Heres what i think may become a future problem for areananet to figure out.
No this is not a flame thread at infact I am really excited for guildwars2, but heres the possible problem. The PvP as most of you already know will be taking place in something called the mist, where it will be WvWvW. Now this all sounds good and dandy on paper but how do they plan on balancing this? What i mean by balancing is what if there are more players on one server then another? Could it possibly lead to that server winning the battle because of them having superior numbers?
I honestly do not really know how areananet will implement this maybe they will add in npcs to cover for the difference in amount of players. What're your guys thoughts?

It'll probably be instanced and the instancing will control the balance automatically. If it's not instanced, it could balance itself out if they offered +exp incentives for players to join low-pop servers.
In my opinion, the best way to handle it would be instancing, that way you could easily implement an automatic balance system.
They're not planning on balancing it. They said it's perfectly possible to have a fight with 30 people vs. 300.
A server with more, better players will kick the ass of a server with less players.
Luckily, there's two things that will help balance this.
One, since it's a three way fight, the two weaker servers will tend to team up to take on the more powerful server.
Secondly, they're supposed to mostly make servers matched up against servers of approximately equal strength. So it won't be such a big deal.
... but yeah, until they figure out which servers are better and which are worse, and unless there's some two on one teamwork going on, the lower population servers are probably going to get their butts kicked unles they step up their game.
The balance lies primarily in the 3 server match-up. If one server dominate the other two band togehter. But WvW if not meant to be balanced, Arenanet themselves have called it unbalanced pvp.
Guild Wars I already did balance control by actually allowing three parties in an alliance battle chosen at random. They later introduced updates to prevent most who hit the "Enter Mission" countdown simultaneously to get their guild to run under three teams of four.
In fact each Guild Wars PvP game had at least a balance on the number of participants per side.
I am sure ArenaNet itself will say "Its W vs W vs W" and of course, instanced PvP to prevent the top of one server from decimating another server outright.
There is one thing in common with GW 1 and 2.....
ArenaNet will have to play it by ear to see what will happen and really control the updating. GW I had classes broken and fixed plenty of times.
What I care about is not having to relearn how to play the game every six months from changes.....and its been occuring lately and has been pissing me off.
This ^^^^^^^ they have said it plenty of times WvWvW is ment to be unbalanced
Yeah, RvR or Server vs Server PvP should never be "balanced" in the sense of always equal numbers/gear, ect. Meowhead pretty well covered what they intend on doing.
Looking forward to more news about WvW.
The possible problem I see coming from that though is, one or two dominate servers left fighting each other, because everyone else gives up trying.

I thought that they will also be changing the servers that battle each other all the time. That will help out a little too I think.
Server pairings will change on a set schedule, so you won't always be up against the same servers.
During 1 WvWvW pairing it could very well come down to 1 server being completely dominated, or even 2, but that's the whole point. What's the fun if no one wins?
Then the next week that server that completely crushed the other 2 will go up against 2 other servers that completely crushed their competition in the previous week so they'll have quite a challenge on their hands then.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
Thanks all for clearing this up for me!
They are also allowing free server transfers so if your server always loses and you don't like it you can switch to a different server. I would guess part of the server matching will be based on populations playing in the mist so they try to keep it somewhat balanced anyway.
