? AFK? Oh right... no answer... of course... and why there is no healer? Wait... your telling me you are all DPS'ers?! How did we even join up then? What kind of system is this that joins four DPS'ers in a single team with no healing or tanking super-powers?! *sigh* This is going to be a loooooong game"

"Yay... got to level cap in... two days? What is this... guild wars? Well, it MUST have a huge end game content then... ... ... ... WHAT?! More instances with random clueless dudes like me with no healing or tanking powers, buggy instances and... ... wait... Maybe I can be something else than a DPS... I'm mental so... I can be controller! yeah! Going to search that up! *reads* Wait... so your telling me that they didn't fix the major controller skills of Mental? So what I'm supost to do has mental controller? Nothing? I can't even boost the power of my team mates because the skill is BROKEN! It doesn't do anything but wasting a spot of those 6 skill choice loadout! That is it! The game is officially dead to me!!!111one!!! ... ... Oh look, a double rainbow!"

So yeah... that's my story...

What I'm going to do now is telling what I look foward in a new mmo I wish to play. Bold stands for important points like a "MUST HAVE", italic for a "would be cool but if it is not possible, meh". No bold or italic means just points that I think would really be nice and wish it would be possible, but if not, then I will be a little pissed.

Resuming:

- I want a big world to explore. Not a mini golf.

- I want high level caps and to live EVERY level I reach... but not to stay TOO much on it... so that I don't feel like I'm just leveling slowly and missing something in late levels.

- Character Customization... I'm a very creative person and like to feel unique.

- A world where I feel I belong in a vivid world with PEOPLE... not a world that would be full but everyone is already in end-content or the game just doesn't have... people on it.

- World PvP... Where I can level and be worried to be attacked by someone... but not a gang feast, just normal average assaults.

- Races... because I'm already human anyway.

- NO INSTANCED PLACES LIKE GUILD WARS! FOR CRYIN'OUT LOUD! I WANT A MMO, NOT A BOT FEAST! (That doesn't mean I'm againts instances... but not the world! leave the instances to those group/raid quests with PEOPLE, not bots)

- Balanced economy... I don't want things EASILY GIVEN... but not a big grind feast... and I put this in italic not because I don't mind beying easy (I hate easy games) but because I don't mind beying a harsh economy... has long it is understandable.

- If there must be grind, then the grind MUST be fun! What is a fun grind? Well, something that ain't toooo much repetitive but always a new experience each time you do... whatever you must grind.

- Freedom on your character movement... I don't like to be a slow character stuck on the ground in that... floor... boring floor.

- Good graphics... don't worry, my PC can handle it!

- It doesn't need to be inovative... like I know many people just want something new... all I want is something playable, balanced and... complete (for me... complete is something that haves the points I'm telling, because there ain't no perfect mmo, for too long).

I think that is all.

Between, I know some people like to bash games and stuff... I don't blame. I bash games too when I don't like them... but I keep things realistic, with a touch of sarcasm, based merelly on -MY BIG FAT GUT-... I MEAN... my experience inside the game.

What I mean is... no bashing skulls or hating on something you never tried... ONLY if you tried and you have proof.

Thank you for reading my LONG post.

~Ace of Spade, from the 90's

P.S: I know it is supost to be "Ace of Spades" the correct way of saying but like I said... I'm unique... from the 90's.

Thanks for the humorous read.  From your bullet list it looks like your primary concerns are open world, non-instanced, pvp with meaning.

My only suggestions would be EVE or Darkfall.

EVE wasn't really my cup of tea so I can't really comment much there.  I tried a couple times, but found myself auto-warping to auto-mine asteroids to try and make money.  All the while my skills were auto-training in the background.  I was spending hours a night just warping back and forth from base to asteroids to mine.  I got bored really quick.  Darkfall, I wish I would have liked it.  First person view actually breaks immersion for me.  I don't need full zoomed out mode, over the shoulder is fine.  I only played  a couple days in the trial.  So, look to others for better explanations.  I think one of those may be up your alley.

I have too looked for that utopia of a game... and i'm yet to find it... But... there is one game that i'm currently waiting for... and funny how your topic barely mentions it's title.... it's.... guildwars 2, ofc the release date isn't out yet... but my bet would be at the end of the year or at the start of the next... either way, you'll get to play before dec 2012... so it's all good :) , being a fan of mmorpgs it was hard for me to find something that could replace the addiction... but I did find something to play before GW2... league of legends.. plain and simple action / pvp / fun... check it out and perhaps you won't need to search anything else for now...

I looked on EVE through the reviews and like I said... I don't bash games I never tried. Still, I am concerned.

I heard you take DAYS to learn... what they call skills? So, it doesn't matter how much time I spent on the game but how much time I have the game? Kinda reminds me of ogame... only without a browser and some stuff. I heard they scam new people has well. That must be harsh. And you spend the most of the time at space and not actually inside those stations or planets? I'm confused about how "amazing" people say it is. You spent your time on a ship, digging or doing some missions about killing pirates or beying a pirate and kill... whatever protects the universe. So the fight is basically what and how?! I'm terribly confused about if this game is awsome or just... sloooow.

I read the reviews and I was like: "Okay, so your inside a ship from thousands you can buy and customise? Cool... I can see the universe? Awsome... Can I visit planets and space stations and actually see my character? Yeeeeeeeeeeah... about that... I can say the game is unique and quite awsome but I think I would be bored because I would spent my time looking at... SPACE and dots... that are planets or spacecraft like stations and stuff." Correct me if I am wrong and explain the game to me if you can like I was REALLY dumm... or maybe I am dumm and fat... wait... maybe not fat... but dumm.

Darkfall I was amazed by the promises of doing a world, basically! What I didn't like was the part that they compared to oblivion in terms of... combat and how the reviews told there was odd things in the UI. I checked has well and I was like: "What a weird UI... and gameplay. I like how they say you can build and do anything but I don't know if I want to interact with those creations made by me or anyone by using this gameplay or UI!"

About Guild Wars 2, I don't see how I talked about that game when I typed the topic. I think Guild Wars 2 haves a high "hype-rating" than anything else. I mean, Guild Wars Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall and Eye of the North stand for things I don't like in a MMO: Instanced world, weird economy based on years of mindless grinding... kinda like a "much to buy... expensive has a hotel room near a V.I.P. beach EACH item/gear and a part time job at a fast food restaurant... burguer... griller dude... I don't know... never worked on that or heard anyone that worked on that." If guild wars was something I am not proud of telling I wasted time there... why would a sequel of the same game be... better? Wouldn't they focus on the same kind of... things but improved, like... uh... better bot AI when grouping with them? Bigger instanced zones? Weird economy V2.0 with Grind-o-my-Gawd V2.0? Just saying... I don't know and I think the game just haves a huge hype for beying... guild wars.

About League of Legends... I already played it. Still have it. I would totally play that but that ain't a MMO... more like a "oooooo let me take a break from X game, so let me pick shaco and shake a few heroes while I have to watch my back for -evul- rat-with-crossbow-that-I-forgot-his-name-but-is-stealthy-like-politicians-when-they-want-to-raise-taxes"

  • I'm actually going to suggest you try Star Wars Galaxies.  Open world, different races, pvp, and a free trial.  http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/players/index.vm

At least it's different than what you've tried before.

Wow.. you clearly look misinformed... the only thing guildwars 2 will relate to guildwars is the storyline... the skills / combat / whatever you saw in guild wars are all changed in guildwars 2... ( Except for some classes names and some skill names)

Let me list a couple things you should know about.

-No monthly fees (like the first gw)

-Free roaming world ( Only instanced zones would be dungeons and some other areas, but nothing too relevant)

-You'll be able to jump... swim..  (And perhaps climb trees, I read this somewhere, but not sure it's 100% legit)

-You'll have pvp in the world... however few details have been said..

If you need more clarification, and i'm sure you do... you can visit this url, it has links to every question you might have...

Yeah, maybe your right about guild wars 2.

I will give it a try when it comes out.

About star wars, I will leave that universe when the new star wars old republic mmo comes out and view what the players think about it and then see if I try that universe or not. I like star wars but kinda like a "I watched the six movies and I liked but I kinda was MILES away about the story. I understand the basic things, of course, but some of that politic mumbo-jumbo was tooo boring to even try and understand."

Yeah, I like lore but when it comes to "politic" lore of nations and little factions againts other factions for X and Y reason but then they got friends because of some other BIG BAD nation... it ain't my cup of tea.

I prefer the lore that says: These guys hate those because they stand for things they do not agree on... like Night Elves don't like Orcs because they cut their sacred forest... but orcs need resources but night elves consider the forest a sanctuary.... not because Night Elves had a Code 129, section B, paragraph 1 that says "thus you shall not be green and ugly" and orcs said "but we are a green nation and we have rights! Just because of that, I'm going to assault you with army of 300 brave men among the nation, some part of the Abrakadabra clan, misterious and dark green people... *falls asleep and 10 minutes later* .. oh and don't forget the Ninjutsu clan of monks, we got some of those. If you want peace, thus you shall offer a flower... not a red flower because according to section F, paragraph 9001, red is offensive. *falls asleep*"

Kinda like, lore, yeah, but not uninteristing political facts that no one gives a damm. Just simple things like "X doesn't like Y because they stole resources"... not because "X doesn't like Y because they stand againts Z and Z is a offense to our past emotions since Z had a affair with W and W is our God, since W made X and Y haves no god."

Anyway, where was I again? I think I just told useless stuff that is even confusing to me. I don't know why I typed that but I'm too lazy to re-think. I will just change the color to ignore it. If you want to take time, just select the text in white and read it.

I'm going to try Uncharted Waters Online and will update when I have a decent view on it.

Thank you all for your suport so far.

Yes and no. W2 will have a very specific area for that type of PvP called the mist. Basically will 3 servers connect to a huge area with a lot of places in like fotresses, mines and other places. There will be rewards for your entire server if you hold something.

But you can't go and gank some unsuspecting noob, anyone entering the mists will be aware that it is a PvP area.

There will also be arenas, minigames and the real PvP focus: Guild Vs Guild.

I <3 your style of typing!

I would recommend Darkfall for sure.

It is the best MMORPG of all time imo and there are no level limits so if you want someone to group with than feel free to give me a hollar!

(I also play GW on the side for occasional ego-repair since its so easy compared to Darkfall and there is no risk)

Guildwars is the most balanced game of all imo but Darkfall is cool because there are less limits and free to change your play-style at any time so you are never screwed by the 'flavor of the month' besides changing your build a little.

I would say stick with GW but play Darkfall for when you have a couple hours or more for a gaming session as it has a lot more emotions involved and much more of a second life compared to most games.
