Whine, whine, whine.  God this is almost as bad as the fanboys whining about the new X-Com game.

In any case, sounds cool.  This still might be the game that finally ropes me into MMOs.

I hope I am selected for beta testing! My hype level for this game is very low though.

Well, I mean, with everything said, this IS BioWare's very first MMO isn't it? I think they're trying to be innovative and a little simplistic on idea right now just to see how it works. A failure at launch would be devestating, especially after all the money they put into it. And if we know Bioware, there will be plenty of DLC/Expansions, not to mention patches to fix it later. And Bioware seems to be on par with reacting to the forums. Remember 3 years ago when the lightsabers were kinda fat? Remember Jedi Wizard? Bioware fixed those up quickly. Plus, They are even planning to implement multiplayer space battles after the launch. I just want a release date set in stone. Or at least an Open Beta. Id pay to play early at this point.

This game is going to have to be spectacular to make up for the corny cartoon graphics.

I think this game is going to do many things well.  My fear though, given that there are only two factions, is that there'll be rampant imbalance on the servers.  Great for the overpopulated guys, crappy for those that are getting trounced in world PvP.

Well that would require both a base class switch and a faction change.

    My guess is no.  :P

Some of us like doing exactly that.  What we don't like is when the raiding becomes totally unchallenging.

And I don't know about 'stupidly long levelling'- we really have no idea how long it'll take to get from 1-50, but it seems from what's been released so far that 1-10 is 'a few hours'

Also, forcing players to take a signifigant time to level is a good thing- that's how you learn to use the abilities of your class.  Too many players arrive at level cap without even a base understanding of their class mechanics.

As someone who enjoyed the original SWG, I find this game absolutely horrible.  It feels exactly like the NGE with the team selling out on origionality to make a game just like every other one out there.  Having a class that splits into 2 advanced classes is not new....in fact it has is pretty much been in every single free to play MMORPG for years.  I was astonished that the makers of SWG would go from a huge amount of versatile class with multiple playstyles to just a few pathetic classes that you can only play on one faction.  I especially like how the jedi and sith both learn the same exact fighting stances...yeah thats real original.  In the end the only thing that I feel will make or break this game is ironically the solo style story action.  It obviously won't be as nice as awesome fighting, but if its done right, engaging enough, and has enough variety it can definitely keep the game fresh and exciting for a lot of people.  Not for me of course, but for others

We all loved swg pre cu/nge, but lets burry that old song, swg isn't comming back like it was, and no other games will be developed that looks & feels like it.

I look forward to TOR, its going to be a Star Wars game afterall, and if pulled off right it could reach epic proportions. I think BW is on the right track, but I for one would love for them to think outside of the box and implement things like a:

Non combat class like entertainers/politicians/bartenders/crafters etc.

A bounty system available for all who wants to play as either the hunter or the hunted (opened for all classes to compete in, would really open up the open world pvp scenario) Lets face it some of the biggest moments in swg came from going toe to toe with the opposition due to a bh killing a jedi etc. etc. or a base haveing been attacked. It was great fun and what really kept swg going.

Player or GM driven content, why no mmo have put this on top of their list well never know, but it seems so easy to do and implement that its silly not haveing it. Player driven content or atleast happenings would lift any game up heights where no mmo has been since swg. Hell It could be a simple thing like an invasion on a planet that has opened up to a guild after them haveing done a certain content, its then up to the opposite faction to defend or push back the invasion. Succeed and they get rewarded, fail and the other faction gets a reward.

The list goes on and on, about how a company could distinguish them selves from the pack and create an mmo that breaks the mold enough to set the standards for future mmo's.

Cool so what I got out of this was,

Same classes on each side with different names.

Different resource systems but basically the exact same concept for each side.

Same dull and boring point, click, auto attack combat.

The only thing I wish they had done was release a skill tree so we can see really how customizable our playstyle is. All these games say "Yea you can totally customize your playstyle" but all they offer are 2-3 skill trees and you end up with only one viable spec within that subclass (don't even try to argue this because it's so true).

WoW did the same thing where they said you'd have to make hard choices for your spec and you'd be able to customize your playstyle a bit but that never happened. PvE was always one superior spec and PvP was always one superior spec. I wish game developers would look a little more into truly customizing playstyle rather than just making these talent trees which we all know will lead to one spec for each advanced class.

I wish Bioware hadn't taken on this project with such a terrible company behind them (EA Mythic). This game is going to make Bioware look bad when really the flaws lie within Mythic.

So if i got this straight, Jedi/Sith who use 2 sabers deals more damage than a Jedi/Sith using 1 Saber... If that's the truth it sucks balls.

  • whilanwhilan Member UncommonPosts: 3,472

Planbee. There is no auto attack in game.

I'm not sure myself how much different each class will be, but here is the build list.  Wheter each of these builds will be vialbe I don't know.  Something you can really only find out in the actual gameplay:

Jedi Knight - Melee DPS or Tank

Jedi Consular - Burst Melee DPS, Ranged DPS,Tank or Healer

Smuggler - Ranged DPS, Burst Ranged DPS or Healer

Trooper - Ranged DPS, Ranged Tank or Healer

Sith Warrior - Melee DPS or Tank

Sith Inquisitor - Burst Melee DPS, Ranged DPS,Tank or Healer

Imperial Agent - Ranged DPS, Burst Ranged DPS or Healer

Bounty Hunter - Ranged DPS, Ranged Tank or Healer

I'm gathering based on your advance tree and the skills you set up you can be any of those llisted in that list there.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

the knight(guardian AC) and warrior(juggernaut) both have a tree to skill for single saber dps.  will the sentinel/Marauder ACs do more damage since they are purely dps ACs we don't know.  all we can go on currently is what the devs have said.

Every other Advanced Class seems to have two distinct roles that could easily correspond to two skill trees, but the four listed above seem to only have one role.

Do these four ACs only have potential for the one combat role? If so, I am curious as to how their skill trees will be divided.

Thank you for today's blog and your continued forum comments Georg!

I've seen this question a few times now, so I'll try to explain.

First - we are not under any illusion that there will be parity in class distribution. There will be more Jedi Knights than Smugglers and there will always be more Sith Warriors than Agents. That is fine - we designed the game with that in mind. Certain fantasies are more popular than others after all.

There is a good number of people that only ever play damage dealing classes. Regardless of what choice you give them, when it comes to the core role of it, they want to go in there and make a difference with damage.

By having some Advanced Classes dedicated to pure damage, we are creating options for these players to experience different gameplay variations of damage dealing gameplay and mechanics within their class.

The Marauder / Sentinel skill trees allow for some great variation in gameplay (tactical vs. in your face, burst vs. sustained, different levels of mobility, Area of Effect vs single target) to give players that have a strong preference for the damage dealer role more variation that what is possible on ACs that fill multiple roles already.

So we really don't look at this as 'The Marauder only has one role available, therefore it must be significantly better at it than other ACs that have a DPS option', we look at this as 'The Marauder has one role available to it, and several very different (and full) ways of putting it to effect'. Plus, you get to wield dual blades - I hear some players really like that too.

I think many of you who have become burnt out on Wow will initially enjoy this game, but will come to find out it just Wow in another flavor and the initial joy will soon turn to bordom.

Class/level design is a lazy one that offers very little replayability.  You would think that Bioware would be smart enough to realize such.

It will get big numbers when it releases, but don't expect that to last very long, they don't have the built up content that Wow has..

Am I the only one who thinks "DUH" when i see "tank" "dps" and wtf stances, man, Bioware seems to go that way (for peeps who are testin' the beta right now, by doing like a holy trinity "Tank / Heal / DPS" based game.

THIS AIN'T WOW man it's STAR WARS !!! Vader ain't stoppin' in the middle of a fight to say "oh hold on man, imma gonna switch to dps", this just doesn't make any sense at all in the STAR WARS universe !!! Bioware wanna do a tank / dps stuff, then do it in the Dragon Age world.

Jesus, SWG had many flaws but at least it wasn't like that AT ALL.

You would think that Bioware, being Bioware, would get a little bit creative and come with something interesting and innovating ? Nope, it's just : Instances, Instances, Instances, oh hold on my jedi's DPS and da Bounty Hunter's tankin' (yeah right, like bobba would take blaster shots instead of someone else).

This' killin' Star Wars spirit :(

I can't wait for this game been following it since like 05/06 when it was first a rumor. Still the classes look sick, and it is so awesome how people can judge a game based on articles, and you can find something bad in anything if you try hard enough. And don't say some bs that you can see it blah blah blah, I've followed this game everystep of the way, and I know it isn't garbage just don't play the game or even bother with if you feel strongly against it, and stop ruining the game forever one else, misery loves company but damn.

Yeah, I loved this update, going Immortal sith Jugernaut!

  • the article got me pumped up, but  not too much was new.  I do have the feeling that it will be best to stay off some of the support classes til later such as smuggler and imperial agent.  I think those classes at launch will probably be gimp relative to the basic jedi and sith, then be reconfigured.  They will definitely NOT be op.. food for thought
