I remeber when Richard first joined Ncsoft back when I was playing lin 1..I belive tat when Hiene castle was able to be sieged..he tried leading it and everyone ended up attacking him lol, Good time's.
He invented the MMORPG, we need him now to reinvent the industry (let's pretend Tabula Rasa never existed)
He didn't invented the MMORPG, he just made the first really famous MMORPG.
And there actually was UO2 - somewhere around the time when Anarchy Online was made. They even hit the alpha stage where they made screenshots of the actual world (and i saw those screenshots), but it never got to the release state due to lack of money after Ultima Ascension failure or something like that, don'y really remember now.
Actually, if I remember right, EA closed the Texas studio, and wanted everyone involved to re locate to their main office in California. Most of the staff, including the head Dev refused. That pretty much killed the game.
Now, I wonder how many commenters that actually read the article.
There is a reason why this isnt UO 2. (EA own that franchise) There was however an interview a while ago where he stated that this game would indeed by similiar to UO.
The reason for the borked name appears to be that it is a working title. Also note that this was a presentation meant for investors. Whatever helps him get the funds to create that game I say; it is not likely that the current name will stay anyway.
Not exactly a luminairy, more like Ultima fluked out (and made him a star) as the world had a void in online graphical gaming, since these were days of text based MUDs.
I played UO for 9 years from Renn. account still active I just dont play. I think a UO-2 would be great with a good enhine and player housing. I loved UO and would enjoy the same skill based type game in a nice 3d format. I dont even mind if theres a Trammel and felluca based lands. Care bears got to have a place to live too. hehe
TR has a lot of potential just... was to much "western" game and NC basically just fu**d up (read wiki timelines! before u say something). FallenEarth can live! no need 1billion easterns... NC was just damm wrong comp. to drive TR. (yeah.. i know.. money talks)

Talk about distortions... First, the game wouldn't have been nearly as expensive, if NCsoft hadn't demanded that it be changed so dramatically. At launch, it was VERY little like the orginal concept. Second, his brother was head of NCsoft *West* at the time. Anyone who has dealt with the Koreans in terms of business knows how that works out... Next, it was demonstrated in the American court, that NCsoft executives had been playing political games and had in fact forced the issue. It would also appear that they didn't really understand the difference between the two legal systems.
Finally, anyone who thinks that the entire Ultima *series* was a "fluke" or simply a matter of luck, or timing, clearly doesn't understand what is involved in game design. One game MAY be a "fluke"... But an entire series?... I'll always remember and respect RG for his Ultima series. For what its worth, I also quite enjoyed Tabula Rasa. It had some serious problems, but it could have been fixed, and I suspect it would have been, if it had been done by an Asian studio. Look at all of the games that NCsoft has axed. As far as I remember, they've all been by western groups.
I agree with Wraith, Tabula Rasa was not near the disaster some of you make it out to be. If anyone messed up it was NCSoft, they just don't get what works well here in the west as evidenced with Aion. From my point of view Tabula Rasa was a better game than Aion is today.
He still could have some good game left in him. You never know.

We all know his story thank you very much, and personally I don't care.
I was a fan of Lord British way before UO, in fact I owned all the Ultima series RPGs and together with Baldurs gate, The Elder Scrolls series, and Diablo, are my favourite RPGs
Even the most talented people gets it totally wrong from time to time.
I even want Brad Mcquaid to make another MMO too if that makes you feel better (please don't tell me how he fucked up with Vanguard, I know already)
honestly he should have stayed in space and kept us from more garbage and i agree with the vid card thing why would i shell out a ton of money for a card to give me faces that look like real life so i can waste it on crap like farmville or what basically boils down to a text based game like mafia wars or somethin if i wanted to play a text based game id dig up a copy of zork
and tr looked great and probably coulda changed the industry i never got to play which is a shame but from what i gather i saved alot of money steering clear and going for guild wars instead look at it this way one is dead the other has everyone waiting for the sequel nuff said

In its time, the most expensive MMO ever made, US$106,000,000 (Source: http://tobolds.blogspot.com/2008/02/tabula-rasa-financial-disaster.html ) , Tabula Rasa was this man's worst creation ever.
Not to mention that conveniently his brother Robert was the CEO of NCSoft at the time, which funded this entire financial disaster.
When he was "forced" to resign, he the had the audacity to SUE NCSoft for $24,000,000 for termination of his contract! ( Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabula_Rasa_(video_game) )

I guess I was the only one who thought TR was a good game with potential which sadly never came to fruitition
