I use onlive not because my PC can't handle the games but because I don't feel like having 100's of GB being used up on games. I buy a game and instead of having to DL and install and waste hours I can play it right after I bought it.
Honestly only bad thing I have to say about it is sometimes the connection messes up but rarely.
People who have limited transfer rates imposed by their ISP.
People who dont have very fast connection.
People who already have a decent gaming platform.
People who are using satelite internet (Who still uses those though (>.<))
People who have bad latency/hiccuping net speed.
People who already have a working gaming computer.
I dont see why youre dismissing other peoples statements because they ARE correct on the technical aspects. I have borderlands and I recently tried it on On-Live and the difference was HUGE. I totally felt the delayand I noticed whenever my net would hiccup while playing. Maybe for games like Civilization and turn based games, it would be more bearable. But on FPS games, play on live and one thats saved right on your pc and youll definitely see and feel the difference.
No ones saying it doesnt work period. Theyre saying it doesnt work well enough. o.o If you play it and like it and its good enough for you then theres no problem o.o Thats you though not me xD

Im just sharing my enjoyment of this program and people have to come in talking about how "oh it cant work" and "it sucks" and all this really dumb crap when its completely free to check out for yourself. People can easily go sign up and check it out without all this negative nonsense that simply isnt true.
No it doesnt work for everybody, yes you need a good internet connection, whatever just try it is all im saying. I think its incredible and im clearly not the only one.

Lots of great things have been happening for OnLive and a recent update allows even more players to be able to connect.
If you were unable to connect before or had a lot of network problems its quite possible your experience would be better now, and you should be able to connect from practically anywhere.
Theres been quite a lot of updates since i last posted but since there are so many naysaying tards i didnt care to post.
Today is Uber Tuesday tho (they start early for some reason), OnLive now has Dirt 3, Witcher in the playpack (incredible) and Tomb Raider Guardian of Light my personal favorite tomb raider ever.

Another awesome labor day sale is live on the system, i cant believe its been a year since i joined. The last labor day sale is basically the reason i fell in love with OnLive and have been using it since.
Remember you can demo almost every game, its free to sign up for, very tiny download (less than 7mb) see how your connection is with OnLive to check the performance.
Its not the best for everyone but its constantly improving.

Go check it out. Its really simple, shouldnt take more than a minute to register and get the program up. I really cant put into words how much its worth just seeing.
I havent tried the demo myself yet of this particular game and i totally agree with you, but for the time being 30 minutes is a pretty normal and average time to demo a game for free. Its not even released yet ya know?
Ive demo'd a few games and sometimes it does feel like 30 minutes went by too fast but thats really mostly just because i was having so much fun and enjoying it.
ya onlive, go onlive, all the way! woot!
I used to be like you and told everyone about onlive I could, cept after following it for like year and half and playing it some, I found out after so long that my directinput controler wouldnt work for it, I was flamin pissed so I stoped using it entirely and shunned it never to be spoken of again. Now I see the error in my ways as most of the games nowadays use xImput so I guess it wasnt even there fault really.
The only thing I do not like when thinking about these types of services, is what do you do if it goes down? or for example gets hacked into (like PSN did this year)?
Probably won't be able to anything at all for x ammount of time, and since you don't physically own any of the games/movie/etc, the one thing you do physically own and paid for just becomes a paperweight.
I have no doubt the distributing of media will be completly reliant on something similar to this in the future, just can't say i'm looking forward to that day though.
Update: I know its soon after my last post but this is a new promo they did.

As far as the service going down it would be the same for any game. WoW has downtime every single tuesday and its not the only game that does that.
You just have to play something else. =p

I like OnLive's PlayPack service, it really is a great deal. As far as image quality and lag goes... I have had both and usually at the same time, but then it goes away and I believe it is because of dips in my internet connection because some nights it plays flawlessly...
OnLive isn't perfect but it is certainly better than the "theorists" think it could possibly be. Just take 15 minutes to try it, OK? Unfortunately, the people that assume that OnLive is pure quality becuase of their theories about how the service works are completely underestimating OnLive. Just try it out!

I tried OnLive. The picture was god awful in my opinion (Internet connection is fine). It has potentional to be great in the future but not right now.
Also it never feels right to me because I never feel like I actually own anything, like with downloadable music or games, I much prefer having it physical.
I like the idea of the service, but as someone with a top of the line pc and a 35/35 mbs fiber optic internet it just doesnt perform to an acceptable level.
Yes its the pc snob in me that doesnt like it. For instance tonight I was trying out orcs must die, which I ended up buying on Steam but I just couldnt handle the delay on Onlive. I would assume for most people the delay wont be an issue, and its probably very similar to HD snobs arguing about the difference between component cables and HDMI feed but it still drives me nuts.
I really want to like the service because I think cloud computing is absolutely awesome and any service that can help me never have to go to a gamestop again is definitely a plus in my book. That being said for me personally I just cant see myself paying money to use their service in its current implementation.
Looks like MMORPG.com is missing out on some add revenue. I urge anyone with any doubts that this guys a shill, go back and look at the whole thread. Look at the issues with service that Quiz brought up. Then see the responses.
Service is a scam that's all there is to it. I really hate people who buy into crap like this. It encourages these scam artists to keep coming up with crap like this. While I have no doubt eventually something like cloud computing maybe a reality for games. This service isn't that. There's no way in hell this service delivers better than a $600 pc. No way.. For all the reasons already covered by Quiz. earlier in the thread. If someone can afford Internet service and is able to buy pc games regularly, Then they can afford a PC able to play those games on.

They are removing the ownership, forcing you to rent the games with higher fees than usual rental costs or second hand market.
Totally depandant on the company with its pricings and marketing, besides you pay for a monthly flat for games you dont need or want. How do you install community modifications for the games, individual UI, patches you want to install or try to avoid....what about privacy, ppl already moan about DRM or origin.
This is a terrible business concept for consumer, just a clever business concept for investors and the company. The best business concepts are those where you make people totally depandant on your concept, its like the coffee pads or other things.

Can Onlive do things on tablets and cell phones that you can't do any other way on those devices? Sure. Whether they're worth doing is a different matter, but let's assume for the sake of argument that they are. But I sure hope you have an awfully generous data plan for that tablet or cell phone, as it's not going to take long to hit a monthly cap of 2 GB or so.
And in the tablet world, Onlive's advantage may well be fleeting. Wichita/Krishna is reportedly cancelled, so Hondo presumably is as well. But as soon as the successor parts come along and get stuck into Windows 8 tablets, you'll be able to run an awful lot of PC games natively on a tablet, without any need for Onlive. Remember that you don't need max settings, or even moderately high settings, to handily beat Onlive for image quality and responsiveness.
Now, getting that kind of performance in cell phones is still a long, long way off. But that still goes to the question of how much data you can send, and whether it's worth playing games designed for a PC in a cell phone form factor, rather than games actually designed to be playable on a cell phone.
