As E3 2011 kicks into high gear, MMORPG.com Community Manager Mike Bitton takes a look at things that have been revealed about Star Wars: The Old Republic over the last week or so. Hopefully, the discussion at E3 will center around some of those topics and help fans gain new insight. Check out Mike's thoughts about SWTOR and E3. Let us know what you think when you're finished.
So, what do we know so far? Last week, BioWare gave us a fairly sizable taste of what sorts of abilities players can expect to use across all of the game’s Advanced Classes, and this was expanded upon even further right here at MMORPG.com in an exclusive interview with SWTOR Lead Combat Designer Georg Zoeller. Additionally, BioWare also dropped a new Star Wars: The Old Republic “Features” trailer along with an interview over at GameSpot that revealed most of their plans for E3.

I'm hoping the multiplayer lasers to ships battles onboard ships(as depicted in the trailer) will be a possibility...
yesterday we learned small raid size will be 8 and large raid size is still in flux due to testing
Bring back 40 mans! Oh wait wrong game! I'm very much hyped now this is starting to look better and better!

What we know:
4 Man group max. - "find groups faster"
Areas instanced. - "Don't have to wait for boss to spawn"
The environment looks lackluster and is an embarrassment for a new MMO.

"What are you disappointed we won’t be hearing about at the show?"
That the ghost of Uncle Owen didn't show up and give Gerog Zoller the old "Archie Slap"
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "
They'd better show us that operation gameplay instead of another tease with a trailer. Take away those trailers and give us actual exciting end game gameplay!! Not counting CGIs those are just epic.
"To be a rock and not to roll..."
Mission areas are instanced world area's arn't, they showed tattooine, and a dungeon on alderan it's a freakin desert and a group dungeon expect it to be a bit empty. Go watch the opperations trailer if you want to see more stuff. They cut down agro range and mob number to show off the game a bit better. As well that video is based off the ranged dps guy so your missing a bit more of the action in the fight.
Go to darth hater they have the opperation video there.
Lastly they have said that the graphics are turned as low as they can got because of the lack of bandwidth on the showroom floor in all the other demos I've seen. So I am wondering if this one was turned down as well.
Btw, what I have witnessed so far has been ALL about republic side of gameplay which Im not even interested in but also looks really empty like IceNeko mentioned. You got booring Tatooine, that video, its bright and empty. If I get into this, I wont even think about Republic. That said, they didnt even show sith gameplay AT ALL. Give me end game Imperial side gameplay. Or at least lvl 25-30...
"To be a rock and not to roll..."
BTW, I realize there have been a lot of developments since this article was written, such is the way of lightning-fast E3.
@gaou: Woot I'm 1 for 2 so far then. There better be cookies for me if the large raid size is 16!
The graphics was turned down for the demo.
I am burnt on the hype, burnt on the bread crumbs and burnt on waiting, and i am tired of waiting for the most expensive mmo game ever made... lets play the game no more talk, no more chatter about how great this or that is let's play the game... cuz all i hear from Bioware is blah blah blah it will never be done!!!! Step up! Get it fired up! Less talk more action! BAH!!!

if you dont like it dont buy it i am sure others like it :P.
.....
You're probably NOT going to get to corner Satele, at least not without having her get away mostly unharmed, seeing as she's currently the Grand Master of the Jedi Order. It'd be like being able to hunt down Yoda and butcher him in SWG... they're not quite going to let players do that, though you might be present when, say, the Emperor of the Sith has a confrontation with her.
And yes, from what I understand, the graphics on that Tatooine demo were not only at their lowest setting, but we were watching it over a throttled internet connection, That wasn't HD, that wasn't even SD. Bioware only had access to the same web connection every other E3 presenter and guest was using.
And even so, I thought Tatooine looked gorgeous, iconic, and even barren. Exactly what I'd want a desert planet to look like. Sparse, widespread areas of nearly nothing, with scattered concentration points. Think of the movies, what exactly was in visual range of the Lars homestead?
Instanced areas? awww!
I was hoping the game would be open world!
this news just ruinned my day

I do like the 4 man group. I don't like that you still need a tank and healer to do any content.
I like instances. As an EQ vet, I can appreciate what instances bring, and I think too many people are too nostalgic to remember the petty fights or they are just BSing and have never played a game were every single spawn is contested.
I agree the enviroment looked dated.
The gameplay did not seem exciting.
well to a certain extent companions can help with the looking for tank/healer. they wont be as good as a player obviously but it still atleast leaves you options. however they won't be available in raids or warzones, and they take up a party slot when in the open world doing flashpoints
I do like the idea of being able to use a companion as a tank and healer They've said it won't be as good as having a real player, but I think it will be a nice change.
If it's not a release date, I don't care anymore. I can only take so much hype. I'll find all of this out when I play the freakin' game.
I'm disappointed that at such an important event such as E3, they don't have the proper technology in place to properly show case a title on max settings just like any other game not requiring an internet connection. My tounge dropped out of my mouth after watching Skyrim. It's such bad publicity.
There Is Always Hope!
I got very excited about SWTOR when I "found" it but I grow tired of waiting quite soon. I am sure I will get the game when it launches but kinda too long wait for me .
Anyways, these (stunningly awesome) videos always remind me from very ancient times, some decades ago when I was coding MUD's . I wanted to get rid of the same "spell/skill hits u and u lose HP until you die" -cycle and change combat to "one hit kills". Idea at that point was that attacks eat up stamina and when it runs out change for hit increase close to 100%, then it was just creating beautiful descriptions for close-by evasions, dodges and blocks. Videos like these always remind me how cool it would be if combat would be more about wearing enemy down instead of beating his/her health pool nick by nick *sigh* but I guess there eventually comes reveluation on that one as well . Never got it coded ready on MUD either though =p.
I really love the story line stuff, making playing several chars more interesting. What worries me is how that is going to fit in the end game. or is it thrown out of the window when it comes to end game and go back to more traditional raiding? Hopefully not hoping them having something juicy for there as well.
Other than that I have really liked the idea of having a ship-crew and companions in order to achieve so much, fight alongside you and gather do intel and craft stuff - really nice idea. Rocking my boat to get to choose NPC's for my boat .
Also pretty thrilled about exploration idea they are having since not so huge fan of PVP.
interesting to see how this game will turn to be
We learned that some people have no idea how badly streaming affects graphical quality and cant understand "We turned the graphics right down and the internet connection at E3 is pretty clogged so the quality is much poorer than the real t hing".
Still desperate haters need something to cling to, personally cant wait, loved that Tatooine felt like a vast arid expanse rather than a tiny bit of sand.
I would hardly call it lack luster as another poster did, even before the posters said that the graphics were turned down because of the limits on the game floor it is pretty obvious it is a picture of a picture not a direct connection to the game it self and as such will degrade that is pc 101 there.
Tat big and mostly empty ..... and your suprised ? ever been in a desert ? there is a reason why desert and deserted look a lot alike but, that would require to much logical thought I suppose. SWG had things in the desert and a lot of them and most would agree that SOE generally did things wrong and is not a good referance point.
I also am chomping at the bit to play this game and each time I see no release date info I am a little sad but, I much rather they take the time to make it a well played game and good looking one then rush it out, half you folks complaining about the release date are the same ones that will whine and cry about how things don't work if they rush it, I am glad to see they are waiting till they fell it is right and NOT listing to the whiners. I hope that attitude persist into live, whiners ruined SWG hopefully good game play will take priority over whiners in this mmo.
