For the First time in 6 years Blizzard is SCARED lol, they are trying to milk as much money as they can before they lose a major chunk of the player base to GW2 and SW:TOR lol
Yeah only having 11.4 million subs must mean the end is near for WoW.
WoW is past it's prime and is in the end of it's life cycle, where it will enjoy a gradual decline in subscriber base along with Blizzard scrambling to throw in more and more cash grabs into the game to try to milk as much profit from the game before it runs dry.
It may still take a decade or longer for interest in WoW to completely dry up, but WoW's subscriber base is starting to shrink, and the money counters are getting nervous. That's why they've not even tried to be subtle about their RMT lately.

So actually yes, it's the beginning of the end.
WoW could gradually loose subscribers and five years from now, it would still potentially retain more subscribers than any other MMORPG, and with Blizzard's new project in the works, I doubt they are terribly concerned.

That was my point and what you said is true all the way, Blizz is milking the cow dry before she dies.
I thought I was paying $15 for premium access now. I suppose my $15 is for a "less then premium" experience.
But really, what is the point of charging (aside from the obvious answer of 'greed'). If they are looking to ramp up RealID, you figure they would give people more incentives to use it. I mean making this available would go a long way toward making the service more attractive and not just somethign associated with the drama over showing real names in forums, But maybe most people who would use this weren't concerned, don't care, or already forgot about all that. It just seems short-sighted to saddle their "social platform" with added fee based services so early on. But then there are people paid more then I am to figure out how that company will make more money so I guess we'll see what happens.
Still, the leveling process has been drasticaly reduced over and over. Realm transfers exist as a one time fee. Faction transfers exist as a one time fee. I suppose this just seems redundant. With that in mind, it's not a service I would ever pay for, so in that respect, I suppose it will have no real impact on me except for removing some people from the regular Dungeon Finder queue. How long before they implement "Premium, Cross-Server Rated Battleground/Arena Teams"?

I never said WoW wouldn't still have a lot of people 5 years from now, but it will have noticeably less than it does now.
As for Blizzard not being concerned... well they're concerned enough to be more and more rapidly adding "premium services" and other RMT without even trying to be subtle about it. Likely to extend WoW's cash cow status until they can get their next cash cow out the door.

Most people still stay subed to WoW because it's what they know and there really isn't anything better out there right now other then nich games.
There will be 2 games that will grab over 5 million of WoW player base within the first year and that will be SW:TOR and GW2. most players will buy & play GW2 because its free and switch to SW:TOR for there p2p game because they are sick of WoW, SW:TOR will also have free advertisement from this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0458291/ to give the public Star Wars fever, what we will see in 2012 is a king being dethroned after 7 years in power.
If I'm wrong save this post and I will make a youtube video of me eating my shoe.
Blizzard has been pushing me into unsubscribing little by little with every premium and RMT feature they add to the game.
When they added the pet store I was sitting there thinking, "easy there chief, don't let this get out of hand." Sadly, Blizzard has gotten out of hand with the RMT portion of the game.
I have cancelled my subscription as of tonight. The game is extremely stagnate right now and its age is showing, sitting in Orgrimmar and never leaving was already bad enough. This was just the push that sent me to the other side. I only see this getting worse in the future as they continue to hemorrhage subscribers but still try to gain profits.
Originally posted by BlackWatch Sorry, but scratching my head at why this needs to be a premium, tbh.
If players can already send messages to players on other realms.... If you can queue for random dungeons and end up in a group with players from other realms.... Why can't Blizzard just allow players to go ahead and send a group invite to a player on other realms and manually queue for dungeons? Seems to me the technology is there, just needs to be tweeked.
Because Blizzard is getting greedy(er) and trying to leech money any way they can.
*WARNING TINFOIL HAT AREA* It's like when they "hack" accounts to sell authenticator keychains that could be given free as a download of a flash-based gadget or even embedded into the login screen. The technology is there, they just want to make a profit any way they can.
uggggg i hate when people say that this is ok b/c its a business and people are willing to pay for it. People already DO pay for it im so sick in tired of the buy game, buy expansion, pay monthly fee, cash shop, pay for all services, pay for everything that will enhance your experience. ffs im ready to leave this genre

With the continued popularity of the Dungeon Finder, many players have been asking for a way to group up with real-life friends who play on other realms to take on instances together. Today, we wanted to give you a heads up about a new feature currently in development that will allow players to invite Real ID friends of the same faction to a party regardless of the realm they play on, and then queue up for a 5-player regular or Heroic dungeon.
As this is a fairly complex service to develop, we don’t have a release date to share quite yet. It’s important to note that as with some of the other convenience- and connectivity-oriented features we offer, certain elements of the cross-realm Real ID party system will be premium-based, though only the player sending the invitations will need to have access to the premium service. We'll have more details to share with you as development progresses -- in the meantime, you may begin to see elements of the feature appear on the World of Warcraft PTR.
Just wondering, toss on your foil hats and then let me know...
As opposed to what?
WoW isn't a F2P game last I knew, and therfore it's baseline is a subscription. That's why people are concerned when they use a term like 'premium'.
Because that either means some marketers at Blizz are gits who think calling all players 'premium' for no good reason is neat or there's an extra service that will inevitably have a fee or other barrier to use beyond the subscription.
Pretty much by use of the word 'premium' they're defining that it's not part of the norm. If it's not part of the norm then it's not part of the normal sub.
And that means extra fee. Which is why people are getting fussy.
Seeing as I don't play I guess that doesn't matter to me.

Reading this information made me cancel my WoW account, I will not support Blizzard any longer, the game was fun, but enough's enough, I'll give my money to a company I feel deserves it.
I can understand why people are upset over "premium services" etc., from a p2p game...
but...
Blizzard's pay-for server transfers option will become almost null and void.
This is Blizzards way of trying to make their server transfer options still exist.
If playing with friends cross-server were "free", why pay for a server transfer?
That is not entirely true, some people change server because their server is becoming dead, or because all their friends are in a guild in an other one (so for more than just doing instanced stuff together). There will still be reasons, less yes, but still.

World OF Warcraft is now broken, if I want something even similar experience to wow but better I will go play rift, otherwise I am waiting for a new MMO Without Micro Transactions to play.
This is one of the reasons I quit wow besides the reason they just completely ruined the story line of world of warcraft, screwed up the class system the way we were all used to it with Cataclysm, and did major nerfs during Burning Crusade/Lich King.
I own 5 wow accounts, most with deleted characters, but will not be returning, it is the end of wow for me.
I Predict that wow will start to milk even more cows as they loose customers from all this they are getting desperate, but hey all the wow addicts out there I am sure will not mind forking out cash for Blizzard, but I am not one of those people who are going to pay for a game that now just totally sucks.
Dont get me wrong I Love MMORPG's, but I do not appricate game companies like NC Soft, Sony, and other companies that say it is Pay 2 Play, then add a bunch of Micro Transactions and paid features just to milk cows it is just too much not as if these companies are not rich enough already.
I hope that in the future NC Soft, Blizzard, and Sony Listen to its customers more about what they want, and make features part of the game for everyone instead of milking cows.
OMFG WTF is this shit, this is the path to the first day that a group of customers will sue an mmo for paying for the same content TWICE!! the fuck is wrong with companies?? you already have cross realm when doing dungeon finder..
COMPLEXITY OF THIS SERVICE......whaht the hell!!!!!!!! when its already there...
to think i considered resubbing until TOR AAARRRRRR THIS IS FUCKING ILLEGAL OR SHOULD BE!!!!
PAYING FOR THE SAME CONTENT TWICE!!!!!
ill bet my ass at some point they get sued and lose, what a fucking shame its the same company that makes diablo 3,
breaks my heart, not gonna touch that game now, sadly.

Or you get in for free and pay 3 euros per ride.
But with a themepark owned by ActivisionBlizzard you must pay 30 euros entrance fee, and 3 euros for a ride.
This is a slap in the face for the community that kept suggesting this feature should be implemented, for like 3 years now. And Blizzard just steals the idea and tries to make money from it instead. The worst part is that they are LYING to their costumers about the part that it's complex and needs money to develop. IT'S ALREADY IN THE GAME.

I r not liking this! If they want more money, why not raise the sub fee by $5 and be done with it
Hopefully people will cry about it and they will decide to make it available to everybody. God, I hate "premium" services.
